Hi.

If I have a September U/Y, can I borrow points in January 2020 from September 2021?
I know when I make my September 2020 ressie I can borrow from September 2021 but not sure about
January 2020.

Thank you.

When are you looking to travel? That’s the only thing that really matters.

If your stay is in January 2020, you’re in your 2019 UY and can only use the following points for that reservation:

Banked 2018 points
Current 2019 points
Borrowed 2020 points
One Time Use points at 7-months out

All the above points could be used between Sept 1, 2019 and Aug 31, 2020.

So it sounds like in January you want to book a reservation in January? If so then yes because if booking for travel in September 2020 you would just be starting your 2020 UY, so you could borrow your 2021 points.

Now if you were looking to book a trip in January 2020 then you would still be in your Sept 2019 UY and you could only borrow your September 2020 points, not Sept 2021 points.

Hope that makes sense. UY is confusing and takes some thought to think through when you are booking and what points are there to use.

Thank you. I was looking to travel for January 2020, which means I would be only able to use borrowed September 2020 points, correct?
This is important information for me to have since I was going to change my room size I currently have at GF from standard studio to standard
1 bedroom for September 2019, and some of those points are borrowed September 2020. If I changed my room to one bedroom, I would be borrowing more
September 2020 points and possibly not have enough for where I want to stay in January 2020 and now you confirmed I cannot borrow September 2021 points for
that reservation. However, when I book my stay for September 2020, if need be, I can borrow September 2021. Is this all correct (and exhausting LOL).

Thank you.

Yikes, now I'm confused again.
I would like to be at Disney in January 2020. I am wondering if I can use September 2021 points if needed. I am thinking I cannot but your first paragraph
confused me again LOL

I have the points for the trips but it just matters if I'm going to upgrade my September 2019 trip or not, which I am using some September 2020 points.

Thank you for your help.

I believe the motto is "If you can book it, you can borrow."

Yes, lol, but I don't want to leave myself short for 2021.

I have a ressie booked for September 2019 right now in a standard studio at GFVs, 9 nights.

I want to stay at Disney January 2020 and September 2020.

If I changed my September 2019 GFV studio to a one bedroom, it would require my borrowing more September 2020 points.
The rest of the September 2020 points I could use for January 2020 (is this correct?)
and when I book September 2020 I could borrow from September 2021 (is this correct?)
but don't want to have to borrow a ton from September 2021 for my September 2020 trip since I will want to go again.
I really was trying to figure out if I want to put a WL/Stalk for a one bedroom at GFVs to move from my studio since the washer/dryer and full
fridge would be nice to have for 9 nights.

Forget about when you are booking and look only at your dates of stay. Looking at the dates you will be staying in a room determines the UY in which your stay will take place. Based on that, you can only borrow one year ahead. So your January trip is in your 2019 UY. Which means you can only use the following points for that stay.

Banked 2018 points
Current 2019 points
Borrowed 2020 points
One Time Use points at 7-months out

You cannot borrow from you 2021 UY for a stay that takes place in your 2019 UY.

ETA: Your September 2020 trip can borrow from your 2021 UY because that trip will be taking place in your 2020 UY. So for the September 2020 trip, you can use the following points:

Banked 2019 points
Current 2020 points
Borrowed 2021 points
One Time Use points at 7-months out

Perfect!
Thank you so much.

You need a new DVC calendar, kind of like a Fiscal Year calendar that many businesses use. Your calendar starts on Sept 1 and goes to Aug 31 each year. If you need a physical calendar to look at, you can make one or buy a school year calendar and tear off the pages you don't need.

I still have to 'sketch' it out sometimes! I have a DVC notebook that I use to play with points, keep track of flight info, deadlines for FP and dining, etc. It's all online but I like to make the notes by hand so I can see everything at once. Silly me! Type A :D

I believe the motto is "If you can book it, you can borrow."

While that's true it isn't stating what UY you can borrow from - just that you can borrow. As outlined a Jan 2020 stay with a Sept UY means the reservation would be in their 2019 UY (Sept 1, 2019-Aug 31, 2020). So they could use banked 2018 points, current 2019 points or borrow 2020 points. They cannot borrow 2021 points until they are booking for a stay that occurs in their 2020 UY.
