Hi everyone. I just found this thread. I have been reading the main discussion boards for months but have been remiss on checking the cruise meets section.

28 Sept will be DH and my first cruise. We will be doing the adult only thing like some of you. We are leaving our DD6 with grandparents. Will be the first time away from her!

A bit about us - husband is retired AF and stay-at-home dad. I am a family practice doc which keeps me pretty busy (was former AF - that's how DH and I met). We live in a rural part of VA. We love Disney (are DVC members).

Can't wait to meet you all! (this was my first post on the DIS boards - husband is the veteran poster).

DH and I are also flying solo (without kids) and it is our 1st Disney Cruise too.

If you didn't read all the posts, we are planning a meet on the day of embarkation (Is that a word and did I spell it right?? ) at the Mickey Pool at 1:00. I have ordered us lime green wristbands so if you would like one for your DH and yourself, meet us there.

Welcome sleepydog25! That is great you are taking a solo trip without DD. We have only done that once, but not to Disney. We went to the mountains for a weekend. It was great and very relaxing! Hope to see you at the Mickey pool!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm the actual sleepydog this time. . .lol Wifey's (Doc) hours are very long, so it's usually me on here.

We've left our daughter alone overnight twice, and she has spent the night at Doc's parents a few times (they live in the same town as we do). So, the upcoming trip sans daughter will be the first long trip without her. She's as excited about that as we are the trip, I think.

We're looking ahead to the cruise with much anticipation. It will give Doc time to relax and unwind from the non-stop work week she puts in. We both enjoy dining out and sipping nice wine, so Palo's and the wine tasting are two definite destinations for us. We're not planning on getting off the ship at Nassau, opting instead to do the spa thing. Can't wait. I think Doc mentioned that this is our first cruise, though we've been to WDW a few times, always staying at VWL. Love that place. Anyhow, we're looking forward to seeing all of you there. 6 is a great age to leave. I am stressin' about my one and a half year old daughter. My son, who is 4, will be no problem. It's actually really starting to wear on me. I am so nervous about it. Maybe because she has been sooo sick this past week. She was up until 1 am last night screaming because of, what we hope is tooth pain, and not ear pain.

I just think of everything that we have to go through on a daily basis with the two of them and I worry about the Grammies handling it. Now granted these are people who raised us with not a lick of problems - so logic would provide that all will be fine..............but I am nervous.

My DW and I will be staying onboard during the Nassau day as well.
We plan taking a Rasul ( or suiral) spa treatment and doing the wine tasting too. Hopefully DD7 will be happy in the OC for a few hours

I'm sure we'd be nervous, too, under the same circumstances. And there's almost nothing like your child being sick to make one scrutinize every decision. However, you make a superb point that the Grammies can handle it. Sometimes we tend to forget just how adept they must have been raising their own. As for Doc's folks, it has been great having them so near. We moved here four years ago, and every visit her 'rents made, they kept saying how much they loved it. So, we convinced them to move! I can't say enough wonderful things about how nice it is to have them close. And Princess loves to spend time with them, so I think we're all set. Don't know which one I'm most looking forward to: the spa treatment, the wine tasting, or Palo's. Hmmm. . .

Here are all of you leaving your children behind, and I offered to take my 2-year-old granddaughter with me, but my daughter wouldn't let me! She wants to be with her for her first trip to DisneyWorld, so I've already got us booked for next May. Not trying to make anybody feel bad - I can remember those days of desperately wanting a break from the kids. Mine are 19 months apart, which I wouldn't recommend, but it happens!

Blue Monday, anyone? (That was a Drink of the Day on my 7-day cruise 2 years ago...)

I hope everyone is healthy by the time we set sail! My then-husband once cruised with an undiagnosed ear infection; thankfully the doc on board was able to get him some meds and it cleared up quickly. But until I finally convinced him to see the ship's doctor, he was miserable!

I'm hoping some of the restrictions for carry-ons have let up in time; I always took juice boxes on the plane for my kids to help with the cabin pressure changes. Just a little tip from experience...

RABBLE ROUSING?! Oops, I mean rabble rousing? COO. . .!, er, cool. . . I like rousing the rabble. . .but not mutinously. . .

Lucky for us, we're driving. Well, if you call lucky a 10-hour drive. . .but that still beats flying in my book these days.

Agree, gazer, do get better. Nothing worse than trying to rouse the rabble extraneously when you have your own rabble-rousing going on in your system.

Heck, I'm COUNTING on a good mutiny

Anyone else planning on bringing your own liquids on board?
Since we'e flying and going to WDW first, we'll probably but some spirits and a case of water while in Fla then pack them in our checked luggage before embarkation.
We'll be at Port Canaveral early ( taking my 24 yr old stepson to the airport. He's going to WDW with us, but not the cruise), so does anyone know if there is a grocery/liquor stor near the Port?
Also does anyone know how early you can buy liquor in Fla?

There's a Publix right on A1A, right down from the port. There's also an ABC liquor store right there on A1A also. If you have a car, I would think Publix would be open pretty early and they have beer and wine. ABC is where you would need to go to for liquor.

I am not sure. I want to but we fly in ver, very late the night before and I think we are all shuttling over together - whether we make a stop or not has not been discussed with me.

I guess I need to start thinking about this stuff...........

If you can wait until we get to Naussau, there's some CHEAP alcohol there...Last time I went, they had my favorite Kool-aid wine (Raspberry Riunite - sorry, wine afficionados, but that's what I like!) at $2.99 - buy one, get one free! That's right - 2 bottles for 3 bucks! But I do like the idea of bringing bottled water. I may have to shift my suitcase a bit - I fly in at 10 a.m. then shuttle to the port. Time to refine my packing list! 5 weeks and counting!!!

We'll have top leave WDW by 7am or so that morning to get my Stepson to the airport, so that means we'll probably be at the Port by 9am.
I'm hoping to get that #2 boarding pass!

So driving to Publix is probably a good idea.

I assume we'll get a case of water, a 12 pack of beer, and a bottle of vodka or rum.

Riunite Royal Rasberry was my "wine" drink of choice when I was in College. I was in a band and when we practiced, the guys would all have Jack Daniels or some other cheap hard liquor. I'd have beer or an ice cold bottle of RRR

I was a severe goober.


Thankfully, now that I'm a "man", I drink for taste rather than for inhebriation.

Now my DW, that is another story........
