Hi Guys,

Planning a break for 4 adults & 1 child (age 4) for November. Initially i was booking 2 standard rooms at the Hotel New York but have just noticed for the same price we could stay in 2 Sequoia Lodge Golden Forrest Rooms.

In the brochure Hotel New York is given 4 keys where as Sequoia Lodge is only given 3 but i don't know if staying in a Golden Forrest Room sort of evens out the playing field?

The most important things to us would be....

Hotel Cleanliness goes without saying.

Food quality as we would be eating at least breakfast there everyday.

Swimming Pool as I am certain we will use this a few times during our stay, not sure if sequoia's pool looks more kid friendly?

I have a 4yr old, 2 teens and 2 adults to keep happy so which would you choose?

We havnt been to the park for 6yrs but in 2007 we stayed at Newport Bay which was fine and everyone enjoyed it but I wasn't keen on the whole nautical theme, and in 2008 we stayed at the Disney Hotel which was great for its location to the park but if you took away the characters we didn't the room any better than Newport Bay so we definitely would not pay almost double to stay there again.

So which should we try this year Sequoia or New york? x

I like both hotels. The SL has had a refurb recently and the HNY will be getting one when NPB is finished.

The Golden Forest rooms are the same as the rest in the hotel with the exception your on higher floors and that you have breakfast in a separate room so I don't think they makes a difference in how many keys it has been awarded.

Both hotel are clean, the HNY you have hot options for breakfast otherwise the breakfast is pretty much the same in both hotels.

Neither pools have a shallow end but inthe HNY you walk down some staggared steps to get into the water. The SL you would have to go to another building to go to the pool.

Thankyou you are definately the perfect person to ask having been to both :).

What I mean is if I went and looked round both hotels without knowing the price or rating could I tell the Hotel New York is "supposed to be" the better of the 2?

And you say the Hotel New York has a hot breakfast do you need to pay extra for this?

Thanksx

i haven't stayed in either hotel, but i've visited both, to have meals, relax in the bar, shop in the gift shops, and meet the characters.

I don't think you'd know, from the public areas, that there is any "star" rating diffference between the 2 hotels. HNY is going to close altogether for its refurb once the NPB refurb is finished, the Sequoia Lodge is fully refurbed.

Hot breakfast buffet items are included in your price at the HNY for everyone, and I believe the brochure blurb for the Golden Forest rooms mentions American buffet breakfast from November this year, so it sounds like similar hot breakfast items, included in the GF price.

Thankyou so much Elaine I was swaying towards the New York because of the hot breakfast but just read that as there will be no character breakfast in the SL from November they will be serving a hot breakfast instead so this along with the fact that it has just been refurbished I think the Sequoia Lodge will win out this time then maybe we can save trying the hotel New York until after it's refurb :).

And I also like the sound of the new "American" Breakfast as American to me suggests pancakes & Waffles which my kids love so everyone should be happy :) x

Stayed in both and I prefer HNY. It's closer to the parks. Pool is in the same building and it's more pleasant to use than SL. Breakfast is much better and not so crowded.

I rather HNY but in your case I'd go for SLGF as now with HNY due a renovation SL just feels fresher and more modern and the bambi theming is very nice.

Plus you have a separate breakfast being in GF rooms and I think afternoon tea as well but I hoping someone else can confirm this?

We are staying in golden forest at the end of November.
You have a dedicated check in area, one VIP fastpass per guest per day, nespresso machine in room, iron, fridge.
Use of gf lounge from 12-10.30pm for free soft drinks/hot drinks. Free cakes and sweets from 4-6pm.
Characters at breakfast until 13th Nov, when it changes to hot breakfast. No time slots for bfast.
:-)
GF rooms are in the main building on floors 5-7

Thankyou e1sa, All the little perks you listed for the Golden Forrest Rooms are what are really swaying me towards SL, but i didn't know about the no time slot for breakfast thing that is making it sound even better as on our last visit we were allocated 7.30 and there was no way my kids were ready to eat at that time they were still half asleep and this time i am travelling with my 4yr old who wakes early but likes to be awake at least an hour before he eats so that would be ideal :).

The only perk of the New York is the location but its only an extra 10min walk to SL where a nice warm drink could be waiting on us :) x

Not even 10 minutes really. The perks are what sold it to me too, and sequoia lodge is so beautiful with all the Xmas decs.

My 4yr old isn't a great walker at the best of times never mind for hrs at a time round the parks especially in the cold so I think i may have to take a buggy for him anyway so the extra few mins walk to the hotel wouldn't really matter x
