September 2012 roll call

22 sleeps here!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

I keep checking the Air NZ site to see if they've posted the movies yet but no.... :(

Andona

just checked...nope....no sept yet

hoping they keep season 7 of american dad.....havent seen those yet:thumbsup2

dont forget, Air new zealand does NOT have OLCI........so you have to do it in the flesh:faint:

crazy

I will not be worried about Isaac (that's what I told my DH anyway).

He sms'd me this morning, my reply?
"I am not worried about it"

In my head I'm going  but he doesn't know that...

It is what it is...

Luckily it looks like Isaac won't be too much of a problem for Orlando...
unfortunately it looks like it could hit poor New Orleans again :sad1:

Tonight DH and I have been discussing what we will do if the city is badly affected and we have to drop it from our route... I really hope it's OK cause I really want to see New Orleans .:worried:

For those of us hitting Florida in a couple of weeks or so I'm watching the two storms boiling up in the Atlantic behind Isaac. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo_atl.shtml
Luckily at this stage the NHC doesn't give them a high probability of forming a bad Tropical Storm or Hurricane. Fingers crossed they're right!!!

11 sleeps here!:cool1:

Finally booked an ADR at PCH Grill for brekkie. Told The Grinch it was for the kids. I've been making a list of offsite places to eat as we are sandwich lunchers and have a condo so we will make our own breakfasts. One son wants Bubba Gump as he's obsessed with prawns since his trip to Sydney. He even demanded a bag of prawns at Paddy's Market instead of a soft toy. :rotfl2: So we will be having eats at Bubba Gump or the like, too bad if Mum is highly allergic to fish and seafood!:headache:

Fiddling around about kids shoes for Disneyland. I think I'm going to buy them some Crocs when we get to the US. One son has finally accepted he's not going to troop around in gumboots. Can you imagine visiting Disneyland in gumboots in September?

We fly into Orlando in a few days and my poor mum is worried about us after watching the news last night. Although I am a worrier normally I am surprisingly calm, assuring her that it will all be over by the time we fly in (Sunday our time) and anything can happen anytime anywhere (we live just north of Christchurch and know all about that sort of thing!) I don't mind if another one comes up while we are there, as long as we get there.
Have been reading also about the increased seismic activity in California, we have a night in LA on way over and 4 days in San Fran at end of September. But life's an adventure right???!!! :)

Fingers crossed you still get to see New Orleans Androna.

About the California seismic activity - my sister who knows I am paranoid about earthquakes (I couldn't sleep all night our one night in San Francisco) kindly pointed out the earthquake cluster to me yesterday, and offered to go on the trip in my place. Not going to happen, but it's given me something else to stress about, as I tend to worry about everything that could possibly go wrong this close to a trip.

as long as andona doesnt start watching the weather pirate:

16 sleeps ladies:cheer2:

Oh dear...sorry Karen but I'm now a regular visitor on the National Hurricane Center website!! ;)

Actually, although I have this scary power to destroy currency we usually have the opposite effect on weather - we've generally been pretty lucky ( and yes I'm touching wood while I say that...) :thumbsup2

17 sleeps :yay::yay::yay:

Karen you need to do a poll! Any excuse right? I've never been to Texas so I'd take that option.

Being inland, Orlando usually escapes the full force of the hurricanes, but every now and then one gets that far. What Orlando does get is the rain fall out from the hurricane. It just means you need many more rain ponchos in your bag than you think and you need them in your bag before you get to a park, they are expensive in the park. It's not too bad - it can mean rather than just an afternoon downpour it rains all day, but if you have a lot of light weight disposable rain gear and suitable foot wear, it's amazing how much does stay operational in the parks. There is a reason September is low season!

It does look like Orlando is going to get quite a bit of rain from Issac.

Remember that, on Air NZ, you can start your movies as soon as you get onboard. So, if there are lots that you want to watch, board as soon as you can and get settled in so you can start watching your movie while all the slow pokes get themselves settled :thumbsup2 It does get paused quite a bit in the beginning as all the announcements are made by the flight attendants but it's still worth doing.

Ahh, That's excellent! It answers a question I was thinking about yesterday. It's the same as the Virgin Australia system then ( and better than the QANTAS one!)

Thanks TRavelMum :thumbsup2

in 2010 we were there for a tropical downpour the night of our MNSSHP....the wind and rain was amazing...alerts thur the state etc re bad weather....

so at 4pm that arvo its torrential..we rock up at 8pm MK, the stars are out and the water has drained away.........crazy....

the parks are built to deal with lots of rainfall.....amazing how dry everything becomes.....

fingers crossed that its the same this year..but hey, the more it rains, the less crowds to fight for space mountain:dance3:

so our plan is
pool in the morning (hardly rains in the AM)
parks arvo/nights

:wave2:

I've been a bit naughty and not posting in here as I should be, its all getting close and exciting for everyone now!

We depart 18th for DLR as a party of 6 Adults and 4 kids (2 x 4yos and 2 under 2) I am stressing about what and how much food to pack for the baby. (1yo) Its my first OS trip so long haul is new to my and DH and all exciting but daunting at the same time.

The 4yo will be fine, he will (hopefully) have tele and the ipad and maybe I can distract him from screens with activity books although he is a tech head in the making!

I hope Isaac passes over and those with travel plans in the area are kept safe.

I've not travelled with a baby before, you're brave :thumbsup2
You'll have a great time though, no doubt about it.
DL is awesome! My DS still raves about it, we took him when he was nearly 4, such a great age for them to experience it :goodvibes

my advice..pack for every contingency

extra clothes, toys and food....expect nothing from the airline re the kids and you'll be right. Also make sure you pre board, so let the gate attendant know you have a pack of kids....they will board you with first class and you can be settled before the angry hordes.

Also pack twice the amount of food needed for the kids as their may be delays, diversions or they are just hungry.

Also, sign EVERYONE with tickets up for the frequent flyer program on the airline you are flying if i havent already told you this before....

is baby a lap baby, or does she/he have a seat? take extra blankets to pad around the seat arms so you can lay her across your laps to sleep..share the load. You will not be able to use the bassinets (too big) or the floor (safety and its grotty)for her to sleep...

ears will ache for them when landing and taking off, so a bottle or lollies are great for this time.

wet whipes are a must.....and please resist the urge to change the nappy on the tray table or on your seat, it freaks the other passengers out, and really its just bogan...ask the hostie for the toilet with the change table, their will be one available.

plan ahead, and you'll be fine:thumbsup2
