Did you try calling them directly? I did that with T-Rex since it is not Disney owned and was able to get a priority for exactly when I wanted.

I am having a really hard time because its a DDP restaurant (which I didn't know) and as I said, I really didn't have dinner plans for our arrival night. Then just recently my BIL and my uncle both decided they would meet us in Disney for the night for dinner and such. UGH!

1) Once they cancel, how long before it opens up in the system to be booked?


2) If it's a large party cancelling, does the Disney system allow a party of 4 to book, thereby leaving a table open for a party of 5?

It depends if the party of nine was to be seated at a large table then it won't show up for a smaller party. If the system put them at two tables then it would come back with smaller party availability. Try checking for 9 people and if it gives it to you then you know they had one large table and the availability won't be split up because two tables are not available only the large one.

Just to follow up. I got the number and called PH directly and they would not take a reservation directly. They told me I HAVE to use the WDW reservation system.
