September advice

I usually go in the end of September and go to one of the first Halloween parties. The weekends will be busy, but I've found that the weekdays, and especially the weekday mornings, are generally quite manageable. It's not empty, but for the first few hours of the day, the lines are fairly short (under 15 minutes) for most attractions (except Space, GotG, RSR, and Peter Pan, which build quickly). HalloweenTime generally starts in early-to-mid September. They usually make the announcement sometime in mid-summer (early-July of late) about when the parties will occur and when HalloweenTime will start.

In terms of the Halloween Parties, those are a lot of fun, but they are a separate ticketed event. There is an overlap period, starting around 3 or 4 pm (depending on when the party starts) when both MHP and day guests are in the parks and it gets quite crowded at that point. The parties are very popular and generally all will sell out in advance.

I've found that late September is usually anywhere from warm to HOT. For me, it's usually been shorts and t-shirt weather...same as July.

Wow I didn’t think it would be that hot but if it’s about the same as July might as well go when halloween is up and running. We are early morning rd people and then usually stay all day until close so we are used to being up early to get on the must do rides. We were planning on doing a Tuesday-Thursday with one of those nights hopefully being a Halloween party.

The Halloween party sounds really fun. Is it just for one of the two parks?

Hmm now to decide between a 3day park hopper or 2day ph with a Halloween ticket.

Things can change, so there is no way to know if this year will be like previous years...that being said, the official Mickey's Halloween Party happens in Disneyland. It includes an exclusive parade, fireworks, entertainment (e.g., Cadaver Dans), dance parties, character meet & greets, and trick-or-treating. Last year, they made the ticket be a park hopper ticket, so for the three hours before the party started and during the party, MHP guests could "hop" over to DCA. They added a lot of decorations to DCA last year, especially in Carsland and BVS. So it really felt like HalloweenTime was happening in both parks. Dis'ers have reported that on party nights, DCA gets very busy once the party starts because everyone that doesn't have a MHP ticket, but has park hoppers, heads over to DCA.

I would tentatively wait until they announce more about the MHP for 2018. There have been rumors that the party may change this year, but those rumors have existed for a quite a while, so I tend to take them with a grain of salt. Hopefully we'll know more by mid-summer.

We won’t know if we are going for awhile, at least until May. I’ll wait to hear more about the parties before we make a decision.

Yep that makes sense. It’s just really hard for me to plan our trip when I have no idea what to expect crowd wise.
Try RideMax. They tend to be accurate or overestimate. Things like touring plans tend to underestimate. If you overestimate a little how crowded it will be, you will love it when it is less crowded than you expected.

Thanks I’ll try that.

Always go during the week..Weekends are always crowded and there wont be any black out dates after the Labor Day holiday. Be prepared for it to be hot!

I think we’ve decided we aren’t going this year. Our Disney world trip is in 30 days and then we would like to a non Disney trip this summer instead. Thanks for your advice though!

I'm glad I read this thread. It will be our 1st time going to DL and we wanted to go in September but I saw Space mountain and pirates and haunted mansion are getting rehabs. I think we will wait

Where did you see that at?
