September 3, 2005 --- Who is going?

We're in! My monsters (DD 5; DS 8) have been adament that our next family trip be a disney cruise. I was reluctant because (I'll admit it!) I'm cheap and there didn't seem to be a clear way to save a reasonable amount of $$. Farting around during a conference call, I hit a site offering AD Military rates of $23++ for a cata 9. Wahoooooo! We're going and I don't have to feel guilty about the $$.

Can't wait to experience it with the monsters...it was going to be a surprise but I couldn't keep my mouth shut! I just hope that they love it as much as the parks...we shall see.

Any great advice? Any good prep ideas? Ways to build excitement???

As for DH, I'm certain that Grumpy was patterned after him and there is no way to get him in the mood...but at least this time I won't have to hear about his blisters.

Welcome omapcw1. I just sent you a PM.

salbythec: I've reserved 2 spots on the Sunny Liston tour, also. We're booked at 10 a.m.

captaincrash: I've sees some tuxes on formal and semi-formal, but in my opinion, I saw more suits/sport coats, guys without coats, and even casual dressers on formal and semi-formal. I may be wrong, but I thought tropical night was replaced by pirate night. On the Wonder last month, I noticed a few adults and children were dressed up in pirate attire.

Can't wait for Labor Day to get here.

OmaPCW1....

Welcome aboard! You just selected the very BEST sailng of the year for the MaGiC! LOL! I imagine you will find a veritable wealth of ideas and suggestions on these boards - but as a suggestion - if you have anything you want to sort of investigate then try the search button with a couple of key-words! Or - just post a new thread or ... ask us!

JanDave...

I guess my daughter saw some pix of other folks who sailed on the Magic and they were in tuxes. So she asked if we could dress up for the thing - besides - I needed a tux anyway. SO I ambought a white dinner jacket/tux and will give it a try on one of the formal nites - and the ladies will probably dress up a bit.

Too late to not do it - and I will probably have other occasions to try use it.

Adios! :wizard:

congrats to tina and family, but you're supposed to wait til you're aboard to get your cruise souvenir.

yes, pirate night has replaced tropical night, and a few of us were dressed in pirate outfits last year on our abbreviated cruise. they also gave out bandannas at dinner.

as to formal night, i have never worn a tux on board, did the coat and tie thing two cruises ago, and have taken to not bringing a coat with me, i'll do the business/resort casual thing this go round.

as far as a sign we will make one and i am laminating it at our church, with the magnet strips already attached so that we can make it bigger than 8 1/2 by 11.

"congrats to tina and family, but you're supposed to wait til you're aboard to get your cruise souvenir."

He/She was a souvenir from our anniversary trip to WDW, though...does that work??? :teeth:

Omapcw1: welcome aboard!!!! :boat:
I think you will find the following link helpful http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=460639

Pirate night: Pete and I wore pirate T shirts and eye patches. (and the bandana's they gave out at dinner) pirate:

I was hoping to convince Pete to wear a TUx but it looks like he may be wearing a suit. But we will see. :love2:

Welcome to our crew Omapcw1.

As for our excursion plans we are splitting up in the AM at St. Maarten as My DW and DD are taking the Butterfly Farm excursion with other members of our family and I am off (the adventurer that I am...LOL) to the 12 metre regatta excursion. In the afternoon my DW would like to visit a casino or two (due to casino withdrawl on DCL...ROFL).

On St. Thomas we are just looking at an island tour and some serious shopping.

We are planning on bringing full formal garb (gowns, tux, etc.) as we want to have our picture taken on board to use on this year's christmas cards (our family and friends have come to expect a "Disney" card every year). In addition to formal and semi-formal night we have reservations at PALO for both dinner and brunch. My wife and Aunt have also reserved Afternoon Tea.

DrCELL....

GREAT! On the formal attire ... I was beginning to wonder whether I might be the only one (of a few) who was going to have that sor aboard. I just bought a white dinner tux - but I am shopping for a black one too. I may not find one in time though.

On another note - I am recieving additional interest in sharing an internet account - so most likely we will form a 2nd group. Also - the cost seems to be $89.99 for unlimited use for ONE PERSON. So in theory - if someone were somehow "caught" they might be "questioned". The thread that spoke of this claimed that ONE of their cabin mates was caught and questioned. I can't imagine how that might be unless two or three folks were sitting together near an attendant (who is not always there) and speaking openly of sharing an account.

So - it is probably wise not to squeeze 7+ cabins' worth of users on a single account. Besides, I for one am perfectly happy to simply get the cost down to about $30 in a 3 way OR $22.50 in a 4 way. The savings is enough to buy a bunch of middlin' souveneers in the gift shop - or it's enough for 60 or 70 lottery tickets! Hahg!!! I'm actually not much of a compulsive gambler. Frankly - the saved money will ensure a slightly more generous gratuity potential for our cruise staff... so what goes around comes arond, eh?

At any rate - I look forward to meeting many fellow DIS families at the meet and we can sort of quickly divide into clusters of 3 or 4 .... or whatever seems reasonable.

So - is anyone else bringing formal attire? My spouse and I are bummed we did not catch on to the online Palo reserving capability. There seem to be NO slots on line now. Oh well - there's always a chance if we scramble a bit at the pier. :rolleyes1

Adios :cool1:

Captaincrash: I've used the Internet on the Magic and Wonder recently and never see an attendant, except for the first evening to help those getting started. There are 4-5 computer stations in the Cove Cafe and those are not monitored by anyone. No one can tell if you are sharing or not sharing an account.

Count us in still on sharing the use of the Internet.

:bounce: Hi all! I'm home again.........the Nick hotel was fantastic! :bounce:

DH will be wearing a tux unless he has changed his mind without telling me... ;)

Jan,

The issue is not that we can't all use the internet from one account but that only one of us can use the account at one time. If we had several of us trying to use the account at the same time only the first one signed on would be able to use the internet account.

It would probably be a good idea if we have more than 4 people wanting to share the internet to start a second group.

I broke down and paid to upgrade. Probably silly since there were so few rooms left but the verhanda was calling my name...and now I'll know where I'll be. The guar was making me crazy.

I'll be excited to see all of you tuxed up boys! I'll be lucky if I can get my hubby into a jacket! DS, on the other hand, made his first communion at easter and chose, of all things, the blue and white seersucker suit with white bucks and a bow tie (we're okay knowing we'll never have grandchildren). He thinks he looks like the "junior president" and will probably demand to bring his suit and wear it at least twice. (Please don't laugh out loud, it will only encourage him!)

For all of you experieced DCL folks, will the my princess want to bring any of her dress up gear? Do a lot of the girls? On our last cruise she wore a different gown everynight and would do the same here. However, the cindy costume made an appearance last night and I think she's dusting it off for the trip. Is costume formal a done thing?

Thanks for the links. I think we're getting excited!

Hello ....

on the internet thing - yeah - we can't all be using it at the same time - that is a given - and we usually don't have many attendants there - but that is no reason to avoid use - just that we should NOT have two of us chatting inside at the terminals openly about the sharing thing. Of course - we would NOT do that - but someone evidently did - and they had minor complications. Probably had to reset the password and notify everyone - then the person who was "caught" had to use the alternate site to log in.

Hey - we'll do just fine - we probably are beating this to death as it is far simpler than otherwise.

So - I'm shopping for a new computer game to bring along - as this will serve as one of my vacation diversions. I was at BEst Buy tonight and did not settle on anything yet. I'm gonna swing by Costco tomorrow to see what they have.

We're still shopping for travel gear - new swim-suits for the kids and such. I keep telling my spouse that I want to bring a huge beach umbrella - and she wants to just bring a tent-likt cabana. It sort of springs out to be a half tent and provides sun and wind shelter. We'll see who brings what - and we have to pack sand castle building gear too.

Omapcw: you've gone and done what I WANTED to do. But my spouse sort of suggested we wait and consider it a bit. Oh well - there's always the pier.

Adios. :jumping1:

Drcell01: Thanks, I meant to add that to my post -- that users sharing an account cannot be online at the same time. With 2-3 people sharing an account, times can be worked out. Meetng at the Promenade Lounge at 3pm will help us work out the groups who want to share an account.

Omapcw1: I noticed a lot of girls dressed up in princess outfits when we were on the 9/18/04 Magic.

Six weeks from now (6 am), I'll be in the Detroit airport.

Just for kicks, I ordered the DCL DVD last week. It came yesterday! I think we're going to watch it tonight. 100s of channels on satellite TV and nothing to watch! I've got my “Passporter”, Birnbaum book, brochure from the TA and this site... can you say OCD?

Noticed yesterday that they've added the "Exotic Rasul" to the Spa pre-booking selections. There were lots of spots available as of yesterday. So for those who want to play in the mud, grab the appointments before they're gone! DW & I will be celebrating our 19th anniversary while on board. Brunch at Palo and the Rasul should make for a great day! :love2:

For those of you thinking about getting a verandah, I’d say GO FOR IT! We had one on our first DCL cruise and one on our last day Celebrity cruise. Once you’ve had a cabin with one, you’ll always want one. This time we’re even splurging for a suite. Had to book about 18 months in advance, but the extra room will hopefully make traveling with the kids a little easier. We’re taking full advantage of the concierge services as well. Planning an in room dessert party for the Monday night with all of our favorite desserts from all 3 restaurants!

As far as sharing internet access, we won’t be using it much… maybe a few times during the week to send e-mails back to the office telling everyone how much I miss them :rotfl2: and to the kids’ grandmother.

Just wondering also about boarding time. Since the repo cruise is right before ours, does anyone think we’ll be delayed?

Just had to get my fix for the day…

Hi All....

Welcome Omapcw1...:wave2: You'll love the cruise and the verandah. As my husband (DisneyDadJax) :cool1: said you will never want to be without one!!

Congrats Tina...a new little person!! My sister is expecting a baby any second!!! Hopefully it will be this weekend. Boy is your life going to CHANGE!!!

Is anyone else feeling the pressure!! So much to do, so little time. I have been collecting and putting aside things for packing such as the boys matching shirts, disney hats, clothes I don't want them to wear and wreck before the cruise, etc. This weekend begins our tax free back to school shopping, so I will hopefully be able to fill in the gaps such as dress up shoes for the boys, sport coats for the boys, etc. I am really getting excited, and living with DisneyDad keeps us all in perpetual "Cruise Ready Mode". I guess tonights featured DVD at our house is "Disney Cruise", I'll bring the popcorn honey!!

I think the sign thing is a great idea...hope someone in my house makes one. I think we should make one for my mom and stepdad. That way they will be able to find their cabin more easily.

OK everybody...keep planning and keep posting. Time is a ticking!! :hourglass

Speaking of the Rasul...Does anyone know what the spa policies are for expectant moms? I'm not sure of the restrictions. I have a Dr.s' appt in a few weeks, but I figured I'd ask here too.

Thanks,
Tina

Wow, I have some catching up to do.

Welcome Omapcw1 - My DH is USNR. We were supposed to be cruising in November but about a month after we booked my DH was told the Navy may come calling again in the fall. :rolleyes2 So we hurried and rebooked for September. Now it's so close I'm sooo glad we did.

Mom2boyz2000 - I don't know if you have a Kohl's in your area, but they had great prices on boys suitcoats. They were clearanced plus and additonal 50% off. You may be able to find them online :confused3
I wish my DH was as OCP as yours. He just sits back and lets me tell him all the great things I've learned on the Dis. He's pretty easy going and knows I'll handle it all. Oh well, atleast he's fun when we get there. In the meantime I have DS completely worked-up and excited. :jumping1:

Lisa702 - Did you get a cabin number yet? Maybe you are getting one of those fabulous upgrades. Here's hoping!!!

Travelling in my group is me: Rachel, DH Ryan and DS11 Alex.

Since we are doing a short trip to WDW prior to the cruise, we just hit the 30's. We leave in 39 days!!!!!! I can't wait.

Can anyone give me an idea of what kind of temperatures to expect both in Florida and Caribbean. I know the humidity will be sky high. I live in the desert so the humid part takes some getting used to, but it's been 105 here almost everyday I'd love to cool off a bit.
