Serious question on a sensitive topic...you know who I am

The southern baptists boycotted the fact that Disney allowed this to take place in their parks... Their stance was that turning a blind eye was the same as condoning it.

Not my opinion, just telling you why they SB's boycotted.

That wasn't a fun time to work for disney...had people coming into our store screaming about how evil disney was and such.

Don't know if that boycott is still in effect or not.

No, I think I read somewhere that the Southern Baptist convention "quietly"
ended their boycott, since it wasn't effective anyway. :)

I never had anyone screaming at me during my stint at The Disney Store.
Ack!

I wonder how many "boyfriends" are actually girlfriends and visa versa, we all know how to make boy/girl mules.....

I have a very cute boy mule that other boys try to pick up all the time. I just say "No thanks".

I have to agree with the others- if VMK is allowing all the bf/gf business the ban was for revealing the age not anything else.

Frankly I wish they'd lighten up on the age thing- and stop all the bf/gf mess- the other day one of the popular rooms had a description about- "come here to find a boy or a girl and to make out" I thought that was a bit much for a game created for 8-14yos...

And about the "adult" rooms- what would stop the kids from creating a new character that was older with an email adress- and then boom they are an adult in the eyes of VMK- I know before my kids turned the magic internet age of 13 I had assisted them in creating email addresses- at the time of my oldest's now 17 all I had to do was create the adress and then aprove it as a parent. But for dd I had to adjust the year of her birth a bit. Now at 13 they are "adults" in the internet world and can create their own email adresses- so they can really make themselves what they want- as a parent though I don't rely on the protections of other sites to make sure my kids stay safe- our computers are in public area of the home and can be viewed easily- do I know that my kids have email adresses I don't know about- you betcha they do- but I do talk to them about things and they are open with me about situations they are uncomfortable with... so that is a good thing.

SO I suppose as much as I'd like a little more leniency in the dictionary I know that they have it there for a reason- but I also know they need to work on their banning and warnings- to make them more specific. There should be no question as to why you were banned- it should be spelled out- you broke this rule and so you are banned for 2 hours... I've mentioned before though that my dh got a warning for saying something about kissing and he hadn't been talking at all in the room he was in- no one else mentioned a warning so I doubt they just sent it to all- but I do believe they may have sent it to the wrong account.

And while we are talking I think the mummy/daddy/baby thing is just odd- worse than the bf/gf thing sometimes...

Oh- and Mia- no problems here- lots of friends of all orientations-

also, just thought i would add my 2 cents on the boycott issue. being a Christian, i accept anyone, even those who believe differently then i regardless of personal opinions. that boycott was extraordinarily dumb, come on, boycott disney because people you dont agree with go there en masse 2 days a year?

Ok, Changed my mind- a bit. I now see VMK as something like Halloween. On Halloween, you get to be anything, the point of costumes are to be something that you are normally not. So, its a virtual world on VMK. You can do anything, and should be able to. As safe as VMK is now, actually to make it safer they should let you tell your age, as a part of safety so you know the age of your friends and what to/not to say. As long as the day care, "mer" thing doesn't get out of hand, I guess its ok. And, what is the point of a taken thing if your probably not going to meet them anyway? So, VMK is fine the way it is, staff just need to keep a close eye on some ppl...

(P.S. I am a Christian too and I agree 100% with DarkSideMoon, they boycott was stupid...)

Well as Christian and a Southern Baptist, I never had a problem with Disney extending the same benefits to their gay employees that they gave to their heterosexual employees. As a matter of fact, the only thing I disagreed with them on at the time was that they were hiring (or were going to) someone to make some of their movies who had been making porn. Definitely not cool for a family related company. I believe what the Bible says about sins, homosexuality isn't the only one mentioned, though. On a personal basis, I pretty much figure it isn't my problem. I'll work on my sins as I go.:)
However, I'm not going to slam someone about their sexuality. I have other things to worry about. And, the ones on this board that are well known seem to be just as nice and friendly as anyone else. I also work in a neighborhood where a lot of the gay population lives and/or works in our town. After awhile you know who is in what kind of relationship (nothing like a little neighborhood nosiness):), but you don't spend time thinking about it!Sheesh! And, most of the customers I work with are very nice people. I have a few who are problems, but they are found all across the board so to speak and come from all lifestyles and colors. No biggie!

Thanks for everyone's postitive responses on this. And just so we are clear, it was actually my friend and not "me" who was banned...hehe. She said VMK sucks ands is not coming back anymore. I tried to get her back based on the fact that she was probably banned for asking if she was a kid or not....("well that is stupid....I wanted to make sure I was not 'hooking up' with an 8 year old.."), well whatever. I don't think it was her thing anyway. I'm still playin' :)
