Serenity Bay Beach changes

I was thinking about the rest rooms - I find the entire environment at that side of the island to be peaceful and quiet...really improves my feelings of relaxation...even the tram to SB is distinctively different to the tram to the family beach. I can't imagine walking into the bathroom (which isn't that big) to a high school bathroom environment...bummer

We'll have to wait for reports from other DISers to see how this is implemented...fingers crossed

I think this is a horrible idea. First of all, that buffer zone won't be enough to stop the noise from the "teen beach" interrupting the serenity of Serenity Bay. Also, as PPs have mentioned, unless they run different trams or build separate bathrooms, teens will now be accessing those. It sounds like DCL didn't think this one through. It's going to upset their adult clientele, you know, the people who actually have the money to pay for the cruises. Coming so soon after the change in alcohol policy, it's making DCL a whole lot less attractive to adults who cruise without kids.

This is ALMOST an anti-adult move----[/QUOTE

I have to agree with you. Adults only parts of the cruiseship and Serenity Bay were the things I enjoyed the most during our cruise. What's the next move: children allowed in Palo and Remy?

I agree. I wouldn't have an issue necessarily with the adult areas being 16+ as long as they are with a parent/guardian but next to Serenity Bay is a stupid area for a teen beach. I don't think there will be a lot of serenity there much longer.

Devil's Advocate to the people stating something about the noise level: If you really pay attention when you're by the bar.... The CMs get pretty loud and rowdy as well with their music and whatnot.

Honestly, the only thing I care about is the BBQ. I won't be able to handle tall little humans in the way of my steak and chicken. LOL. (Please note that this last part is a joke. Kind of. :P)

Maybe that's why the bar is all the way at one end of the beach and not in the middle. Although I'll just throw in here that we loved that space directly in front of the bar - didn't find it loud or rowdy. And we were there most of the day.

Last time I checked, DCL has been voted best cruise line for Families year after year. This will help solidify this, now parents can eat lunch with their teens. What a wonderful concept :)

I'm guessing it's likely that most of those on this thread not bothered by the change are people with kids/teens. As adults without children, my husband and I are not happy about this. It isn't just the idea of teens in the very near distance of what is supposed to be pure serenity for adults. The likelihood of sharing the tram to "Serenity," sharing the restrooms and the BBQ area degrades an otherwise magical escape. The "family" areas on the ship and the island are huge. This probable infringement into the one adult area of the island is yet another way to say to child-free adults, "We don't want you or your money." However, if there are enough complaints, DCL could decide to build many more adult cabanas and market them as the place to find the serenity that used to be free at Serenity Beach, and probably at increased cabana fees. Peace and quiet could end up having its own price tag. Not to worry too much though until we see exactly how this plays out.

Not thrilled with this, but we will have to wait until we see if indeed there is any changes and what the change will actual be.

I love that area in front of the bar as well.
The crew beach can get loud every once and a while. I have not found the bar to be very loud.
I will wait until I hear this from DCL before I speak about the tween beach

I guess it depends on the Adult. We don't have kids, nor to any of our friends who cruise with us, but we've never used Serenity Bay because we've found it to be too quiet. Hubby and I stopped by on our very first cruise, quickly dubbed it Cocoon Lagoon, and made our way back to the family beach. We prefer a beach experience more akin to what we're used to at home: music playing, people watching, etc. (Plus, now with the edition of the Pelican Plunge, I can hardly get hubby out of the water anyway.)

I have two kids and I think where this supposed teen beach may end up is not a good move.

Am I the only one who is actually hoping it is tweens instead of teens...? At least then its easier to tell who is an adult and just a mature looking 17 year old... being that close to the bar and all. >_>

Disney does not negotiate until it hits their bottom line and they have shown time and again they DON'T want money from DINKs. Which would you rather bleed dry, a couple or a family of 3-8? Especially when said family is trying to make it "magical" for their kids?
