Failing that I'll run for a passport renewal... but I don't wanna give up my old passport as it has too many fun visa stamps from the places I've been.

Oh well....

Here is the good news on that front - they don't keep your old passport. They punch a hole all the way through it, but they do give it back.

You need a government issued photo ID - NOT expired, and government issued proof of citizenship. They should accept your expired passport as proof of citizenship - just like they accept a government issued birth certificate. Mexico has been accepting the expired passport along with a driver's license for a long time. It is technically up to each airline or cruiseline as to what they will accept - they are the ones that pay the HUGE fines if the don't adhere to US government requirements. So, they might get fussy and make you get a BC if you don't renew your PP.

I have seen a couple of people turned away from DCL with expired passports. In most border crossings, they aren't accepting them any more.

I'm on my way home!!!!!!!!!!!
Our dispatcher just sent us a message (we are in Hotlanta) and told us to bobtail (which means driving with no trailer, just tractor) HOME!!! WooHOO! I get to pack and unload all of the stuff I don't need out of this truck! And I get to sleep in MY own bed tonight and wash my clothes in MY own washer and dryer instead of crappy truck stop ones! We have to leave out @ about 9pm tomorrow night, but I"M STILL EXCITED! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

On a seperate note...

a question... do we really NEED to sail with passports? I just found out mine expired and now I have to use my drivers license. The DCL docs say I need DL + a birth certificate. Well... I don't have a BC handy and would rather not push an expedited passport renewal in under 14 days till sailing. I was going to call DCL but was assuming they were out for the holiday. So here I am... hazard in hand sharing my potential doc complications. I know passports are required after Jan 7th 2007 for carribean cruising - but NOT now. I vaguely recall folks just needed a drivers license... but I always used my passport so I don't really KNOW. :confused3 Anyone KNOW the "deal" on this?
You must have either a valid passport OR a birth certificate with a raised seal on it and a photo ID (driver's license for adults).

Good Morning Campers….

Bummer about Steve Irwin, trying to figure out the way it happened. I teach a First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life class. Sounds like he got hit in the chest, most Stingray injuries occur on the foot and lower leg.

Will work on the Fish Extender gifts today….

Hope all have had a great weekend, 4 work days this week and three next week. This is a good thing.

Scott,

The article I read said he was stung just below the rib cage and the barb pierced his heart.

As TOny said as well as some countries will not let you enter if the Passport will expire in 6 months or less.

I'm gonna call DCL or another CL to enquire now. If I need a birth certificate I think I can get it in 3-5 business days. Bummer that I missed the cut off on age for same day documents with walk in service. And the cost looks to be $17-20 or 22. SO if that is the case it is cheap. Failing that I'll run for a passport renewal... but I don't wanna give up my old passport as it has too many fun visa stamps from the places I've been.

Oh well....
Your old passport will be returned to you, it just has a hole punched in one corner of it to show that's it's no longer valid. I'm up for my second renewal next year, at which point I will have my name changed to the married moniker. The renewal application is printed out and attached to my laser printer, just waiting to be sent in with a copy of the marriage cert. My cruise reservation is in my maiden name, but I'm bringing a copy of our marriage certificate just in case it's needed.

Hey there, Captain, when I renewed my passport a couple years ago, they returned my original passport to me with the new one. I didn't want to give mine up either, so I was happy.

Technically for travel where a passport isn't required, they can choose to accept an expired passport instead of a birth certificate. A birth certificate is required to obtain the passport in the first place. A passport is proof of citizenship.

The photo ID HAS to be current and issued by the government, to identify you. The second requirement is the proof of citizenship. A birth certificate (government issued - no photocopies or hospital copies) is proof of citizenship. Not every state has a raised seal on their BC's - some have a watermark. Do not panic if you don't have a rasied seal - but make CERTAIN that you have the one issued by the goernment - not a copy. A passport (even expired) is proof of citizenship. When not expired it is the photo ID and proof of citizenship all in one.

A note for women who changed their name at marraige - you also need a goernment issued copy of your marriage license to show the papertrail for your name change, because your DL and BC won't match for names. The same is true for any other name changes - adoption, by choice, etc. You need the government papertrail to show your name changes. This is why a passport is SO much easier.

For travel to anywhere a passport is required, you can NEVER use an expired passport, and requirements vary for how close to expiration you can be when you enter.

Bottom line is DCL has the FINAL say on what the will accept. It won't do any good to ask your travel agent or another cruiseline. Call DCL directly.

:cool1: :teeth: :wave2: You all have been busy! Are we trying to get to 20K or something before cruise time? :thumbsup2

Had to take a "time out" from the boards for awhile. DD has had a CT scan, ultrasound, X-ray, multiple doctor appointments, urinary infection, cancelled surgery, etc. And that was only last week!

We had a "tropical storm" that did nothing and "afternoon thunderstorms" that have soaked the playroom. My A/C condenser pan cracked and ruined the wood floor in the main living area. $1K later, I have a mountain of destroyed wood in my living room waiting for an insurance check.

Oh yeah - and I had to work too.

Nana came this weekend and helped clean out the playroom and office so they can tear up the carpet and stop the leaks (it's leaking near the ground, not at the roof). Once that gets cleaned out and fixed, everything goes BACK in the playroom and office so I can replace the wood floor in the REST of the house.

Definitely time to take a vacation! I can't wait to see everyone. There is so much planned it sounds like loads of fun. Christina's not too sure about wearing PJ's to breakfast. She thinks it's really funny. In our house we get dressed first. Otherwise she'd never make it to school!

Here are some smilies from Christina. She wants to go on the cruise now too! She also wanted to type a message and tell me some things for everyone.

Sweet Sue

I want to go see you. I want to go see you on the cruise. Because I love the cruise. I like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. I love Tracy because I love her.

Thanks Kathryn for the good info. pecially the info for ladies who's name has changed. Like you said a passport makes life a whole lot easlier.

I hate having to send a passport off to another country to get a visa, scarry but have never had a problem, always use a mailing service that can be traced, and send a return envelope with prepaod tracking.

WDW and DCL specials are on the Travel Channel starting right now.

Wow Sue that is a full plate.

I am here at work laboring on Labor Day. It's OK, I packed 90% of things yesterday so only need last minute additions. Now I just hope the tropical depression dosn't bother the 10 day cruise. Alex

By the time I answer this, you'll probably have 10 answers. For those that do not have a Passport, you need a Driver's License or a state issued photo ID and your birth certificate with the raised seal.

For those inquiring about movies, when we were on the Magic8/19 - 8/26 they were showing POC 1 & 2; CARS; the Invincibles; Narnia; Stick It; Step Up; Eight Below; and others which I don't remember. Another senior moment :rotfl2:

Mickeys Not so Scarey is fantastic. Basically its a 5 hour event consisting of Trick or Treating through out the Magic Kingdom (they have various little stations with candy and chocolate). You also get to dress up if you want. They have a special parade and fireworks display (Hallowishes). They also have free photo for each person on a halloween background, and they have characters dressed for Halloween! The one year they also had fortune telling and ghost stories on the river boat but they didn't last year. All the rides are open (unless they are being refurbished) and most don't have large ques as they only let in a limited number of people and most only go for the treats.
Hope this helps. Have PM'd you too

Thanks for this info. I think we are the only from this group going on 9/15

DCL is open today. I called them already, just reduced hours.

You must have either a passport or DL and birth certificate.
