September 30, 2012 - "To San Francisco and Beyond"

Ok folks, crusie is paid off, and shore trips planned. Come on July so we can book'em.:cool1:

As a San Francisco native, I'm way too cheap to be booking excursions through DCL for the city I grew up in and still work in. So I was looking for a tour that my husband and I did a year ago and loved. Unfortunately Mr Toad's tours has gone out of business. While researching trying to find a substitute, I came upon a Groupon that can be purchased through midnight pacific time tomorrow 6/4 for a 3.5 hr tour through City By The Bay tours
2 people $49, 4 people $89. Here's the Yelp review

Hello fellow dis people.

My husband Glenn and I (Ruth) are on this cruise. I know Lady Boadicea:wave2: and Disney-ite yes it is moi littlebelle :).

We are planning on going to disneyland before the cruise. Not sure what hotel disney cruise picks up from. Anyone know?

Look forward to meeting you all.

Wow just saw we are on a Pixar themed cruise. Who knew when we signed up in 2011 we would have a unique cruise :) Happy dance. oh and for people interested in seeing the Walt disney Museum you can walk there from the terminal. Which we plan to do. Will save alot of money that way :)

Welcome Ruth! I am so excited that you and Glenn are joining us! I am looking forward to seeing you again :):cheer2:

Hello Littlebelle!!

I'm so thrilled that you will be on the cruise. Unfortuneatley, my family and I will not be on the cruise due to school. By the way, this is Street from VMK.

DCL just sweetened the pot, if you pay with your Disney Visa, now you get a Pixar book...

Hi Belle 1997! I booked through Dreams Unlimited and they are arranging the transfers for us. We had our choice of any of the DL hotels. We are also going to DL before the cruise and we are from Newmarket! Hope that we will have a chance to meet!! Too bad that we can't take advantage of the Pixar book as Disney still doesn't offer the Disney Visa to Canadians Eh?!;)

Glad that you're going to Disneyland before your cruise. I just need to mention again that it's 4 miles to the Walt Disney Family Museum, and while it's a great place to visit, I wouldn't consider that walkable. Public transportation would take a long time. I suggest taking a taxi and splitting the cost. That's what my group will be doing.

and once again, I'm not only a native San Franciscan, I still work in the city every day.

Thanks for your advice re: transport to the WD museum...

As you are a native of the town and work there everyday can you recommend a great place to eat clam chowder. Every visit to the US I look forward to eating it and I hear you can get it on fisherman's wharf but would like to go to a place recommended by someone.

Sorry, I can't help you with a recommendation for Clam Chowder as I'm allergic to shellfish...... We will be docking quite close to Pier 39 and there are tons of places there to get it.

If I were bringing someone to Pier 39 to eat, I'd go upstairs to the Eagle Cafe, it was one of the original buildings on the pier and when they wanted to "gentrify" the Pier and turn it into a tourist destination, one of the stipulations was that they had to preserve the Eagle Cafe. By all accounts, the clam chowder there is not only served in a sour dough bread bowl, it's pretty good.

Thanks for your recommendation. I have looked it up and this will definitely be a place we will go into as would rather use a local than 'the big boys' and I have heard that I have to try the sourdough bread whilst visiting too!

To funny. Being from Barrie we drive by Newmarket each day. We are planning on going to DL on September 26 onwards. Not sure what flights we are taking yet toss up right now between southwest buffalo and Toronto. Time will tell on which ends up being the cheapest :) Since we need to take into consideration hotel stay before and after.

So here we are going all the way to the West coast to meet up and we live no more than 20 minutes apart lol :)

Ok since you work in the area could you please recommend a taxi service that we can pre book an accessible cab. If we can not count on one we will be walking not going to miss this. !!!!

Just off the Magic, where I officially booked this cruise to take advantage of onboard booking benefits. I'm going through the post cruise blues, wishing someone would clean up after me twice a day, do all the cooking and serving, and turn down my bed at night. So much easier to get through it knowing I have this one to look forward to in less than 4 months!

I got 206 & 235 out of Buffalo (with Jet Blue). I didn't think that was too bad!! Toronto taxes are just a killer! We're leaving the 27th.

So I will not tell you what we paid yesterday. We got 150 and 190 out of Buffalo with Southwest yesterday. Total 678.00

Going down we change planes but on the way back it is one stop no change planes.

Darn! I would have sworn that I already answered this one, but I can't find it. Luxor cabs added accessible cabs last year, here's the news release

"SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A San Francisco cab company is getting 40 new vehicles specifically to transport people with disabilities.

The car uses compressed natural gas so it will get excellent mileage, and according to the manufacturer, is the first vehicle designed from the ground up for wheelchair accessibility.

A prototype was shown off Wednesday morning for senior citizens who were able get in and out using a motorized ramp. Some noticed a huge difference from the current cabs that lift them backwards onto the vehicle.

"This is the first time that I have been able to enter and exit the van facing forward, which is a safer way to exit and enter," said Bruce Oka with the SFMTA Board of Directors. "

Thank you :) I wrote to Disney and at first got the canned answer. So I wrote back saying it was not helpful at all. I found it a shame that the Walt Disney Family Museum was accessible and the trip over there was not. That I wanted this forwarded to the Head of Excursions. The least they could do is find a cab I could trust in. I got a call they have made the excursion accessible!!! It is also accessible to all now.

My husband and I just booked this cruise for our kids (5 and 3). We were already scheduled to go on the MR cruise on 11/25 but decided this one sounded fun and we will be celebrating our DS 6th birthday while on the cruise. This is our kids 3rd cruise and our 4th. So excited. I'm not trying to find a hotel to stay in the night before the cruise, and looking for one that offers transportation and park and cruise. Any ideas?

We are:

Lisa
Carl (DH)
Alec (DS, age 5 turning 6)
Olivia (DD, age 3)

Welcome DesertGal and family!!!

You might try calling Disney Cruise Line and see if they can recommend a hotel...we did when we sailed last year out of Vancouver and Disney took care of transporting
our luggage to the ship from our hotel. It was so nice...we just had to walk over and board the ship and our luggage arrived later at our stateroom door :)
