September 29, 2012 - Ropin' Some Magic in the Western Caribbean

No problem about changing room numbers! Some people might even have a change when they board. That is why the Dismeet at 3 p.m. is so important...so we can find out the last minute changes. Plus it will be fun to put faces to names!

I haven't been on the thread much so I missed when the meet is.....3pm on what day?

Everyone, please print out your own FE list. Also, don't forget to bring it to the first day meeting in the Promenade lounge. That was you can make any changes needed for room numbers. I will also have a list posted outside my door (cabin 7638) so people can check there for changes.

I'm going to add to the trip report later today. So far we only have 3 posters. Please feel free to join in and post about your preparations and post a picture of your family if you wish. The more people who join in, the better and more complete report we will have!

I made the kids their Mickey countdowns last night. They were sooo excited. If only I knew how to post post the pictures.

Not a whole lot dressed up on the 3 night, but I've heard that lots of people do on the longer cruises. I believe Disney also gives pirates in the caribbean bandanas out at the pirate dinner so those and a little eye patch or something would be really easy for little kids. My son is 14, but he's going to wear black shorts with a white T shirt, some sort of bandana and an eye patch...and maybe a black vest. It will be "pirate-y" but still using pretty basic clothes. My daughter and I will wear black skirts with white blouses. We add a red sash around the waist and maybe one as a head band.

Not 100% of the people will dress up though. I think some people just wear a pirate T shirt or something simple like that. pirate:

We are some of the people who don't dress up. Pirate night is just not our thing. Well, Connor loves it, but the last two cruises we had a set of parents with us so we went to Palo that night and Connor still go to enjoy it with his grandparents. This time, we aren't doing Palo dinner so we'll be in the main dining room. I usually just bring Connor a pirate tee shirt and he wears the bandanas they give you. The Shutters folks come around to take pictures so we have seen some really great shots of the people who do dress up. Also, Captain Jack will be out for photo ops and it does look cool when the dressed up people get their pictures taken with him. Pirate stitch is also there for pictures.

I joined in and posted! Hopefully I will actually keep up with it. :) Thanks for reminding me about the FE list - I have to go put my cabin number on it.

I just realized when I went on to add my cabin number that I signed up for wristbands, but I haven't paid for them. Can the person in charge (I can't recall who it is) let me know how you want payment (check, paypal, etc.).

Thanks much!
Michele

I have been on a lot of cruises but this will be my first Disney cruise. I was just wondering if Disney offers discounts for booking your next cruise while onboard the ship. I know that all the other cruise lines do it but have never taken advantage of it.

Does anyone know if they offer a discount for booking your next cruise onboard. If so, is the discount worth it? How much do you have to pay when you book onboard?

Yes, they do. I think it's a 10% discount with either $100 or $200 onboard credit. (depending one the length of the cruise you book.) I've never done it, but I just read something about it the other day. You might try looking at www.themouseforless.com or www.mousesavers.com. I think they both have info on it.

Disney does offer a 10% discount on cruises if you book onboard. You also generally get onboard credit and a discount on the deposit. :thumbsup2

yes - half the deposit is due when you book, so 10% of the fare. Additionally 10% off of the cruise fare is deducted for most rooms, just excludes concierge. All bookings get the OBC, and as mentioned, it varies depending on the length of your cruise and your return cruiser status.

I think we are just going to do the beach breaks at GC and Cozumel...daughter is happy as long as there is water... at Costa Maya was going to stay on the boat or do some shopping until I found a link to this...

http://www.sandalsandskis.com/Tropicante.html

no admittance fee?
$2 per person taxi ride?
$2 Coronas and tequila? (I can't drink anyhow but if I could....)
$25 for an hour long massage?
able to reserve tables/chairs on the beach?
count me in...

So might skip the $66 per person Cozumel beach break and shop there instead... Anyone know if there is decent shopping for souvenirs in Cozumel? Was going to shop in Costa Maya but free vs $66 per person (well okay daughter would be $49) is kinda more appealing :P

Thanks for the info on this! We just emailed them and have reserved our loungers w/an umbrella!

Just chiming in...we have a 9yo homeschool boy too :-) Love how many homeschoolers we have this time! Guess it's because schools are just going back and some people don't want to pull kids out for a week?

We are homeschooling this year. DD is in 1st grade. We started last week and having a great time. My SIL homeschools her two as well.

Mine is starting Kindergarten... so instead of pulling her out for 8 days, only pulling her out for 5 since she only goes 3 days a week. Starting to wonder if we are the only ones that DON'T homeschool on this cruise :P

We don't homeschool either. I was feeling the same way though. :) We have pulled my son out of school every year since he started kindergarten (he's now going into fifth grade). It just works out better for us- we usually go the week of his birthday in November, but we got such a good rate this cruise that we switched it up.

We're pulling our kids out of school too. They'll miss 3 full days and 2 halfs. Honestly, in the whole scheme of things, I doubt missing a few days of school will ruin them for life. Unless, it gets put on their permanent record :rotfl2:

We have to pause our cruise planning and FE making day tomorrow. :worried: Why? ISAAC...... Oh please oh please stop moving west immediately! So sorry Florida, but New Orleans doesn't need ISAAC. (and neither does Galveston!!!) I guess we'll be on pins and needles for the next 48 hours. Yard cleaning day tomorrow. Still no cruise documents either.
