September 29, 2007 - Magic

Anyone else doing this. This past week, at work, they gave us little goodie bags and inside was a "mini" Uno deck of cards. My immediate thought, "Oh cool! We can play with that on the plane to Florida!" Came home and threw it in the bag of Disney things I've been collecting for the kiddies. Last summer, I started hitting the dollar spot at Target and I buy the Disney goodies I think my kids will like. I want to put together back-packs of stuff for them to get them in the mood on the flight. (Not that DD will need much encouraging. She wakes me up every Saturday morning asking, "Mommy? Do you want to go on the Mickey Mouse boat with me?") Even DH ordered his Pirate shirt, which was totally unexpected. All but one of us have Pirate shirts now and they're sitting on a chair, waiting for the blessed event. Anyone else have piles of "designated DCL stuff" started? With the weather warming up, I have to start buying the kids summer clothes thinking to size them big enough to wear on the cruise. Good times!! :cloud9:

You sure are planning ahead. I have a suitcase of stuff that has been on cruises before, some of which may go on this one. Whenever one of us needs a suitcase we have to take one of the others.

My Mom used to buy stuff ahead like you are doing and then dole it out little by little on the trip when we needed a diversion instead of giving it all to us at once. I thought that was a good plan so copied that with my sons.

Just wanted to say happy Monday (and bump us to the first page). I almost always see the 9/22 and the 10/6 groups ahead of us so I figured I'd do my part. :cheer2:

Thanks for the bump ibela ! :thumbsup2

I, officially, probably won't pack for the cruise until about 48 hours before. I love the adrenalin rush from power packing ! :dance3:

Anyone planning on going to MNSSHP the night before the cruise. Disney recently released the dates and Sept 28 is one of them. I think we might go.

A little late after everybody else posted theirs. But here's Dh and me outside the B&B we stayed at on Chincoteague last July.

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

Its great fun. Dh and I did it on our honeymoon.

1 more question....... is this held in the parks? We're going to be in FL 3 days before our cruise visiting my DH's cousins.. maybe we should check this out. Or maybe not, my DD(3) is scared of halloween decorations:eek: , even at disneyland, so we avoided going to the park until the halloween decorations were taken down. princess:

Its in the Magic Kingdom. The decorations only come out for the party. Mostly its stuff beamed on the walls. With a great parade led by the Headless Horseman. BUt if your DD is scared of Halloween I don't know that the party will change her mind.

Sue ! Maybe we'll see ya there on 9/28 !

This will be our 4th MNSSHP. We always enjoy ourselves.
Here's some more info Groovychc :

It's a hard ticket event held usually from 8 pm to 1 am. You can enter the park any time after 4 pm though with your MNSSHP tix. There are special fireworks....trick or treating....photo ops......Main Street is totally "spooked" up with special purple and orange lights and fog. There is music and sound effects (like wolves howling), piped in. We first took our kids when the youngest was 6. They weren't scared at all. It's nothing like Universal's Halloween nights.
Here are some of my very amatuerish home videos taken with my Kodak dig camera on MNSSHP this past Oct 5, 2006. Each clip is maybe 20 seconds. Hope this works because I've never posted videos on the DIS before. Just click on each image for a short video clip :

Octoberbride---love the pic ! Thanks for sharing !

Thanks for the info guys. I think we'll skip it this year. I think my DD will still be scared  so I won't force the issue.

Hello Everyone!

I am back from my very first cruise...the Carnival Ecstasy. Since this was my first cruise I had no idea what to expect and it was a lot different then what I expected, but after I got a little more used to it and realized it was ok to relax and do nothing I had a great time but unfortunately by then it was time to go. It was fun but I don't think it will stand a chance up against my Disney Cruise !! :cool1: I will try to do a mini trip report later just wanted to catch up and say hi.

Ohhh and I still feel like I am on the water, when does this feeling go away?

Tonya

Welcome back Tonya! Would love to hear more about your cruise. Now that you know what to expect from cruising you will be ready to enjoy your DCL cruise from the minute you step onto that beautiful ship.:thumbsup2

I had the feeling that I was still on water for a day or two or three...one time it lasted almost a week. It was really annoying. Last couple of cruises I didn't have it at all.

Well, my computer is finally working enough to get caught up. Welcome back Zane Anthony. I'd love to read a trip report to compare Disney to. Have a great day everyone!

Welcome back Tonya! Were you the one afraid of water? If so, sounds like you managed just fine. Would love to read your TR if/when you do it!

Welcome back Tonya !
How many days were you on the sea ? I think it took several days before we all stopped feeling the rocking after our 7 night cruise. Looking forward to the report.

Welcome back!!! I can't wait to hear your "report" about your first cruise.

I don't think we'll be able to do the Halloween thing before the cruise because it will be rushed with us flying in the day before and all. Now I'm watching air fare like a hawk to get our plane tickets purchased soon! After that, I have to book a hotel room for the night before the cruise and the night we'll stay before flying home on Sunday.

Octoberbride-Lovely pic!! :) Glad to see you were able to finally get it up there!!

Weekend in Vegas was very busy and didn't allow for any exploration of the Strip. Most of the time there was devoted to the wedding. Fun thing is, DH and I get to go to a wedding in CA in two weeks and run around like crazy again! Good times!! We kept hoping our friends would settle down and get married but we didn't expect they'd do it 2 weeks apart!!

I think it is funny and kind of like it--it is a reminder that I HAVE BEEN ON A CRUISE!

Best I can figure, our brains make accommodation for the movement of the ship so that when the ship goes down, our brains signal up and when the ship goes up our brains signal down, so, as a result we don't notice the waves as much. When we get off the ship the brain is still on the cycle of ups and downs but the land is not moving. Pretty clever of the brain to accomodate like that!

I bought ours a while back (couldn't take the obsessing anymore) and now Jet Blue's came out (well, a couple of weeks back) so they're good (we're going on Continental, got Jet Blue prices which have since rose so I'm happy with the price we paid). Did you check Hotwire for the hotel? I checked a few days ago and it was $46 for the night before (3*).

ANY exploration? So there was no gambling or shows? Guess that means now you have to plan ANOTHER trip back! Have a good time at your other wedding. And welcome back!!
