September 22, 2012 Fantasy Eastern "From Fantasyland to the Fantasy"

What do ya think we'll do this time? Turtle Cove was so much fun and Trunk Bay was beautiful! I guess we can look into the Coral World helmet dive thing or snuba... or maybe we can try to get a group together and do something really cool... I think someone recommended a really cool boat captain who does private excursions to you... didn't they?;)

I remember linking through another link and another link to get to a trip report about something with a private captain in St. Thomas....but do you think I can find it now? Can you share more information? Would love to find the blasted thing again...can you link me to it again? :confused3

I am 90% certain we are thinking Bernard's Tours in St. Maarten, for a quick island tour, and Maho, and maybe the Urchin man and some pastries! :thumbsup2

I have been on just about every mickey mouse clip art sight and The four shared sight. I just cannot find a mickey mouse dressed in an Army dress unfoirm. My DFB SERVED IN THE ARMY AND i would really love to have mickey on my stateroom door. He got me through a rough 2010. It would also be in honner of sister who also served. I would glady pay for a disign thanks:sad1:

I'm just curious when the Fish Extender list will be opened? I'm anxious to start picking up presents for everyone :) Thanks!

I have one in mind, Thomas...I'll take a peek around for the link but I'm not sure if it's the same one that was posted before. I would love to get a group together to go on a trip with him in St. Thomas. My friend Ellen uses him whenever she is down in the VI (once or twice a year and it looks absolutely amazing!!!)

Thank you I didn't find a mickey in an army dress uniform but i did find two that will work. Just thinking about the september eastern caribbean cruise makes my day. besides the weather man here in centraila is saying we have a chance of the white stuff snow:woohoo:

Ahoy Mates,

Just a little note to let you all know that we brought my mother home today. She has been at in the hospital/rehab since Oct. 7th. For the most part she is doing pretty good, but still has a long way to go. As of her going on the cruise it's still in the air. My sister and I however would have to be on our death bed to miss this cruise.

Thank-you everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

I checked out the TR, and was in heaven when I found JVD. DH and I were there on a Disney cruise, and it's been our dream to get back. Love, love, love the Vanilla Painkiller at Soggy Dollar.:drinking1:beach:

I'm just curious when the Fish Extender list will be opened? I'm anxious to start picking up presents for everyone :) Thanks!

Well, there's no time like the present! :thumbsup2

Below you will find a copy of the information I will include in the first page under the Fish Extender tab.

fesignup.jpg

Here are the basics: If you wish to participate in the Fish Extender exchange, please send me (nenner1) a PM with the information as requested. If you are in a GTY status, just indicate such and PM me back as soon as you receive an assignment.

I will maintain our FE participant list via Google Docs. It will not be editable, however, please send any corrections or change requests to me in PM. Please give me 1-3 days to update the list upon your signup or notification of corrections/additions. :thumbsup2

I have set a tentative signup deadline of August 22, 2012- this is one month before we sail. This will give me enough time to finalize the list and prepare a "Treasure Map" of the deck plans and FE room locations.

Should the list grow to a point where it may become unmanageable, I will certainly entertain discussion to split it into groups. We will cross that bridge if and when we come to it. ;)

I will also post links to information on Fish Extenders in the first post under the Fish Extender tab. Feel free to check these out for gift ideas, how-to, and basic info.

If you have any questions at any time feel free to ask me via PM, in the thread or on Facebook.

Happy Gifting!!!

Jen:goodvibes

Paul, I am pleased to hear that your mother is home. I hope that she continues to recover and we will be blessed with her presence next September. Lois

Jen - ignorant here but what's JVD?

Paul - so glad to hear your mom is home and recuperating. Hope everything goes well enough and she is able to join us.

So, my vacation travels for 2011 are complete. Two DCL vacations in one year - what more can I ask for!!!!

I completed the Alaskan cruise on the Wonder in August. This was a fantastic trip that I would definitely recommend. Of course an added bonus was spending a short time in Vancouver which we thoroughly enjoyed so I feel sorry for the people in 2012. This was a nice family group (me, my mom, my oldest son and his wife - DDD cruisers will remember Dave and Amy - along with Amy's parents and her twin sister). We encountered some unexpected issues with this trip. My mom came down with a viral infection about 3 weeks before. She could barely stand up and walk and had no strength. Even though she started to feel better, her strength was lagging and she started talking about not going. We squashed that right away and commandered a wheel chair from a friend. I checked and found that all of the excursions I had booked allowed for a collapsible wheel chair so we were good to go. It was an experience traveling with someone in a wheel chair (good and bad) but DCL was fantastic. Several times I came back to the ship (just me and her) and with the gangplank rather steep, they immediately had two CM's come out and wheel her up for me. She ended up having a great time although she admits she prefers the warmer weather but did not regret seeing Alaska - just a bit too cold for her!!

Then just a few weeks ago (late October) I completed a 4-day Dream cruise along with 4 days at WDW. This was my immediate family group (me, Dave and Amy, and my youngest son - his first cruise ever - and his GF - her first DCL cruise). What can I say - the Dream is a great ship! She's definitely bigger and alot more complicated to manuever around. Nothing is a straight forward walk. In fact, we were in an AFT inside cabin (FYI - LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the virtual porthole) and started down that hallway when the cabin doors on the right disappeared. There was still a hallway straight ahead but no cabin doors on the right. So we had to make a right turn, then a left, then a right and then another left (quick little turns) and we end up in a small hallway with about 5-6 cabins on the right (inside). Kind of like our own little area. It was nice as there was no one opposite us when we opened the cabin door. Another example is when we came off the aft elevators in the adult area, you could go right and go past evolution, wind around to 687 and through the District Lounge and finally out to the hallway leading to mid-ship. If you turned left, you went past Skyline and either out to the deck or then right to Pink, going through pink to the District lounge the hallway to mid-ship. Very interesting! We did miss the intimacy of the Magic/Wonder.

Looking forward to seeing the changes on the Fantasy!!!!

I can certainly say that we would be interested in a tour with Thomas...but it all depends on cost. I am trying to teach more classes and sub as many classes as I can to get some more mickey money!

Also thanks for the information on the FE. You mention a tentative date for closing the sign up...any chances that you would close it earlier? I'm planning some homemade things that will take some time and a month has me a little worried! I know on my friend's cruise they closed it the same time as final payment? Still trying to save up the funds to make those craft projects happen too, so I won't sign up until later when I am sure I can commit, but just curious.

I officially have DCL fever. It's no coincidence that the rumored float out for the fantasy is on my anniversary and the maiden voyage is on my birthday, right? She must be meant for me. :rotfl:

That will be so cool, the day we start the cruise is my birthday isnt that cool?

I know all of the ins and outs of the passport issue, so don't flame me for our decision... :rolleyes1. Dh and I have them already. We were not planning on spending the money on passports for the kids, and just using birth certificates. In talking with dh tonight about nenner's charter idea, it occurred to me that I read in one of her links about her friend having to clear customs. So, will birth certificates work in that case? What about passport cards? Are we going to have to get them full passport books in order to go on such an excursion? Sorry about my ignorance...

I used to be a Passport clerk and even so I'm not sure. I'll be honest that I haven't carefully read Ellen's TR yet so I don;t know but I can ask her.

If in fact we do have to clear customs or meet with any official entry/exit officials in BVI/Tortola on an excursion full Passport Books will be required. Passport cards and Birth Certificates are not enough. It all depends on how Thomas handles his excursions, we've been on one in St. Maarten where I'm pretty sure the guy takes ppl to Antigua without Passports so that must be "under the table" so to speak. Will have to do some research and I'll post back what I find out. We dont use Passports either!

As far as FE I am certainly open to closing it up earlier. Whatever works out best for the group, I doubt anyone already here would have any issue with that. We can also handle latecomers that wish to participate in a different "group" so to speak. Lots of options, :goodvibes When would be good to close it? :thumbsup2

Melodie JVD is short for Jost Van Dyke on the British Virgin islands..beautiful!:goodvibes

That would be awesome. I'll be interested to hear what you find out. As infrequently as we cruise, and especially as infrequently as we would EVER bring the kids on a cruise, the $200ish dollars for a passport is just not something that I want to spend at this point. I know it's a gamble, but at the same time, that's $200 more dollars I can spend on the Fantasy! :) Anyway, lots of questions from my end and LOTS of time to get things figured out. Thanks for your expert advice and tolerance of a "mostly" newbie.

As for the FE, I really have no clue! My only frame of reference is my friend who closed theirs at final payment date. I will certainly go with the consensus too, as I'm not one to ruffle feathers. Lots of time to figure out things on that front too. :)

I thought passports were only $135.00 Still that's a lot of money I got my pasport last july 2010 when they were only$100.00 With the rules changeing every day it is so hard to be sure of the rules. I was only going to get a passport card because i live in washingon state and my DBF has family in canada, but i decdied on the passport. For the EF i would check out the fe postings i had on ideal wat they were until i did. They are holders for the gifts that our group exchanges. Hope that helps. I 'm really starting to hate my lap top. If it isn't good itmay stay home:confused3
