September 2011 - We are going to Disney World {THIS MONTH}! (Third Thread)

We just pay for gas/tolls and that sways it enough that two times a year is not happening anytime soon.

Just had to share my "DH is a changed man" story.

Usually, I am the money miser of the two. He will buy lunch out and I will tell him exactly how much he could have saved if he brought his lunch. He sighs and tells me he works three jobs, he should be able to buy lunch out sometimes. At which point I relent and tell him that is true. So last night he asked what was for lunch today. I told him I forgot to buy bread so he should just buy something. He seemed bummed. I said to him "You usually want to buy lunch, what's wrong?" He said "That was the old me. New me wants to save as much money as I can and get back to Disney!!" :cloud9:

LOL Love it. This last trip totally changed my hubby too. I couldn't believe he suggested we go back in January. He always liked it before but something just switched on in him during this trip. it's awesome :cool1::banana:

When you buy an AP you start down a slippery slope. You say we have an AP so we need to use them to get our money's worth so we need to book more trips. We are going to be here 4 times on this AP cycle with about 30 park days. Coupled with DVC and our other timeshare our out of pocket is airfare and food. We're addicted but don't want an intervention.:rotfl:

HAHAHA excellent point :rotfl2:

Question - How do I link a TR into my signature but change the words? Trying my first TR..

Question - How do I link a TR into my signature but change the words? Trying my first TR..

Copy the address for the TR, then on the signature box, click on the blue planet looking link. Paste the address in the box. After you hit submit (I think), it will go in the signature box and an area will highlight blue. Type over that to make the title.

I'm thankful not to have to worry about transportation in March, it's just get on the charter bus and go!:thumbsup2 For our February 2013, I'm going to be stalling cheap airfare; an hour in the car or eight in the car doesn't seem like much of a contest!:rotfl2:The car's fine for the trips when we'll be staying longer, but not for the long weekends. We lose too much playtime that way. We generally try to make every birthday important, but we've weighted the 13th some. My oldest DD has a July birthday, so she chose Myrtle Beach when it was her turn, but picking a big celebration is harder when it's super cold outside.:lmao: I imagine Florida will be way warmer than South Carolina in February, so it's a great excuse... I mean, opportunity...to see the Mouse!

I have a question for DVC folk!

Over the past few days, my interest in DVC has peaked again. We are eyeing 25 point contracts on the resale market, just so we can get something to supplement our current vacations. We are not in a rush.

So my question is: has anyone gotten on mailing lists for the various resale brokers that are mentioned here on the DIS? I don't mind checking their websites periodically, even though I understand their mailing lists can sometimes alert you to a contract before it is posted online. I'm just curious if it's worth it or not. Trying to decide if their newsletters are simply "more of the same" than what's found online and if it's worth giving my personal information or junking up my inbox.

Thanks!

we are home. the last of the group to come home. 13 wonderful days at WDW. It was the best trip we have had. I think I found the right amount of days to go. We ended our trip with a meal at Cinderellas Royal Table. Great way to end a trip

Welcome Home!

13 days sounds amazing :cloud9:

I know the characters are great at CRT, but how did you like the food?

Welcome back!

CRT is still one of those meals we are waiting to try!

We got back last Sunday from a fun-filled trip full of new experiences. I haven't been on much because this week has been so hectic. We already have our dates picked out for next year and I can't wait to go back.

We did MNSSHP for the first time. It was fun, but not as fun as I thought it would be. Maybe because my oldest came down with a fever the night of the party and fell asleep in the stroller by 9:30 despite our efforts in trying to keep him up. Candy lines were really long but moved fast. We only got pictures taken with the Queen of Hearts and a few others and the ride lines were nt exactly walk on, which was disappointing. I am glad we tried it once. I don't know if we will do it again or not.

We went to La Nouba at DTD. It was a lot of fun and really good. Our kids were mesmerized the entire time. Food and Wine was great. So much food and so little time. There were more people than I expected overall, but I think it's because we picked the weekend of a holiday, the opening of Food and wine, the 40th weekend, and marathons, so that will do it.

I ran into a co worker I didn't know would be there. Looked up at Akershus and there she was with her family. Too funny...but I didn't see any Disers. I was disappointed. Thought I would at least run into one of you. It was a great trip....wonderful weather, great company, lots of fun. Can't wait to go back. Already have new things planned.

I had the vegetarian plate. It was good. My DH had the Fish he said it was good. We are mostly vegan eaters and will eat fish on occasion.
Overall my favorite place to eat was at Citricos. They had the most flavorful vegan dish.
MNSSHP was a blast. we were there Sun evening. Watched the parade twice.Stayed for fireworks. It was cold by the end of the second parade so we left. We did the candy, lines moved fast. Best of all I managed to get a pic of the headless horseman. sheer luck.

Food and Wine was crowded everytime we were at EPCOT. Food lines were not as long eariler in day compared to diner time. Weekend, week night crowd level seemed about the same.

That's good to know about CRT and Citricos! I was a vegan for a decade and am now a vegetarian. I've heard about some good vegetarian and vegan fare at Kouzzina's too. I have to branch out more!

Hi Everyone
We got back on Monday the 3rd after 2 great weeks. We went to 2 of the MNSSHP's. They were both very busy. The one on Fri (Sept 30th) was sold out. The parades and the fireworks were wonderful at both of the parties. The lines for characters and candies went quickly and the attractions weren't too much of a wait, if any at times. The dance parties were fun.
We were at MK on Oct 1st and it was crazy in the morning and in the evening. We took a break in the afternoon and went back in the evening to see the parade and the fireworks. Both were spectacular. We stayed until midnight and did a few attractions.
Overall, we had a wonderful time and enjoyed some great days in the sun. Unfortunately, it seemed to rain everyday afternoon after 3, or at least clouded over. The rain didn't stop us any and we went to DHS one night and almost walked on to some of the attractions.
We enjoyed the free dining at POP. The chefs were wonderful. I am on a gluten free diet and I couldn't believe the dishes they prepared for me. I just wish one of those chefs could have come home with me. ;)

I have to share what happened with Disney today...

Most everyone knows by now the DM ended up in the hospital, but I don't think I have told (on here) about a couple of amazing CMs.

Last week, I emailed Disney about those amazing CMs.... here is what I wrote...

"Our recent visit to WDW did not turn out as well as expected, due to
health issues not anything wrong with WDW. But we had a few exceptional
highlights that I would like to recognize. On the evening of Sept. 15th
my Mother and myself were dining at Cape May at Beach Club and needed to
return to our resort of Port Orleans Riverside. As Mother was using her
motorized WC we opted to take buses rather than drive (we have issues
loading it without assistance). We waited at the bus stop to DTD to
transfer to a bus to our resort. It was around 9:30-10:00 (don't know
specific time). The 1st bus came by and unloaded a dozen or so people
and it was us and a family of 5 at the stop. The bus driver told us that
he already had a scooter and the bus was full so he would call for
another bus. I did notice that some seats in the back of the bus were
actually empty and not a lot of standers. About 10 mins later another
bus pulls up but was fuller than the 1st. However, this driver said he
would try and see if he can get some passengers to move so he could get
us on. HE DID! By this time my Mother was not feeling very good and
really needed to get back to our room. When the bus arrived at DTD, the
driver informed us that he would take us straight to POR and we wouldn't
have to transfer. He switched his route for us and that was great!!!
When we arrived at our resort I tried to tip him, but he refused it
saying it was part of the Magic! I did not get the bus number nor do I
know the exact time, but I know his name was Mike! We really would like
to send him a Thank you, but don't know how to contact him. The very
next morning, I had to call 911 and my Mother was admitted to the
hospital with heart issues. This was our last Disney Moment and he made
it magical. We were to check out on the 17th and our tickets for the
16th went to waste.. And on another note... I was lost and upset when my
Mother ended up hospitallized... no money for a place to stay. The
on-duty manager at the resort extended my stay a couple of extra nights
relieving my burdon some. I would like to Thank both of these that
helped us out of bad situations."

Today I got a reply that made me cry....

"Dear Ms. Durbin,

Thank you for contacting us regarding the Walt Disney World Resort.

I am very sorry to hear of your Mother's illness during your recent
visit and truly appreciate the time you took to share your compliments
for Mike and Agata. Your email reinforces how our Cast Members can make
a tremendous difference with each Guest. It is heartwarming to know that
Cast Members such as them exemplified Walt Disney’s dream to create
happy and memorable experiences for all of our Guests. Please be
assured your comments will be shared with the appropriate leadership so
they can be commended for the great service they provided you.

In addition, since you were unable to use one of the days on your
tickets I have made arrangements for you to pick up two complimentary
1-Day Magic Your Way Base Tickets on your next visit."

I cut off the end... which just told us how to get our tickets.

:wizard:

Shhhq - That was some pretty sweet magic. It is amazing how many of the cast members truly love their jobs and it shows. Even more amazing when a guest takes the time to thank them after returning home. Good on you!

I agree. I'm glad you were able to receive the help you needed, when you needed it, and it's nice you took the time to tell them so!

Shhhq-

I am glad that they accommodated you and you recognized awesome CM work. My mom ended up in the hospital a year ago while we were at Disney also. She had chest pains and has a heart condition. We were taken by ambulance to the hospital. My husband was with the two children, strollers, bags, etc. A man named Dave from guest relations arranged taxi service for me from the hospital and paid for it and they sent a personal van to Epcot to take my husband and kids back to Kidani. It was a great feeling that everyone was Rajendra care of. I wrote guest relations as well and Dave personally called me back to tell me thank you for the comments. My mom also didn't use three days of her tickets and they arranged tickets for this past trip for her. It was great. Hope your mom is doing better now and on the mend.

I am truly sorry about your Mom as well, glad to hear they took care of you as well.... and that she was able to return. We would still like to send thank you cards, but never got an address or full name to send them... thinking about mailing them to the guest relation person that handled my email and asking that they be forwarded to the proper persons.

My Mom is doing much better than she was.... still needs to use her oxygen, but is almost her old self. However, this trip was scary and a wake up call to us both.... we are scared that she should not be taking such long trips away from home. The actual trip getting back and forth was very hard on her. She will have to stick with trips that are of shorter distance... at least for now.
