OK, so now you guys got me checking car rental prices - which is OK since that's about the only thing not yet taken care of!

Anyway, Thrifty has an office in Cape Canaveral but they're offsite at MCO so you need to take a shuttle. Also, I plugged in the dates and was getting very expensive prices (~$90). There was a good discount code on mousesavers (W81011) and an intermediate with all the taxes and fees (1 toddler seat, no insurance b/c that's automatic on a gold cc) was $59.

Thanks ibela, for the info about the Thrifty shuttle and location. :thumbsup2

I just went and tried all the Thrifty codes. Budget is only a tad more expensive ($4) for the arrival date ---and it's on airport property. For the last day of the cruise, I wanted to rent from 10:30 am on Oct 6 to 4 pm on Oct 7. We're going to stay over one night at a disney resort. I tried Budget and Thrifty and I'm getting anywhere from $73 to $91 for the rental Oct 6 into Oct 7 !??
So...what I decided was this......on Oct 6, rent from Budget (I have an intermediate for $48.66 total if I drop it off at the Downtown Disney location by noon on Oct 7(@Doubletree Hotel). Then I'll just use Disney's ME to get us back to the airport for free.
It's weird....I got a great car rental rate for Sept 28 into Sept 29 ($49.20), but the return rental back to the airport is double that rate ? I'm also getting high airfare for that day ? Why is early Oct so expensive anymore ?

OK - this is going to drive me bananas - which code did you use for Thrifty rates similar to Budget?? My quote rate was ~2x!

It's higher on the return trip because it's Columbus day weekend so they're probably showing holiday rates.

Hi ibela,
For Thrifty, I tried :
AU11 prom and 004M001010 corporate

For Budget, I got the best deal using : BCD W810011 both ways. But keep in mind, I'm dropping the car off at Doubletree instead of MCO on Oct 7. If I opted to drop off at MCO, my rate was like $90.

And I totally wasn't thinking about Columbus Day......this explains it. Though it's not a school or work holiday here ? I guess it is in other parts of the country ?

That's weird b/c I'm in NJ and it's a work holiday for us . . . :confused3

Hi everyone! Just trying to read the few pages that I missed.

JD: we stayed at the Arizona Golf Resort, I think it's in Mesa. We flew back yesterday and now we're off to vegas for a couple of days. I forget what spa we went to in Chandler, but the owner said that jay mohr (spell?) frequents it. It was soooo relaxing. and then we went to the Grand Canyon.. beautiful!

We haven't seen Pirates yet 'coz my DH (3) is scared :scared1:

4 more months to go!!!!! :cool1:

Ibela,
I think the only thing closed here are banks and post offices. Are you a government employee ? If not, you are very lucky and I guess different states do different things. Are the schools closed in NJ ? Are you in north or south Jersey ?

Me and dh both work for banks (not retail/branches, back office) so we're both off. When we initially made our reservations I asked if he wanted to extend it a few days and come back Sunday or Monday, he said no. Last week he says "how come we're coming back on Saturday?"

And we're in Central NJ, about 1hr 15min away from my family in Phila.

No off day on Columbus Day for me and I work in Manhattan... Seems like today, with the trend for less 'holidays' at the office, a lot of folks are not off on Columbus Day.

Hmm, I work in Manhattan too . . . I think it's a Bank holiday but not a Stock Market holiday, so I guess it depends on the industry? In any case, plenty of recuperation time for me! :woohoo:

Columbus Day weekend. We get back from our cruise on a holiday weekend!

Dh is a Navy Contractor so Columbus day is a holiday for him. Me and Target, nah. No paid holiday for me, and no time and a half if i did show up to work.

Who's got good places to shop for Pirate night clothes? I'm looking to see if there's anything we might want to wear for it. Skull & Crossbones shirts are abundant but I'm hoping for something different or more pirate like. I have cowboy boots that I'm thinking of bringing. I probably will cause they go with another outfit i'll likely wear to dinner our first night.

OH FYI: We have 2nd seating for supper. Forgot to mention it b4.

Nope. No Columbus Holiday for us here in Florida. Schools are opened, as mentioned previously, only banks and government offices are closed. Darn it!

Maureen, do you have an IParty or Party City by you? These stores have quite a bit of pirate stuff now and of course as it gets closer to Halloween they will be stocking up with costumes galore! pirate:

We're wearing Pirate shirts on Pirate night-not costumes. Although, I may get DD one of those Pirate sets that have the toys (eye patch, etc.) only because she is a huge fan of the movies. (She takes after her Mommy and after you meet us, you'll agree!) ;)

DH had emergency surgery yesterday to remove his gall bladder. We were supposed to see the 10:30 showing of Pirates but instead, we went to the ER. I joked with DH that he'll do anything to keep me and DD away from Capt Jack Sparrow! Hope everyone had a Happy Memorial Day!! :hippie:

And just noticed, we are at the 4 month mark - exactly!!

JD,

Hope hubby feels better soon.....but how dare him have an emergency...when "POC" was on the big screen!....men they can be so in considerate...just kidding.....I really hope he feels better and that everything turns out ok.:thumbsup2

We are gonna "mock" dress up in "POC" tees and camo capris for me and camo short for the fella's...i can't get them to do the matchy/matchy thing so it's black shirts with different designs, but i think with bandana's and some accessories...we will look "festive" enough..:dance3:

I am not using any promo codes and I got $25.84 per day (+10 dropoff fee) for full-size pickup at MCO on evening of 28th and drop off in Cape Canaveral by Noon on the 29th. I got $36.49 per day for full-size pickup at Cape Canaveral the morning of Oct. 6 with dropoff at MCO the same afternoon. Taxes and fees are additional to these prices.

My first reservations back in February were substantially higher but I've been checking the rates every week or so and have cancelled and re-booked about four times now at better prices. The name of the game is to keep checking until you get the lowest prices.

Octoberbride,
I'm hoping the Halloween stuff will be out right before our cruise. Heck, around here, they start phasing summer stuff out around the end of July and stocking fall stuff. So fingers crossed.

JD, I really hope your dh is feeling better soon. Luckily this didn't happen right before the cruise. Not that there is ever a right time for it to happen though.....

You are getting low rates phred, but you're also keeping the car less than 24 hours and that makes a huge difference. My rental are for longer than 24 hour periods. I noticed as soon as I put the times in under and slightly over 24 hours. It's like they charge for a whole extra day just for a few hours over 24 hours. I am purposefully dropping the car off early on Oct 7 at the Doubletree and using Disney's ME because they wanted $90 if I drove the car to the airport and dropped it off at 4 pm. I drop to half that amount by dropping it off around 11:30 am at Doubletree. We don't mind taking the disney bus to the airport if it's free. But I will keep checking the rates and any new codes that might be released.

OK - This was budget or Thrifty? We may go with Avis now b/c we got a good rate by calling Costco, but this seems less?

JD- sent you a PM but I hope your dh is feeling better. Not that it's ever a good time to happen, but better now than Sept.

Not pirate costumes but I have a white shirt that looks like it kinda laces up in the front so I figured that's close enough. I didn't think to check Party City, we have one nearby so I'll check that out too when I get a chance.

We heard that rates are higher from the port to the city all the time because they have more cars available in the city to meet the need and not as many available at the port. Seems people bringing in cars would balance out those taking them from the port but apparently that is not the case and they have to make special trips to get cars at the Port.
