What's the deal? The rates for rental cars in mid September are through the roof compared to our previous trips. $300+ for a week from most places. We have NEVER paid more than $150ish. Anyone else finding the same thing?

I booked a midsize through National (picking up at the Dolphin) for $137.44/week in September. I used an Entertainment coupon along with the Entertainment ID code.

No, you are not the only one....:) I was shocked at how much the cars were when I booked in Jan. and now that I need to add a day they want another $150!:scared1: I have to think we are at the "worst" with aprox 180 days out..and that as we get closer to the day and people opt out of their planned trips the prices will drop.....

L&M car rental or EZ car rental,
you can try those two, you can pick your car up at the airport terminal. and their prices arent bad..

We have a 12 day rental, which National counts as two weeks, for about 370 with all taxes included. We used the Costco membership code and a coupon from the entertainment book. This is also picking up at the CCC and dropping off at MCO. It's still a lot more than we paid last year.

For ALAMO, Try using the walmart code.. 428448 with the Rate Code of LAN .
It seems to have helped the rates. I got a 17 day rental for $350 and used an entertainment coupon for a free upgrade.

Kris:thumbsup2

Where did you get the LAN code? It gives the same benefits that the 211220 code gives and that has been met with mixed results. Usually when you get insurance and additional drivers included it is a code from a foreign agency of some kind.

THe issue with the 211220 code is indeed that it is a foreign code and therefore everyone is not eligible.
The walmart code 428448 and 430710 are open to all. Both walmart codes come with a FREE additional driver. That is well known on these boards and is legitimate.

At one point about a year ago my reservation came up with LAN in the Rate code slot. I never put it there , the computer system did. I just left it there and use the Walmart corporate code when I make new ressies. When asked, I can legitimately say "the computer put the rate code " in which was true the first time I used it.

As always, ymmv .

Still nothing really good coming out that I can find for September :-(

I used National 6/13-20. The rates dropped like a rock about 2 weeks before. From around $300 to $150 (8 days, Emerald Aisle, used Emerald Club code and $35 coupon).

Try Thrifty! I was able to get a decent rate 9/11-9/19 mid-size 191+tax=263
It's the cheapest I've seen..so I decided to book it just in case the rates don't come down. There's been a lot of talk in the media about rental car companies, so I'm going to be safe rather than sorry. I would much rather go with Alamo or National, but gotta do what I gotta do...Anyone use Thrifty?

I just tried Alamo with walmart code for the same period picking up from and dropping off at MCO and got 267..I'm convinced they fluctuate their prices throughout the day...same thing was costing me 350+ a few days ago. I guess I'll go with Alamo bc it has the extra driver.

First let me said that was then and this is now. I rented a car for a week late January and 2 weeks early May. My rates (National) never dropped and was no where what I was use to. I had to change my level of acceptance. If the base rate was/is now around $200 a week before taxes and fees I now consider that a good rate. Last week the base rate was $320 and this week it's $280 (for my July trip in TWO weeks). While recently alot of my friends saw some great rates drop prior to their trips, this was the first time it happened this year. Both my January and May trips never got the "drop" prior to the date effect that we've grown use to. My next trip is TWO weeks from today and still the base is $280. You need to let "last year's rate" go and fine a new rate you are happy with. I find a one week stay now cost me around $230 (if I'm lucky) for a midsize. Good luck and watch the boards as we monitor the car rates daily! (at least I do with 4 more trips scheduled this year)! I only use Natinonal, so don't know about other companies.

Just went back on this morning to quote the same above with Alamo and the rate is back up to well over 350 including taxes. I would also suggest getting a quote late at night, that seems to be when the rates drop some. I made mine close to midnight.

I forgot to mention in my quote above the 267 includes tax and fees...I think the PP is right, while I would love to pay $100 per week, I don't think we will see those rates again, where I live we typically see weekly rates around 200-250 anyway, so it's not such a shock to me.

I needed a short weekend rental at the CCC for Labor Day weekend prior to our Wonder cruise. Pick up Thurs nite, drop off Sun AM.
3 day rental with National, midsize , using the AARP 6100120 and Entertainment Free weekend day coupon nf3713hwm $83.79 for 3 days.
We are taking the DCL bus to the port, then on the return we have a compact with Budget from port to DTD to airport for $41.50 for one day.
Rates are high, so I will keep checking.

One suggestion I have is don't book on the weekends. I booked a car through Avis for 9/24 - 10/1 (7 days) with discount code X618711, which I found online through a website offer and a free day when you use your visa card coupon code TUCA044. We got a midsize car for $220. I was really worried about the cost too, but just look every day for new rates and new codes.

Okay yeah, I got under $200 all in for my 7 day rental in August using that ID and coupon, but we still don't know what company that ID belongs to. I still consider it a 'questionable' code. Anyone know any different??

P.S. Hi Michelle Shoes99!!!

Hi Nancy, couldn't find any info on 5000672 on flyertalk.
I just paid $200 for a full size rental for 5 days picking up at MCO and dropping off at TPA, using AARP 6100120 and Ent coupon for $35 off.
