Marathon Weekend 2027

DW mentioned that maybe we should do the marathon again "next year" so I'm taking that as an instruction to register...

She was looking at which DVC resort we should book.

ETA: She doesn't run. She's saying "we" should do the marathon as in I should do it and she and the kids should go to the parks... just so we're all on the same page. DS8 is full invested.

Have I spent time on my run yesterday thinking bout running the marathon in 27 figuring it might help me with my BQ goal (see 2026 Running Thread goal) Have I spent time this morning looking at DVC rental scenarios to figure out when I would come down? Have I looked at airfares from Boston (since we are planning to move back to my home state?) Have I been doing all of this except today’s strength training?

This beautiful weather down here this week has me hyper focused on how incredibly bad it was training at home this winter! I don’t know if I can gut it out again training for the full next year so maybe the half will be my plan.

I'm actively training for the Kentucky Derby marathon in April, but during all my runs it's the Disney marathon I visualize. It's addictive!

I ran the half back in 2018 and had an absolute blast! I wasn’t as trained as I would have liked so really just took it easy. Even enjoyed a beer in someone’s front lawn at one point .

The highlight was running through Churchill Downs. I hope your training goes well and you have just as much fun!

Posting this here from the 2026 thread (to keep us occupied while race weekend

SAFD: If you could design one Disney race—distance, theme, characters, whatever—what would it be? Realism is most definitely not required or expected!

My answer: Since I missed all the night time races, I would like to have a night time 10k (ish) And I would start at Hollywood Studios. We’ go immediately into the park and loop through as much as possible. There would be entertainment, light projections, etc to keep us amused, and since we’d have the park to ourselves, we’d be able to ride any ride we wanted.
Exiting HS, we’d run to Epcot. Again, torches, entertainers, Remy and GoTG reserved for us. A PROPER gospel choir or marching band to greet us as we finished. And then a “buffet” of our favorite Disney snacks and beverages.

Or maybe just a PotatoLand themed run

I second this 100 percent. I'd love to do a nighttime race, maybe a nighttime marathon? Same course, just starting at like 5 p.m. I'd make it villains themed and since realism is not required, each park would have fireworks going off every 10-15 minutes and I'd definitely time it so my run down Main Street, USA was accompanied by fireworks.

And while we're at it, Epcot is open to all runners for a post-race party in World Showcase that goes until 2 a.m.

SAFD: I second the idea of a night race. I would want a villains 5k run entirely in MK with all rides open. After the race, it’s party time with food and fireworks included.

SAFD: I would take anything outside the norm of what they do now. A 5k at MK and AK. Bring back the half that goes through AK. Night races? Sure why not.

SAFD: I guess Villains is a popular theme. I'd want a nighttime Villains half marathon that starts in the MK parking lot, goes through the entirety of MK and the new Villains land, and ends at Epcot while Epcot is still open. So basically the 2021 Wine and Dine theme and starting line but at night.

SAFD: Just bring back the Star Wars races. Start at least one at MK parking lot and include the awesome Endor battle down Bear Island Road so everyone can experience it in the dark. All courses should go through GE at DHS with as many characters out as possible (including the 501st).

SAFD: Thanks, @jmasgat, I have definitely been a mite preoccupied this morning. I'll be relatively boring and keep the standard 5k, 10k, half structure, but shift to a new theme and night races. I'd love to see a Pirates of the Caribbean themed weekend with the following structure:

Skeletal Pirates 5k: Run in the moonlight, the medal would be a spinner with pirates on one side and skeletal pirates on the other.

Black Pearl 10k: Pirate ship medal. That's enough for me.

Cursed Coin Half Marathon: Another spinner medal with the iconic cursed coin on one side and the magic compass on the other.

Captain Jack Sparrow's Challenge: Captain Jack along with a treasure map showing "x marks the races" as the medal.

SAFD: I was going to migrate to this thread my request for an rD trail race, but I just rewatched the POTC movies recently for the first time in years and I’m totally on board with @camaker’s Pirate theme!

It truly is. I have heard that before. I will say @Disney at Heart has said she is not sure about the marathon for a couple of years but for 2027 I think she may mean it. Sylvia you do the happy challenge and help us cheer at the marathon next year.

I will say I was concerned about how my race would go but I can say at this point, definitely in for the half in 2027.

This isn’t the right group to make statements like that to I’ve tried the last 2 years and still ended up with one Dopey and a Goofy. And ME weekend isn’t over yet - there’s still DATW!
