September 5th 2016, 4 Night Dream Cruise

Once you're on board you can make or switch reservations for Palo and Remy. We have always been able to squeeze in another upscale dinner on a cruise:love:. By the way, Cathie and I are eating dinner at Royal Palace on Tuesday (day 2) and Animator's Palate on Thursday (day 4). I'm not sure what that means as far as the rotation, we requested those venues/days to work with out Palo and Remy days. Boy, I'm getting hungry already !!!!!!

Glad they accommodate you with the days, MDRs you want!

We have been able to change dinner reservations on embarkation day too.

I've checked and it appears the positioning cruise NY to San Juan in November 2017, is eligible for on board discount, so we will definitely book it. There are 3 sea days on a 5 night cruise, sweet! Tom and I have only seen Tangled on The Magic once and we think it's the best show on DCL ever! I do wonder if it's on any of the other ships, if so, we've missed it.

My favorite one is the golden mickeys and I definitely want to see some other shows on board as well so I can choose which is the best.

That sounds like a great cruise. Do you have to travel both to and from? November weather could be iffy

The next cruise is from San Juan, I think to Miami, and we would love to do it, but there's a restriction, cannot board the ship in NYC and end up in Florida.

SW's price to MCO from San Juan is pretty good, so after the cruise, we will go to WDW for our December visit.

Good Morning Dream Family, only 42 more days!!!!!!! Question: How deep is the water where the mickey mouse statue is, my daughter does not know how to swim YET (we're working on that), will she be able to see it?

I would say the bottom is at 8-10 feet but the statue is about 5 feet from the bottom so yes, your daughter should be able to see it from the surface unless it is a windy day and the water is murky.

I like the "Dream Family" or how about "The Dreamers"? Our group needs a name.

I wonder why that is

It is not The Jones act, but something like that. It is very confusing, because the ship does go to CC and I think one other stop en route to FL, but they do not qualify as foreign points.
Tom called DCL and was told we could not, then for good measure he asked Tracy whom we work with at DU.

Either is fine with me. I would be happy with family members like participants on this thread, and we're definitely Dreamers!

There are lifeguards, but I personally would not bring someone who could not swim out that far.

Seeing the underwater features would be another reason to sail again.:yay:

From Cruise Law News.....

Why Can't You Cruise From One U.S. Port to Another U.S. Port?
Posted on September 9, 2011 by Jim Walker
Every so often we receive an email or telephone call from someone asking why cruise ships can't sail from one U.S. port to another.

The reason is because there is a Federal law which prohibits foreign flagged ships from coastwise trade between U.S. ports. Only U.S. flagged ship can do that. The thought at one time was that such a law would promote U.S. shipping by providing preferential treatment of US vessels over "foreign" vessels.

The law in question is the Merchant Marine Act of 1920. This is a U.S. Federal statute which regulates maritime commerce in U.S. waters and between U.S. ports. Section 27, known as the Jones Act, deals with the concept of "cabotage" (coastal shipping). The law requires that all goods transported by water between U.S. ports be carried in U.S.-flag ships, constructed in the United States, owned by U.S. citizens, and crewed by U.S. citizens.

This is why you don't see a cruise ship sailing from New Orleans to Galveston and letting off passengers (for example). The reality today of course is that virtually all cruise ships are foreign flagged in order to avoid US taxes and occupational laws. So the entire US based cruise fleet can't sail from one US port to another.

Critics of the law argue that the law increases the costs of shipping good between U.S. ports. U.S. shipbuilders are also substantially higher than vessels constructed overseas. As a result, U.S. shipyards now build only 1 percent of the world's large commercial vessels.

There is now a bill which has been introduced to amend the law to allow foreign-flag cruise ships to operate in the coastwise trade of the United States. It was introduced by Representative Blake Farenthold (R-TX) and co-sponsored by Ron Paul. Representative Farenthold believes that opening up coastal trade to all cruise ships will result in more cruise ships sailing from one US port to another and the US and Texas would benefit economically.

However, U.S. shipbuilders and companies engaged in coastwise trade are opposed to amending the law. A recent controversy regarding shipping crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve reveals that the new bills will face strong opposition.

Thank you, but can you explain PC cruises? Or are the 2 coasts the explanation.

Princess Schmoo explained a South American or ABC port count as the foreign port that allows
the PC cruises.

I appreciate the help!

Have you seen any of the other shows?
I have not so I will try to see a few others while on the ship. :) By the way I love the name "The Dreamers" for our group! It's cute and we are certainly dreaming of the Dream and sailingto the Bahamas!

I can't explain it as I only found that information out today doing a web search. I looked at the PC itinerary and there are stops in foreign countries before and after the canal. I'm wondering if the fact that P.R. is a U.S. Territory is making a difference?
