Serious Question abt a Kerry bumper sticker

First, a little background. I am currently living in Colorado, but getting ready to re-locate to Orlando. I am a Kerry supporter and have a Kerry for President bumper sticker on my car. Here in Colorado (uber-conservative) it has caused me no end of hassles. I get yelled at by other motorists, my car has been spit on and some very lovely boys in a white Ford truck with Texas plates thought it was funny to play like they were going to rear end me at a red light (with my son in the car) while yelling "Bush Rules!"

Ok, so my question is: Should I remove the sticker for my road trip from Colorado to Florida? Is my situation unique to the area I currently live in or can I expect it as I travel across the nation?

Wow. I don't support Kerry but WOW. I would never behave the way those morons are treating you.

I say leave it on your car. It is your opinion, and your freedom to support anyone you want and if others don't like it too bad. And if they need to behave like 3 year olds over it, that is just pathtic of them.!

The attitude among some against anyone who dares voice an opinion is really scary these days.

Of course, it has to be your call, but personally I'd do my best to never let anyone intimidate or threaten me because I expressed a political view.

Given your experience though, I'd keep a cell phone handy and call the police at the first sign of being harasssed.

I don't support Kerry either, but I would NEVER do such a thing! Leave that bumper sticker on your car! This is America and you can support whoever the heck you want to support!

Yes and take down license plate #s. If it's any comfort, I've been getting signs of support from my "Fermez la Bush" bumper sticker.

I'm far from a Kerry supporter but such behavior is completely unacceptable and certainly not indicative of the country, I don't think.

I wouldn't remove the bumper sticker.

I wish I could say I was surprised, but I'm not. When you're constantly told that disagreement with "your" president is the same as agreement and support of the terrorists, what do you expect the ignorant to latch on to ?

Kinda like this guy who was protesting the anti-war protesters, you aren't exactly dealing with the cream of the crop in the people harassing you, ya' know :teeth:

I might roll my eyes at a few political or religious bumper stickers, but I would never EVER say something to the person driving the car.

I can't imagine something like that happening...I guess I live in a pretty sheltered little world over here.

Florida is a "swing state" and in fact voted Dem in the last presidential election. You are going to at least have just over half of the people there agreeing with you (although it depends on what neighborhood you move into, I guess).

If you get that kind of behavior as you travel, they aren't even acting civilized. There are many correlations between Bush Republicans and the Nazi party, and riling up a bunch of violent idiots to terrorize the opposition is just the latest example. This is not an invitation to debate; it's just a fact. I feel so sorry for you that you are going through it. Maybe you could ask your elected officials for advice on how to deal with thugs?

BTW, thanks for warning me; I'll never consider moving to Colorado!

I think you'd better check that vote count again. :rotfl:

Am I the only one that sees the irony in this statement? Someone that is comparing Republicans to Nazis is complaining about riling up the opposition?

To the OP, of course you should leave your bumper sticker on - as someone else said, just keep a cell phone handy in case there is harassment (not to include, IMO, someone yelling at you - that's simply free speech).

Wow... talk about uncivilized.

Wow that is interesting. I would never think of Colorado as "uber-conservative." I always picture it as crunchy, granola, ski-bum like:) Hehehe. Come through Mass or NY and you should be A-ok all I am seeing are Kerry bumper stickers, pins, etc.. My friend was in the Hamptons last weekend and said every other car has a Kerry bumber sticker.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe that people would do that! I always assumed that Colorado was a liberal state.

I would keep it on too, but I still can't believe that there are so many jerks out there!:(

Well, I'll be the voice of dissent, but I have to say I'd take it off. Yes, this is a free country and as you can see, people can say anything they want. Why do anything that could create a problem? Should it? Absolutely not, but I'd rather not worry about my personal safety and the safety of my family just to advertise who gets my vote. I don't see the point in most bumper stickers anyway but that's another topic, lol.

Sadly, I would remove the bumper sticker for the drive across country and reassess the situation when you arrive at your destination. You have an obligation to your child to make sure, to the best of your ability, that he or she is in a safe environment. You are aware that it has already put your child in danger and it is now foreseeable that you both could be in danger again, therefore should be removed. When you are traveling there enough safety precautions you need to take. Why invite trouble?

And yes, it sickens me that our country has come to this.

Prayers for a safe journey.

OK, so what does "fermez" mean? It's French right? So, it must be something clever.

If I recall correctly, fermez la bouche = close your mouth or something to that effect

It means close in French. I am guessing it is a play on "close your mouth." :p
