So my family and I went in late January/early February this year. We are planning on going again. Initially we have booked for 9th September 2023 for 8 days. But then I heard about hurricane season and have been nervous about flights being cancelled etc. So my question is should we move it until January 2024 or keep our current booking and risk it?

Hi, I live here (about 80 miles west of WDW). Hurricanes could happen and Sept is the peak of the season. It could or not be an issue but understand why you don't want to risk it. Living here, I personally have gone on cruises during season. It just depends on your level of comfort of risk. There's no way to predict if and when a storm will come near FL. But I will say, if you are flying into MCO, the center of the state rarely gets "hit" with hurricane force from coastal storms. Rain, wind, yes. Complete shut down? No. Living here for 26 years, I've only known WDW and the Orlando area shutting down completely for a storm 2 times.
If you come in Jan, try to avoid MLK weekend as the parks are usually slammed.
The weather is normally better in Jan but don't expect crowds to be down.

I would recommend September! We went in January this year as well, and thought the weather was terrible. We were there for two weeks - the first week was sunny and 70 degrees (perfect!) but the second week was raining and 40-50 degrees and it was miserable. You will see rain in September, but only for short periods of time. The Food and Wine Festival is also one of the best!
