Good Morning...

What about the Mimi's on Harbor? or maybe Downtown Disney and walk to the Esplanade between the parks? I just do not know what to expect traffic wise when I get to where I am going...it really depends on how long I'm at my appointment.

Have a good day, glad to hear you're feeling better. Hope you get some great photos of the shuttle.

Hi Disney-ite

It was nice meeting you today.

Hi everyone. I kept checking Facebook to see if a page had been created for this cruise. I hadn't checked in an awfully long time. Nor have I been on DisBoards (shame on me) in a very long time. But, here we are, getting very excited for this cruise.:hourglass

Welcome to the cruise thread! Looking forward to meeting you...please join us at the meet and greet on Sunday, Sept. 30th at the Promenade lounge - 3:00 pm.

Happy Birthday to Sabrina.

I'm really starting to feel guilty about leaving our dd11 and dd16 behind on this trip. I hope I don't break down and rent a car in San Francisco and run home for a bit, do a quick pick up after school and help with some homework. Let's see, it's a 2 hour drive and on Wednesdays, dd11 gets out at 1:32, don't need to be back until all aboard.... Hopefully a phone call will suffice.

As I start packing, I realize that some of what goes in which bag depends on how the whole luggage thing works at port (not to mention working out which bags we're checking at the airport, etc!) So I'd like to know more about what happens at port... Here's what I'd like to know:

We can't check in earlier than our scheduled time, right? My understanding is we just need to hang around and that there's not much to do while waiting but what about food? Is there somewhere to grab lunch?

Are there long lines at check in? If our scheduled time is 1pm, do we have to wait till 1pm to get in line or can we judge how fast it's going and get in line earlier and hope it's not 1pm till we get to the desk? :-)

When we do check in at 1pm, we give them (almost) all our luggage to be taken to our room, right? About what time does it show up in our room? Around when can we get in the room? Since the kids want to swim right away, we just need to keep one bag w/ that stuff and we're good, right?

How much time passes between getting our KTTW card and being able to get on the ship?

Ok, I think that covers it! Thanks so much for your help, everyone!

EDIT: We're using private transportation from LAX to the Port (still haven't figured out who, yet) so won't have the benefit of having bags taken directly from the airport to the ship.

Hi Seamama

Sometimes you can check in earlier than your scheduled time. It just depends on a couple different factors. I wouldn't count on it though. There are vending machines at the port however they are after you check in in the waiting room.

Last time we were able to walk right up to the desk but our check in time was 11 or 11:30. I can't remember exactly. The check in process is pretty fast so if you do have to wait in line it would be to long.

The luggage usually shows up to your room around 2 or 3.

Basically this is what happens:

When you get to port a porter will take your luggage that is not going to be carried on. Remember to tip them. From that point you won't see that luggage until it appears in your stateroom. Next you go into the building and then you go upstairs (elevator also available). Once upstairs you will fill out a small health question form (only half a page). one per person and then either wait in line or in the small lobby until your check in time.

Once you get to the check in counter they will check you in, go over your payment info on onboard charging, check in your children, and issue your KTTW cards. From there you go back downstairs to another section.

Once downstairs again you will pass through security. Just like at the airport. The carry-ons will go on a belt so make sure you can lift them and you will have to go through the metal detector. After that your in a big waiting room with lots of excited people.

The waiting room has restrooms available, snack machines and a tv area for the kids. Also their is a lots of windows so you will see the ship and their is even an outside patio. Some of the characters will come out for photos on a little backdrop they have set up. Because your check in isn't till 1 you most likely will not be in the waiting area to long.

When you start boarding. Their will be a spot for a family photo and then you take 3 ramps up to the ship. You will be directed to one of two dining places for lunch. Don't worry about your carry-on, when you get to the dining area a server will help you carry your food to a table.

I hope this helps.

What check in time does everyone have? We booked late on this cruise so got the 11.30 check in time. Wondering if we will bump onto any of you in line? :)

You didn't book as late as I did :), only time left was like 2pm. Since the flight lands at 10am I guess we will get to know the terminal intimately. Last time we were at DL for the day and showed up around 3pm and walked right onboard :).

This is so helpful, thank you! I didn't realize we got rid of (most of) our luggage even before we went to the building, that's good to know.

So the small lobby where we have to wait before check in time- there's nothing to do there, right? And not more than vending machines to get (I'm assuming only snack-type) food? We arrive at LAX at like 8:30am and I thought we'd just go straight the port (arriving by 10am) and wait till our 1pm check in. But that's a lot of time to kill w/ two excited kids who will also eventually want lunch! Maybe we'll have a hearty breakfast at LAX before heading to the port...
