September 8,2005 Disney Wonder

Well everybody - back to work for a few days until Tuesday - These boards are getting me so anxious, I'm getting SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't forget IPODS, sunscreen, shady hat and cool clothes - weather today in Bahamas - 90 degrees but feels like 102. Watch taking medicines that have side effects when you are exposed to heat. Be sure to check with your pharmacists before you leave to make sure there aren't any side effects you're not aware of or that are effected by exposure to sun. Weather prediction for 9/9 in Nassau is partly sunny - 90s - 10%rain - I'll see you all on board - save me some shrimp -

Just sent hubby out to gas up our family van to assure we'll have a way to get to Port Canaveral on Thursday (hubby drives car and I drive work vehicle during the week). He had to go to three different stations to find one that had gas and then wait in a long line but we're full. Quite a bit of guilt that I'm getting ready to go on a cruise with all that is going on so close to home. :guilty:

Good idea. What a smart daughter I raised. :teeth:

Our first cruise....but we love Disney and are so excited about this. Our only son will turn 9 on the 9th day of the 9th month. We told him it would be magical birthday. He doesn't know where we are going....we will keep it a secret until we see the Mickey ears on the cruise ship. Any other kids in that age group? :bday:

I see that they are bringing a carnival ship into no to house some of the people. We haven't heard from newtodcl since last week. I hope everything is ok with her and her family.
The gas situation has eased up now that everyone is out of the panic mode.Gas is anywher from 2.89 and up. You pump whatever is open.
Today we took the clothes out and are starting to organize the suitcases. Also need to figure out which medications need to be renewed.
Took out our Tropical shirts for Pirate night. Now I'm getting stressed.
This time we vowed not to take so many clothes and I think we just may succeed.

We are leaving from Boston in the AM for the Land portion of our DW vacation. I needed to get my nightly fix now that I'm all packed . My DS Connor just turned 5 but is a pretty mature 5 yr old and tends to gravitate to older children, glad to hear that there are others aboard. Hope everyone has a safe journey to Pt. Canaveral and looking forward to seeing everyone onboard next week. :earboy2:

Ok everyone on this cruise
pixie dust is needed for the weather !
Nate may bring lots of showers and not many sailaway parties..

Hi. I am not on this sailing but I just wanted to update you all with weather info. I believe DCL has a statement on its website right now. Here is a link to that statement: http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/dcl/en_US/general/crisis?name=CrisisCommunicationPage

It is not Nate you have to worry about it is Tropical Depression 16 (if it becomes a tropical storm, its name will be Ophelia). On the current NHC track a Tropical Storm will be off the coast of Port Canaveral on Thursday. This can change because right now the system is pretty much stationary.

Here is the forecasted track (it will update itself when the NHC updates it):

Please keep a close watch on this system. Some good sites to track it are:

Darn it, I really hope we don't have to drive down to ft lauderdale as it causes so many delays.Last year we came into that port and the buses really got us back to the port in record time. It's the going down that is the problem. You get on the ship so much later and miss out on lunch etc.I wonder if changing the ressie is an option?

Weather Update:

Tropical Storm Ophelia strengthened as it moved slowly northward off Florida's east coast Wednesday morning.

Ophelia prompted forecasters to issue a tropical storm warning for the Central Florida coastline from Flagler Beach southward to Sebastian, WESH 2 News reported.

A tropical storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected within the area within the next 24 hours.

The system is expected to skirt the coastline over the remainder of the workweek, and possibly begin a southward loop by the weekend, forecasters said.

At 11 a.m., the center of Tropical Storm Ophelia was located near latitude 28.8 north, longitude 79.3 west or about 85 miles east-northeast of Cape Canaveral.

Ophelia is moving toward the northwest near 3 mph. This general slow motion is expected to continue for the next day or two.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph. Some strengthening is expected during the next 24 hours.

Between 3 and 5 inches of rain, with isolated higher amounts of 8 inches, are expected in portions of Central Florida, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Waves to be 12 -15 feet tonight and tomorrow.

Waiting for DCL info.

Get your bags packed for Fort Lauderdale.

Following is the official announcement from the DCL web site.

Weather Update

As of 1:00 p.m. EST - September 7, 2005

The safety and comfort of our guests is always our highest priority, and we are always prepared to modify our itineraries to avoid severe weather.

Due to the potential impact of Tropical Storm Ophelia along the Central Florida coast, the Disney Wonder cruise ship will operate out of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale rather than Port Canaveral on Thursday, September 8, 2005. The September 8, 2005, three-night cruise will depart from Port Everglades and return to Port Canaveral on September 11, 2005.

Disney Cruise Line® reservation's agents are in the process of contacting guests scheduled to depart on the September 8 cruise and are making transportation arrangements for them to get to Fort Lauderdale. In addition, transportation arrangements are being made for those who are returning on the four-night September 4th cruise.

Guests who were planning to drive to Port Canaveral on September 8th should still plan to do so. We ask that you arrive no later than 2 p.m. on Thursday for transport to Port Everglades by bus.

At this time, there are no additional changes to upcoming itineraries. The Disney Magic is expected to set sail as scheduled from Port Canaveral on September 10, and the Disney Wonder is expected to depart as scheduled from Port Canaveral on September 11.

Guests who are scheduled to sail on the September 8, 2005 cruise may call (800) WDW-CRUISE or 800-939-2784 for more information.

My wife is so happy we are going on this cruise during hurricane season. :rotfl2: Now I remember why we decided against going on a cruise 23 years ago, and instead went to WDW for our honeymoon.

Just another adventure to talk about!

See you soon.

Arrrggghhh! I just rebooked our flight to arrive in FLL. I just couldn't face that long drive in a bus!

Just spoke to DCL and we will be catching early bus out of pc tomorrow am.Just a change in starting time. But a great inconvienience. Oh well, I still would rather be on the ship than in the rain here.
