I have found out there is a person we know who sells pills to people. I think it's my duty to say something to our police dept. to get him out of town.
I don't know if I'll get myself in trouble (I've never been in trouble with the law...my biggest addiction is Disney:D ).
I just wanted to tell them his name and where he lives.

Do I have to tell them what I know and how I know, aside from he sells these pills?

I was hoping the police could take it from there, and I could go about my merry life.
Or should I just Mind My Own Business?

Any advice?

They'll want more information from you. People make allegations all of the time...they will ask you questions to ensure this isn't a personal vendetta of some sort.

What kind of pills and who does he sell them to? I think that makes a big difference.

How would you get yourself into trouble?

Well - Yes, No, Maybe.

Some communities do have anonymous tip lines that you can just call and leave the details of what you know. They will then try to investigate and gather enough proof of illegal activity on their own.

Otherwise I agree with Jules. What kind of pills? Is he selling to minors? Is there the chance that you think he will sell to minors in the future? Could you live with yourself if somebody innocent - like a minor child - died from his actions?

I think that you're going to have to think this over long and hard and decide how you feel about it. I don't think anybody can make the decision for you.

no advice, but good luck with making your decision. :)

If you are not buying the pills then really your information is second hand. So unless you were standing there as the transaction was going down them perhaps your "information" could be seen as "false accusations". You may be getting yourself into trouble. Just a thought...
If it ends up being true then I sure your participation will be necessary, I would think.
I don't know the right answer for you but those are things to think about.

You could send an anonymous letter to the department, don't sign it and don't put a return address on it. At least you would have tipped them off to possible illegal activity. Investigating it is the biggest part of finding out if they should be taken care of. I would let them know!

In this time we all have to be ACTIVE in preventing wrongs from happening. I am never quiet about telling things I KNOW to be true. If it is a suspicion, keep quiet, but if you KNOW it to be true...Tell and tell how and why you know also.

I definately know that this is going on, but I don't want to get involved because I think that it is BIG trouble...if you know what I mean.
Retaliation is what I would worry about, if I had to testify in court or if my name was somehow mentioned then I'm sure my peaceful family would pay for it.
I'm not the kind of person who looks for trouble, but when it is presented right in front of me, by accident, it's hard to ignore.

I haven't cried in a long time, maybe since my baby sis died last year, but this is getting to me.

{{{{{HUGS}}}}} and prayers in making a wise decision.

Lynn, just call and tell them what you know and that you don't want to be involved further. The worst thing that could happen is that the police don't investigate fully based on lack of additional information. You, however, will have it off your conscience.

What kind of pills and who does he sell them to? I think that makes a big difference.

That makes no difference! Who knows where the drugs go from there or how they effect the person who took them. Its like driving drunk....so maybe the person that is drunk isnt hurt but that doesnt make the dead bystander's family any happier.

The best thing you can do is open up a word document and type up all the information you have to support your accusation. Leave it for an hour or so and come back and add anything you may have forgotten. Times and locations are very important. Then print it out....if you personally know a police officer hand it over to them and ask to stay out of it. If you want to remain totally out of it then mail it from the post office to the police department with an Attn line for the drug taskforce. My county puts an ad in the newspaper every few months giving a phone number and an address to report drug dealers.

Good luck, Lynn.

... and, hugs. I know this is hard.

CajunDixie- that was my thought exactly. What difference does it make what kind of drugs and to whom they are being sold.

They are hard, illegal drugs and he sells them to whoever wants to pay for them. I'm not talking about junkies, I'm talking about your average kids and adults buying these things.

I do know a couple of police officers personally (one is a youth officer who handles these types of situations) I was thinking of asking one of them. I just wanted to know if I was going to have to disrupt my life if I did say something.

My DS15 knows about this and he thinks I should say something.
