September 2011 - We are going to Disney World {THIS MONTH}! (Third Thread)

For everyone that's making it a surprise - any great ideas on how to "break" the news?? This is the first time I'm doing a surprise - I tried once before, but ending up telling the kids 2 weeks before. This time it's a birthday surprise for my middle son, and my current plan is to pick him up from school that day and just say "oh, by the way, we're on our way to the airport - to celebrate your BD in Disney World!"

But, I'd really like a better way - maybe a letter from Mickey or just something more fun

WEll, this is my first attempt at a surprise to Disney, so I'm hoping I can get pretty far before she figures it out.

We are thinking of telling her we're flying to watch a hockey game in Flordia( my DH is a huge Tampa Bay Lighning fan) and just before we turn to under the welcome to Disney sign, we tell her that we have to stop to visit a couple "friends" first. Then SURPRISE!!!

What do ya think?

Wow - that would be awesome if you could keep it a surprise until then! There's no way that would work for me - the only times he's ever been on a plane have been to go to WDW - in fact, my youngest thinks that's where every plane is goin! (as in, when he sees a plane in the sky, he says "aw, they're so lucky - they're going to disney world!).

Maybe I'll try to give him clues, and see if he can figure it out...

Am I missing something super important here? Are they going to need the card I booked my trip on for online check-in, and when I get to the hotel too? Are they going to run it? The card I used has to make the payments has been deactivated, so this is super bad news for me. I had intended to not take any of my cards with me, and just charge a cash balance to my KTTW card! I don't like even having my cards on vacay, I'm weird that way!

I just did my online check-in and they asked what credit card I'd like to use so that one doesn't need to be the same one you've been using to make payments. HTH!

Also, I read the Terms & Agreements for online check-in and this was in it: "Neither I nor any member of my party occupying any resort accommodation have/has any intention of making, and will never make, this resort accommodation a legal domicile or principal dwelling. My/our legal domicile is and shall forever be outside the Walt Disney World Resort."

Awwww...I guess I won't be moving in any time soon!

Thanks everyone! I have been getting text updates from DH hall day... all week really.

Our plan for the suprise is just to drive into WDW and watch em freak out! We have told them we are going to the beach (which we are, after Disney so it's not too much of a lie!). That is how we are justifying this lonnnggg drive.

I just did my online check-in and they asked what credit card I'd like to use so that one doesn't need to be the same one you've been using to make payments. HTH!

Geez, really? So, they want to make sure you don't claim Squatter's Rights?I can see it now: "I claim this spot in the name of Vanessa! From here on in, Space Mountain will be referred to as The Big Rock Candy Mountain!" I guess a whole lot of people really never do want to leave!They definitely have covered all of the bases!

We did this a few years back, I gave my DS a card with Mickey On the front and some cash inside that this was his Disney spending money!!!!!! It was awesome (have the camera ready!)

So what did I do today???

I made a Mickey wreath for fall!!!

Complete with little hidden Mickey's....

I love fall...I can't wait to be back at WDW with all of the fabulous fall decorations!

I've spent all day packing, cleaning the house, and getting the pets ready for Granny to care of them while we're gone. All I've got left is baking up a batch of cookies, taking a shower, and relaxing!

I know the main road the leads to and from our neighborhood is still flooded out. They also lost two bison from the zoo america at hershey park. they got caught in the flood waters and they had to put them down so they didn't suffer because they couldn't get them out.

people are FREAKING out about the Bison and calling Peta (of all places) and just being jerks but I think the zoo made a good statement yesterday about why this happened. sometimes a tragedy is just a tragedy and there is no blame to be placed.

I heard people were freaking out about that but come on PETA? uggh, some of those people (not all of them) drive me NUTS! Those poor zookeepers had to have been a mess to have to do that, they are probably almost like family to them

I am new to the DISBoards and I love all the information here.

SO we went to the mall today to get a backpack (http://www.underarmour.com/shop/us/en/search/pid1217557-PTH-174-Victory-Backpack/1217557-001&FSR=1) (which I did), but we also made our way to the Disney store. We got shirts for the boys, one for the way down and one for the MNSSHP. I also got one for myself for the way down and the MNSSHP. I was going to get one for DH but he didn't answer me when I called....so just another excuse to go back ...lol

Super cute wreath, basketkat! I too have a lot of things I should be doing but am not doing. At least I cleaned my house last night since I had a friend over this AM. I am wondering now if packing 3/4 of the stuff a week ago was a good idea because now I don't know if something is already packed or still needs to be packed!

I'm also thinking ahead to DD's Mickey Mouse Club (oldschool) themed birthday party that's on Oct. 8th. I am getting 8 Mr. Potato Head mouse ear hats with our parts at DTD to give as favors to all the kiddos. DD plays with those Disney MPH parts almost every day and I think we might need to get the BIG plastic head of parts again.

We're staying at a hotel near the airport the night before since we have to check in for our flight by 4 am and it's an hour away from where we live. So, my plan is to pick up the kids from school. Tell them I entered a contest on the hotels website and won a free night stay which had to be used that night, thus the reason we're going somewhere on a school night. Going to tell them we're going to a waterpark the next day since we're probably not going to make it back for school on time anyways, and that their teachers are good with it since they're still basically doing review from the previous year. THEN, when they go to sleep, I'm going to set the clocks ahead so when our alarm goes off at 3 in the morning they won't get suspicious! They'll probably raise their eyebrows when we go outside to get in the van and it's still pitch dark but I'm hoping I can just brush it off until they get in the van. Then, I'm putting invitations from Mickey and the Gang on each of their seats in the van! I'm hoping to video tape the moment but hopefully the hotel has bright enough outdoor lights so I can catch their reactions clearly!!! I got their invites from Mickey from this amazing DISer.
