September Weather

Just a suggestion. I work outside all day in hot, humid, Southern Indiana. I've found now, that if I go outside for leisure activities, even in the hot part of the day, I don't sweat as much as my body is conditioned for it.

Just as you would with walking, you might want to start doing some yard work, walking, doing something in the heat of the day to get used to hot temps, and then if it's not that hot when you get to WDW, bonus! :thumbsup2

I agree with the above poster- if you condition yourself for the heat you will be better off. I grew up in Indiana and it was typical for me to get heat stroke on a normal afternoon in the sun. Now that I have lived in Houston for 6 years (my job also has me outdoors on a lot of summer afternoons at kids' camps) I was able to do WDW for 8 days last August with no major problems. Maybe while still at home, start spending some time outside walking while its still summer, stay hydrated, wear appropriate clothing and listen to your body. Plus, try to go with a good attitude about it, I hate the idea of anyone feeling fearful that they won't have a great vacation! I hope it is a great time for all you September travellers! :thumbsup2

I don't think its too bad and we go just about every year....(2 adults)

We typically get to the parks at park opening, and stay until about noon or so... then we either get into some air conditioning or go back to the hotel for a swim/rest and go back to a park later in the afternoon.

things we do in the afternoon are:

if in a theme park- shows like Mickeys philharmagic, hall of presidents, tiki room, etc.

Or we'll jump on the monorail and ride around to the monorail resorts to check them out, then take the monorail over to Epcot. (nice & air conditioned) maybe ride on ellens universe...

Ideas to stay cool:
-drink lots of water, avoid caffeine & alcohol
-wear light colored clothing (nothing too tight)
-we bring a mini misting fan
-bring zip lock bags & throw in a face cloth from the hotel to keep wetting. It feels so refreshing to put it on the back of your neck, ankles & wrists.

I think everyone's opinions on how hot it is, is all relative!

It really depends on what you are used to..what part of the country you live in (cool, hot, dry, humid, etc).
We are in Arkansas and although not the hottest state..it does get hot & humid here in July-sept.
We went the third week in Sept last year and are again this year.
We found it to be okay..not too bad actually. I was prepared for MUCH worse because of all I'd read on the disboards.
You definately won't need pants/jackets, but it is bearable.

Have a good time! :goodvibes

We are going the first week also. Are you worried about hurricanes? I'm a bumpkin I guess, because everyone says it's to far away from the coast for a hurricane to bother Orlando & I'm still freaking out a little about it.:confused3

I worry about hurricanes every year! They are rare in Orlando but they still do hit there occassionally. We got there after a hurricane a few years ago and Orlando looked like a war zone but you got onto Disney property and there wasn't a stick out of place...seriously they must have some crazy work crews that clean things up. BUT, hurricanes do affect weather and airports so even if the hurricane doesn't hit WDW, you can still be really affected. Oh no...did I just give you more things to worry about!??! :rotfl:

We don't worry about hurricanes.. (nothing we can do to control them);)
and we do buy the insurance through access america.

One year we did not have the insurance & a hurricane was due to hit Orlando the day before we arrived...we decided to leave a day later instead, (Still stay the same amount of days). JetBlue waived the change fee (weather related), and Disney let us switch without penalty. (i'm sure it was all due to the weather)....

everyone says crowds are low in sept. but it free dinning are they still lower?

In the past we've found this is our best time to go (in our experiences with crowds)....Even though they are offering free dining just means that more guests would be staying in the parks. There are a ton of timeshares & off propery hotels that are usually slow.

I just checked accuweather, and it looks like there are some stroms brewing in the Atlantic. :scared1: I sure hope that they don't effect Florida.
I will be keeping an eye on the weather.
Accuweather also has a 15 day forcast, so that's nice too.
:goodvibes :goodvibes Here's to GREAT weather vibes!! :goodvibes :goodvibes

My DH and I are also going in September, last two years have been in October, and our first year I took jeans to wear and had to buy shorts at the gift shop of CSR! I'll be prepared this year, we are going Sept. 13-20. I do have a question though, even though I've been reading the boards for three years now, I've missed the part about FREE dining! Can anyone send me a link to a thread with more info about that? It would be much appreciated!! Getting excited and ready to start packing!

Thanks!

Since 2005, Disney has been offering the Free Dining promo for Magic Your way packages with a 3 night minimum and a 14 day maximum (Basic Dining Plan; 1 TS, 1 CS, 1 Snack per person per night) during the last part of August until the end of September, give or take a few days. It is usually offered to UK visitors first (and for longer booking dates) and for the last two years, I believe, it has been offered as a bounceback to guest staying in the resorts during the Free dining promo. The free dining offer is usually announced during the first week of April. The first couple of days it will only be open to Disney Visa holders and then will open up to the general public. The booking dates for this year for the general public were August 24 through September 20 (but you could book up to 14 days past that date and still receive the FD promo) and you had to book by June 22 to receive the FD offer.

Free Dining has been a brilliant plan on the part of Disney to fill the crowds during what was previously their slowest season, and hurrican season to boot. And then having the bounceback for free food while the free diners are there in the parks, on their Disney high, well I would call that pure marketing genius.

The UK is already being offered a Free Dining promo for next year. The change for 2009 is that the Free Dining will be for the new Counter Service Dining plan. All speculation is that this will also be the offer for US guests.

Does anyone know IF, Disney offers the free dining for Sep 2009 and it is the newer 2 cs credits per, will a person be able to upgrade to the 1 cs and 1 ts plan, and just pay the difference between the two. Has this ever been an option?

Ahhh, thanks so much for the explanation! I kept seeing references to free dining and when I did a search it came up with nothing. This board is so huge sometimes it hard to find something, and even though I hate to ask questions that I know have probably been asked before, I don't know what else to do. :confused3 Thank goodness all the folks here are so friendly and KIND and don't mind answering the same questions over and over!!

Thanks again!

This year you could pay the $32.00 per person, per day difference and upgrade to the Deluxe dining plan. Everyone is assuming that you will be able to do the same next year. But no one know for sure yet. We may get some reports from the bouncebackers at the end of the month, though. I'm sure some of them will try to upgrade their bounceback (of couse, we are all assuming that there will be another bounceback offer this year). I guess we will have to wait and see.

Hey I've been looking for you! Aren't we supposed to meet for dinner?
PM me I will send you my cell so we can meet at the park!

thanks Princess Tiffany, thought that might be the case, but since I have never tried to upgrade my DDP, I thought I should ask, you are right hopefully things, or rather the rules won't change. I am not interested in the 2 counter services, I am older and I am taking my 77 yr old mother, just looking forward to some being waited on when we go.

We went in September 2002 and it was ridiculously hot and humid, plus it poured every afternoon for about 2 hours.

Sorry to be dense, but what is the bounceback? TIA!

Disney sometimes offers a bounceback offer for current guest to book the following year's trip. So basically, last Sept when I was Disney, we were offered a bounceback to book THIS year's trip. You have to put down the $200 deposit and book it BEFORE you check out. There will be a flyer in your room plus info on one of the tv channels if there is a bounceback offer. The bouncebacks CAN be pretty specific. The one we were offered was if Sept 07 guests come in Sept 08-you got free dining- no exceptions on the dates. They aren't all for free dining. Some are for room discounts. The free dining bounceback is ONLY offered in Sept due to hurricane season and low crowds.

My husaband compared it to vacationing on the surface of the sun. It is incredibly hot. My full face of make-up would usually be melted off by about 10:30 a.m. It rained a couple of the afternoons we were there. But it didn't really cool anything off, it just made it feel like you were walking around in a sauna.

That was my experience, too. I love the "surface of the sun" analogy :lmao:
When the afternoon rains were over, you could see the steam rising off the concrete.

I took advantage of early EMH when I could and was out of the parks by 1pm at the very latest.
