September 3, 2005 --- Who is going?

Oh you are girls after my own heart. Nora Roberts is my favorite. Her current trilogy is so good. Blue Dahlia, Black Rose and there is a new one due out in December - Red Lily. It was the McGregors that got me started and the Irish Trilogy is also a favorite.

Here are my 5

1. If I could go anywhere, where would I go?

Ireland and any place tropical.

2. If I had a million dollars what would I do with it?

I would pay off my house as well as both of our moms homes. I could use a new car, another cruise, and invest the rest. Hey, I could probably even fill the gas tank on my SUV. :rotfl2:

3. All time favorite movie?

I love chick flicks. Love Actually, Gone with the Wind, Sleepless in Seattle, An Affair to Remember. I also love old Doris Day movies.

4. Favorite TV Show?

Can't pick just one - Survivor (also a big Colby fan - not so big on Rob and Amber though), Amazing Race, CSI and Without a Trace

5. What books do I read?

Anything Nora Roberts and Harry Potter

I have so much to do still. I feel so unorganized. How could that be? I've been planning this trip for 7 months. I have got to get cracking tomorrow, we leave Tuesday. We did finally get DS pirate attire today. Whew! Now I just have a list for Walmart and I think I'm finally done shopping! This will be a crazy weekend but I just keep thinking about what we'll be doing next weekend and all is well. :cloud9:

Happy packing everyone!
Rachel

Here's Mine:

1. I'd go to Paris
2. Million bucks? We'd sell the business and move to Florida, or the Carribean
3. Sound of Music. Always watch it on TV at Easter.
4. Amazing Race is my fav. followed by Apprentice
5. Romance books. Nora Roberts, Danielle Steele, and yes, I've read a few trashy Jackie Collins

Bob & Tom: You both provided me your cell phone #'s, so don't be surprised if I give you both a call Thursday regarding Margaritaville for Friday! Anyone else thinking of going?

Bob: Don't let me leave unless I bought that Parrott Flag. I don;t want to be thrown overboard by an angry pirate!!

Two more sleeps for me. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

i'm over the 800 post mark with this one.

Hello everyone....

Sorry to be off today - we have all sort of out of town visitors this weekend and we've been running around tag team style hitting who we can - and doing more of it tomorrow too.

So - DFF - what a great idea for a round of fun questions.... here are our answers - Tom / Alicia / then our daughter Julianna too.

disneyfanforever said:
1. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? -

2. If you had a million dollars, what would you do? -

3. What is your all time favorite movie?

4. What is your favorite TV Show?

5. What type of books do you like to read?

#1... Where in the world...
Alicia's first reply was "I don't know".... "I'd travel through-out Europe"
::MinnieMo Julianna said.... "I'd go to Florida to 'MY BOAT'" (the Magic)
Tom sez... " I would begin with opting for a huge fantail veranda cabin on Crystal Harmony for a round the world sailing (assuming my cruise fare, incidentials, gratuities, + shore excursions are covered)... AND if I could add it I would also like to go to the set of the next Star Trek Movie when it's filming and occupy/play a co-starring role as an arch villan! :rotfl2: NOW... I know this is a "where in the world" question - and I am perverting it from a "where" question to a "what to do" question / answer.... and some might take a dim view of it.... but it is all in fun and games, eh? And my approach is really the same except I explain the net result from a different POV. :rolleyes1
#2... What to do with $1M?
Alicia .... "She'd pay off our house note, then donate some, then she'd invest the balance" (hedge fund some - buy a couple shares BERK-A - then spread the rest around)
::MinnieMo Julianna said... "I'd save it!"
Tom said.... I'd invest the vast majority of it - and take a portion to retire some debt - help some of my nieces, nephews and extended family with modest strategic $ gifts - and give some to a couple preferred charities. Yeah... I'd also buy Berk-A (I want to go mix at the share holders' meetings and vote!) though I don't know about the hedge fund route. OH... I'd also buy some clay poker chips and start regular poker games at my place with marks...er, rather a few friends, neighbors and such (generally anyone with too much pocket change! LOL!) :rotfl: Heck... $1M doesn't buy what it used to anymore ya know! It can hardly sustain a modest NetJet membership with it! I'd rather have enuf for a gulfstream 4 fractional position!... but I need more moola piled aside!!
#3... All time favorite movie...
Alicia sezz.... "oh god... I'd say.... maybe.... I don't know... (husband interjects - "c'mon now").... " ok... Born Free and generally any happy comedy flics" :goodvibes
::MinnieMo Julianna said.... (without hesitation) .... Peter Pan... and Lilo n Stitch... and Mickey's Christmas.... and Star Wars.... and Agent Cody Banks.
Tom sez... "I like several... including... Ben Hur, Star Wars 4, 5, 3 (in that order), Alien and Aliens, Dark Star, All the 007 flicks, most of the Disney animation feature length flicks, Danny Kaye and Errol Flynn flicks, most of the Mel Brooks stuff like Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles, and much of Spielberg, Stanley Kubrick and some of Ridley Scotts stuff like Blade Runner and Gladiator. I know - it's not a ONE movie title answer. sorry for not complying... :rolleyes1
#4... Favorite TV show....
Alicia sez.... "... is there anything I watch? "....< long silence >.... "Yeah... it used to be Louis Rukeyser's Wall Street Week ... but now it is cancelled.... so I really don't follow anything."
::MinnieMo Julianna said.... Kim Possible (even though she's only seen a few episodes)
And for me (TOM) I watch all the Star Trek, DS9, Voyager and TNG (all Star Trek shows) mostly off DVD now - and I like most of the Sci Fi, History Channel, and Travel Channel stuff and usually I follow the PBS HD stuff only because it has some nice HD material. Plus I'm a nut for Blind Date and 5th Wheel... and Alicia watches with me though she won't easily admit it!
#5 What sort of Books do we like the read?
Alicia said .... investment and business
::MinnieMo Julianna said .... "I like to read kid books"
Tom sez.... "I read and reread history and old Sci Fi and Fantasy by the likes of Larry Niven, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tolken, S R Donaldson, and much more) ... plus for MAGAzINES and Magazine catagories I frequent Forbes, Fortune, Consumer Reports, various home plan magazines, Popular science and mechanics, kit plane (although I don't have a pilots' license), photography mags, and the car mags.

So... there it is ... laid out bare to the world! Out 147th posting.... and only 655 before approach Pogo's lofty record! I better hop to it, eh?

AND as a final note for the evening.... the NOAA 3 day rile map with long term storm prediction shows the South Atlantic storm hazard developing in yesterdays forcast has now completely disappeared. SO - at this time NOTHING is on the map to be concerned with! Woo - Hooo! :goodvibes

Here is the latest weather forecast for Cocoa Beach, FL for the days leading up to Embarkation...

We are looking good! Just the normal summer FL weather expected with just 5 days until we leave for FL and 7 days until the cruise.

BTW...Captian, we love the use of the "N" word! ...as in N-O-T-H-I-N-G !!!

Whoever said that Nothing is boring has no clue! Nothing is great when it comes to crusing weather!!! :cool1:

Yeah MickeyManiac, another Nora Roberts fan! I like the new trilogy as well and can't wait for Red Lily to come out. I think she has a new hardback coming out as well, too bad it won't be out before we cruise. I haven't read any of the McGregors, are they good?

WendyK, Danielle Steel books are the first romance books I fell in love with. Fine Things, The Ring, and Crossings are still some of my favorite books. What are your favorites?

My DH and I have also both read all of the Harry Potter books. We love the movies as well as does our DS who is 8.

Pogopossum, my DH shares your love for the Chronicles of Narnia. He is ready to take the kids to see the movie when it comes out.

Captaincrash, my husband loves Star Wars. I think his favorites are 5,4,3 so it is close to your list. My kids are also Star Wars freaks and have a scary amount of knowledge about them.

Um................actually there IS something out there......read on

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

THE NATIONAL *URRICANE CENTER IS ISSUING ADVISORIES ON ***RICANE
KATRINA... LOCATED OVER THE SOUTHEASTERN GULF OF MEXICO ABOUT 165
MILES WEST OF KEY WEST FLORIDA.

AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED ABOUT 900 MILES EAST-NORTHEAST OF
THE LEEWARD ISLANDS REMAINS POORLY ORGANIZED. UPPER-LEVEL WINDS
REMAIN UNFAVORABLE FOR TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION... AND ADDITIONAL
DEVELOPMENT IS UNLIKELY DURING THE NEXT DAY OR TWO.

A LARGE TROPICAL WAVE ACCOMPANIED BY A BROAD SURFACE LOW PRESSURE
AREA IS CENTERED ABOUT 1450 MILES EAST OF THE WINDWARD ISLANDS. THE
ASSOCIATED THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY HAS BECOME A LITTLE MORE
CONCENTRATED THIS MORNING... AND THIS SYSTEM HAS THE POTENTIAL FOR
GRADUAL DEVELOPMENT DURING THE NEXT DAY OR TWO AS IT MOVES TOWARD
THE WEST-NORTHWEST.

ELSEWHERE... TROPICAL STORM FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED THROUGH
SUNDAY.

And I cannot be booted off the island..........or in this case the peninsula (of FL) as I did NOT mention the H word...... :rotfl:

Ok all, I need some pixie dust and good vibes. I leave in two days, and I am having major dental issues. I've been to the dentist twice this week, and I may have to go back before my flight Monday (which would be cutting it close) I have a tooth that hurts alot- the dentist is blaming sinus problems and stress, he did some work on it, but if the hurt continues he's going to want to do a root canal Monday morning. I want a pain free, enjoyable vacation (without the aid of the Vicodan he gave me)
I could really use some positive thoughts, prayers and pixie dust with this  :worried:

Oh Mary, I hope your tooth starts feeling better. You definitely don't want to be miserable during the vacation. I hope you and your dentist get everything worked out. Sending Pixie Dust your way. :wizard:

Hey Lisa, when you say something is out there. Where exactly is there? I don't know where those places are that they are talking about. Do you think they could affect our trip? I sure hope not. Notice, I did not say the h word either.

Robyn

Mary- We're sending extra prayers your way. :flower:
Hang in there!

My TV is stuck on The Weather Channel. The way it looks now we could be flying over Katrina on Tuesday. Is that possible? Do planes go around it, above it, what! ugh :confused3

:rolleyes1 Oh well, HAPPY THOUGHTS, HAPPY THOUGHTS! I'm just sure once we get to Florida it will be smooth sailing.

Rachel

Please note: I didn't use the "H" word either.

I think its just coming off the coast of Africa. It will most likely form into a depresion within the next 24 hours. :wizard: Pixie dust that it doesn't! I don't want to leave my house if a ***ricane is coming my way. :umbrella:

I am having a packing issue! I do not have enough luggage! The pirate loot has all arrived and is taking up alot of room. I am having the plastic cups shipped directly to the ship and HOPEFULLY they will be waiting in our stateroom. I may ship another box with the loot and Skye's surprises out on Monday to the ship or just buy another piece of luggage. I haven't decided yet. Depends how frustrated I get this weekend!
My family has travelled to Europe for 10 days with less stuff!
I have a big bag, Skye's carry on bag, that we'll check and her duffle bag and a carry on for water and sugar free mixers and "incidentals"that we'll carry on. Then we'll have a back pack with our docs etc in it. Guess Curtis will just have to do with out some of his clothes to make room for the "loot"! :rotfl2:
Am I the only one having packing issues? :earseek:

Hey Guys!!

Anyway to find out if we'll be docking or tendering in St. Thomas?

Wendy

Mary....

.... you know... your condition is likely to be influenced by stress - so RELAX and surround yourself with your MOST ENJOYBLE things.... smothies, DCL DVD reruns (I have their promo DVD and I recorded a Travel CHannel show on the Wonder). Or... get out and go shopping (this always does wonders for my spouse). What-ever is usually fun and or relaxing for you close to home - go do it OR go lounge around and relax a bit!

Our Prayers and encouragement go out to you - unfortunately we do not have any dentist friends to consult for ideas. So I googled the key words Dental pain forum - looked at a few pages and this one seems to have potential info of use - check it out: http://www.dental--health.com/faq_painmolars.html

Aside from that.... LISA .....

Instead of packing or buying more luggage - how about a nice clean and sturdy cardboard box? We visit family during the holidays and we have the same problem and use a box for 1 way traveling gifts... plus if we had an empty piece of luggage on vacation my spouse would feel compelled to shop and fill it for the return home! SO - a disposable bos might do provided you have room in the trunk for the ride to the airport and you are not at your baggage limit for checked bags. PLUS - make certain the box does not exceed the dimensional or weight limits set by your airline.

PLUS... I looked again at todays NOAA Mariner's 1-2-3 rule map and nothing is listed as a new developing weather hazard. By the time we reach tuesday I would say we are entering the "clear" for embarkation day. Once aboard the Magic can sail around any existing weather hazards.

LISA.... I've looked for the weather front coming off of Africa. I'm sure one of the NOAA maps shows it - but I did not see it anywhere so far. SO = in my case..."ignorance is bliss"... for the moment that is. So... I'm going to invoke the "N" word again... and folks there's N-O-T-H-I-N-G on the latest NOAA map of developing cyclonic weather hazards (Blank map except for Katrina).

SO... MickeyManiac .... I would not be too concerned over any bad weather along your flight path as planes are pressurized to fly above the vast majority of adverse weather. The main concerns arise when you have to go up or land through annoying conditions.

Wendy: Our limited experience is the ship usually docks - no tendering. We've done one eastern and one impromtu storm adjusted Western sailing. :moped:

say... for what its' worth the 5 questions posed by Disney Fan was a fun little exercise. It got my imagination going a bit. AND just to keep things going I'd like to pose a couple of "mixer" questions:

What would you choose if:

:flower: 1) If you were able to Choose where the Magic would sail (with your family + 100 guests - all free) for say 14 days ... where would you send it.

 2) What's been your most memorable past experience(s) or moment(s) on a DCL cruise? Or if this is your 1st DCL sailing - substitue with your favorite travel or cruise experience. List as many as you like limited to ... say the top 3.

:groom: 3) If you could have any "job" for 1 year in the world - and be free to return to your present responsibilites afterwars if you wanted them... what job would you want?

;) 4) Do you have any pets? What are they and what do you recollect was the most psychotic thing your pet has ever done?

So - my questions are somewhat narrow and multipart - please do not feel compelled to comply with the scope or range of my questions - they are VERY general in intent.

- oops gotta run.... I'll be lurking until 2PM California Time today. :goodvibes

Thanks captaincrash, that websie was pretty helpful actually. I saw that there are people with worse dental problems than I have :rotfl2:

1) If you were able to Choose where the Magic would sail (with your family + 100 guests - all free) for say 14 days ... where would you send it.

Hawaii :sunny:

2) What's been your most memorable past experience(s) or moment(s) on a DCL cruise? Or if this is your 1st DCL sailing - substitue with your favorite travel or cruise experience. List as many as you like limited to ... say the top 3.
-Jumping into the Quiet Cove pool, fully dressed, slightly buzzed and on a dare on the last night of our first cruise, right before rebooking
-Watching my kids onstage during the Remember the Magic show
-hanging out in the corner booth near the DJ in Rocking Bar D every night

3) If you could have any "job" for 1 year in the world - and be free to return to your present responsibilites afterwars if you wanted them... what job would you want?
I want to be Tigger at WDW

4) Do you have any pets? What are they and what do you recollect was the most psychotic thing your pet has ever done?
No pets here

The ship will dock at Havensight, however, if there are more than 6 ships at a time we may be tendered in, but we've done this route 4 other times about this same time and have always docked .... Andy

Mary....

... you really jumped into the Magic pool fully clothed AND want to be Tigger? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: and my spouse thought I was a "looney tune" - I now feel much more comfortable with you coming aboard on Saturday!!!! :sunny:
