September 2010 Check-In

I still fully believe that WOC will be added at some point and details are still being worked out. Only time will tell.

Sadly, looks like we'll be wthout another ride:

Doesn't look promising that it will be back anytime soon.

Bummer!!!

The blows just keep coming---if they close anymore rides, we might have to reschedule our trip!!

Dang. One of my favorites! :(

If they close Mr. Toads or Casey Jr. I'll be REALLY upset.

Now Casey Jr. would be a big world of hurt for me. It was closed for a lengthy refurb. during my trip last September and so we missed it. Alice getting shut down is such a bummer too though. Is anything going to be open when I'm there, lol.

Last year so much was closed while we were there! This year most of those things are open for most of the trip (thankfully). My daughter is thrilled that she'll be able to ride Space for most of our stay. I really wish they'd open Toy Story since Alice is going to be down. That sounds like a fair trade, right?? :confused3

Belle Ella - Sorry, I need to change my dates. We are now going Sept 16th-22nd (still at Hojo). Excited to get to see the Space Mt overlay! :woohoo:

Well, at least there may be a ray of hope. Outside of Al Lutz saying it was shut down by Cal/OSHA there's nothing to confirm it. And I have yet to find any documented case of anyone being injured due to the outside vine portion of the ride so I don't get why guard railing would be necessary. Al Lutz isn't infallible. But the ride has been closed for a few days and we haven't heard a peep from Disney regarding it. Someone on Mouse Planet is reporting that it was not shut down my Cal/OSHA and should be back up in just a couple of weeks.

:confused3

I will be there with my DH, DS5, and some friends the 3-6th as I run in the Disneyland Half. We are staying with my friend's mother :D Sooooo excited!

Way to go!! I'll get you added to the OP. Do you want me to list where you'll be staying?

OK, so anyone who will be there at any time from the 23rd to the 27th - would you be interested in a little mini-meet?

:rotfl: I'm being an idiot today. For some reason I can't read. I didn't think you listed where you were staying so I was going to ask you which hotel. Now I see ;) Awesome when you get to stay with friends and family of friends.

Bumpies! We're getting closer to August which will be one month away! I'll actually be making my very first PS tomorrow! So excited.

The park hours calendar doesn't show fireworks on Sept 10th weekend...

aren't there always fireworks on the weekends at DL??

The entertainment schedule is starting to get a bit more fleshed out. Still no word on the biggies (Aladdin, WOC, fireworks), but Billy Hill and High School Musical have been added.

Things are moving in the right direction- and it's good to know that the schedule truly is still a work in progress!

For those of you worried about Alice being closed in Sept., I did a little research.... Not being a real fan of Al Lutz, I decided to find some more info on the subject :) The LA Times posted an article this morning regarding the closure. They confirmed that OSHA did not mandate the closure of the ride and spoke with a Disneyland official who said that it was a preventative measure and that they plan to have the ride back up and running in the next few weeks. So, it sounds like that is at least one attraction that those of us with Sept. vacation dates should get to enjoy :thumbsup2

Here's a link to the article:

I posted these tidbits elsewhere, but I thought I'd throw them in here as well. After all, our little thread had sunk to the bottom of page 2!

1) Alice is listed on the refurb list through at least 9/17- that's as far as the calendar went as of yesterday. Clearly Disney has a longer definition of "a few weeks" than some of us have. No Alice for me this year. :sad1:

2) I know that info from Al Lutz is rumor and nothing he says is set in stone. However, he's often on the right track. Don't plan your life around this, but he posted this WOC info today:

7/24: As summer rolls along, World of Color's popularity is growing by the week, DCA dinner sales are huge despite the weak economy, and Fastpasses are selling out earlier each day. With all that good news, Team Disney Anaheim is getting very close to entirely banishing the 6PM weekday closing times in the off-season that DCA has had for the past decade. Later this week TDA should give the final blessing to year-round 8PM weekday closing times in the off-season, beginning this September, with at least one World of Color show performed daily on weekdays at 8:15PM. The weekend hours at DCA this fall will offer at least a 10PM closing with multiple shows per night. In the meantime, TDA really needs to get the reservation agents at the 781-DINE line to stop telling callers that World of Color gets shut down completely after Labor Day and goes "seasonal", as nothing could be further from the truth. There's got to be a better way to phrase that. - Al Lutz

Here's hoping for an official announcement sometime this week.

Oh, I'm hoping this is true! We're going to be at DLR for 8 days and hope to see WOC at least ONCE! Guess I'll be one of those annoying tourists that calls every few days in the hopes something opens up soon!

I'm kind of hoping they DON'T have weekday showings when we are there. I'd rather have lower crowds and no WoC.

I have to admit I agree...I was sort of hoping to have a quiet, WOC-free day over in DCA. Now I'm hoping that weekday mornings will still be quiet. I just want a few hours of calm before the evening storm!
