The Magic was built in 2 halves to save time and neither shipyard had the available space to start it all at once. The wonder was built as one piece.

Hello all! We had a nice night last night at home. We ate pizza, washed clothes, and RELAXED! I can say with pride that Operation Pack is officially OVER! I am packed and ready for this trip, complete with Online Checkin and documents printed! We will leave home this evening to pick up a load in Shannon, GA that goes to Shawnee, KS then on to Portland, OR then ALL THE WAY to Miami, FL then right back here by wednesday Sept 13. Can I get a WOOHOO for all those miles?$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$spendin' money for me! It's WONDERful to be home, and there is no place like it Hope everyone is having a great day, I know I am!

Oh, and an update on my not so little black dress- It fits with plenty of room for cruise food!

Did you remember your birth certificates? :teeth:

Yeah....

.... if you wanna know whats good fer ya', then ya' don't wanna pull a "Captain Crash" on your vital documents! We just checked our docs the other day and found my passport had EXPIRED! Well - good thing I live near the county of my birth (yeah - I kno... I'm just a stick in the mud sort compared to the hemisphere trottin' PIT folks of the world)... and as I wuz sayin' ... I was rather FORTUNATE in that I could get my Birth Certificate or PASSPORT in about a day or three as needed. As we all know there are about 12 days to go so I was in no real danger of fuifilling the prophecy of the failed doc dance! And I opted for the cheapest expedited method - and I'm getting my BC in 3-5 business days for $17 + $14.40. Getting an expedited Passport would have been something like $120 + express mail two ways.

Anyways.... we are glad your home-coming was such a pleasure. We still have maybe 33% of packing to do so it looks like you're ahead of us!

OK... gotta go start catchin' up on what I missed this morning and afternoon. Hmmm..... I wonder who took 16,000? I'm gonna venture a guess that it was a WEST COAST DIS entity! Let see who it wuz...... ;)

Good evening Cruisers!! :wizard:
Back home now from the Mouse House.. :sad1: The roofers were here while we were gone.. now I have a partially completed roof and RAIN RAIN RAIN! :scared1:

You are going to have so much fun-I saw WM Pete is on that cruise too.

Dan...

... if you think flying in the same day of the sailing is tense... I have something to TOP that! We flew in as close as we could through the Hurricane Frances domino of airport closures to make what was expected to be the embarkation MONDAY. That would have left us with a 5 day sailing to unknown ports - and we went through 7 flight changes from the moment we left the house! Plus mid way enroute (3 connections) our party of 3 was SEPERATED automatically by the United computer (odd play on words there) as the flights cancelled they automatically rescheduled us cuz we were in the air. AND THEN - the closes we could get to Orlando was ... Charleston SC! We then rented a car - one of perhaps a dozen we had reserved at several Florida, GA. and S.C. airports and that Sunday we drove INTO the spiraling arms of Frances.

So what would a know nothing California boy know about hurricanes? Well... with the packed parade of escaping souls going the other way it was a singularly unique feeling to be among the very few who were driving TOWARDS the hurricane. We pulled into Jacksonville that nite at about 10PM and boy oh boy was it blowin'. We really had no idea whether it had hung a "right" with the eye coming towards us or what... so in retorspect it was pretty darn crazy. Something I'll NEVER do again. But we made it! The Hampshire Inn even had good hi speed internet service and I found out monday morning on line that the embarkation Monday had been ... Canceled. Then we called DCL and told them we were at Jacksonville and we would just motor over to Port Canaveral and catch a hotel there and await the ship (U see... as plain old stupid as this may sound - we were total DIE HARD Disney Cruise Enthusiasts... and if it were any worse for luck it might have been a die hard threatening event!

SO.... DCL sort of put us into a info blackout and eventually (decent notification - but temporary delay as THEY figured out what was going on).... eventually they told us to come on into Orlando and they would provide a nite at the Polynesian. SO.... after about 4 hours of bumper to bumper going covering about 40 miles... we were getting frayed in the car - tough hangin' crowd that was stiffly maintaining our composure - but I could plainly see we were approaching a point of decision - and I called DCL to declare they could KEEP their nite at the Polynesian and we were gonna turn around and go to P.C. for a hotel. And it was at that point they said I HAD to come to Orlando cuz the embarkation had been moced to Fort Lauderdale! And that now they were gonna bump us up to a veranda cabin too... and to get into Orlando and they would provide WDW "Ultra" passes. Well... we figured - OK - but how were we to get to Fort Lauderdale. And they explained they were gonna handle transfers for everyone on the sailing!

So - we slugged it out and got into Orlando near sunset - checked in - and found that the WDW parks were gonna close early in about an hour. Oh well... so much for the ultra passes. What were they worth? Easy come Easy go.... And we just hot the Down Town Disney scene as that stayed open a little longer. We chatted with some other DCL folks in the hotel and described a more DIFFICULT time then we had since the hurricane had passed closer to them then us. They had been confined to the hotel and were made to stay INSIDE THEIR ROOMS the whole time. No wandering the corridors or lobby. No food of significance. No courtesy food. Just what they called over priced stuff from the resort.

Oh well... so in the morning we lined up for the busses - were met by Pluto and maybe another couple of characters - and a very nice supervisor changed our exired one day ultra passes into 1 day ultra passes that were now good for any single use within the next 10 years. Who ever said DISNEY was a low class outfit had probably never been a patron of Disney!

So riding down was slow but uneventful. The casting off was delayed though as one or two busses had BROKEN DOWN enroute to Fort Lauderdale and they held the ship for them! And quite litterally, as the last passenger from the broken down busses boarded - they buttoned up the ship and Azipodded away from the pier.

Now.... this sailing had been dropped to 4 days in duration - and it was now they announced it was going to be a 4 nite Western Carib schedule. Well... that is probably our least favorite Caribbean route - but under the circumstances it was OK. The family was totally happy to have made the sailing. We ended up having ANOTHER time of our lives type vacation on that sailing. Especially considering what we went through to make the sailing. It was indeed a total adventure. And after we considered the refunds, cabin credits, hotel, passes. transfers, cabin upgrades and what not - we tabulated that DCL gave back about 60% more then what we paid net. SO it was like a free cruise + having a modest discount on our next sailing. Wierd, eh?

So - I'd like to think this Hurricane Frances travel ordeal has got to trump an uneventful flight to embark on embarkation day. And we all know... that anyone who is flying on embarkation day with our sailing will have NO complications... right?

OK... so much for that story. And if you believed all that then I's like to show you some nice used cars we have direct New Orleans. Never you mind the mud in the glove compartment or over head dome lights! That stuff adds a special fragrance to these "gems".... :lmao:

Just kidding of course. Everything I've said aout the Frances sailing is true. And the used cars are NOT. We're not that sort of horse trader!

Just got back from UPS. Boxes (4) are on the way to the ship. :cool1: :cool1: Should finish packing this weekend. Thanks for the warning on the space bags. Never gave it any thought :sad2: about the extra pounds you could manage to pack that way. :teacher:

I was so excited that I couldn't fall asleep last night. Finally around 130 I fell asleep only to hear the ringing of my alarm to wake me at 5 am for work. Ugh. This board is so addictive. I went back on around 1 am since I was up. Going to try to go to bed early tonight (Yea right) Since I worked from home today, I also had the chance to do some laundry. (Shhh - don't tell my boss)

So much to do - so little time.

hhmmm, After watching that DCL special yesterday I was curious...are all cruise ships built in halves??? that seems amazing that they could have built it in two different locations and they mated right up. I hope they used alot of super glue :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

we also watched Poseidon last night, probably not the best thing to watch before going on a cruise but at least we know what to do, yeah right... :goodvibes

now just have to watch titanic :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I believe only the Magic was build in halves. It does happen often (I don't think it does at least), but they wanted the Magic much quicker so they needed to do it.

Just kidding of course. Everything I've said aout the Frances sailing is true. And the used cars are NOT. We're not that sort of horse trader!

I do NOT doubt your Hurricane Frances story! I live in Ft. Lauderdale and got to view the Magic firsthand. I also got to view the broken down busses firsthand too. The poor dears were stranded just a mere minutes from the port! I called my Mom and told her that no matter what it couldn't be nearly as bad as "Driving to Port Canaveral, only to be bussed BACK to Ft. Lauderdale, just to break DOWN, within 5 miles of the ship".

We had two hurricane experiences. We were on the Eastern turned Western cruise. I didn't mind - but I wish they had told us BEFORE I did all my daily door signs!

As for Disney's 'LOCKDOWN', during Hurricane Wilma I was already at WDW. We were in one of the moderate resorts - I really don't remember which one at the moment (Mommy brain in full effect). We were stuck in our rooms for much of the day. I finally gave up and said "FORGET IT - I WILL BE CHARGED WITH MURDERING MY CHILD IF I DON'T LEAVE THE ROOM RIGHT THIS SECOND NOW!". I went to the main area thinking what a horrible parent I was - only to find about 1,000 other families letting their children run wild in the entrance area. The lifeguards for the pool were acting as local entertainment - basically keeping the children from destroying everything in their path (hmmm, sounds like a hurricane... Hurricane - Children? Same thing?)

After the storm passed, the parks opened up to resort guests only. It was awesome. Better than thinking about my house. When I finally returned home two days later, it was to a war zone. No water, no electric, no phone, no ice, no gas, no food. Water pressure came back after 1 day, but we had to boil it for a week (without electric of course). Electric took 21 days. Phone took over 30.

Moral of the story - BOOK A CRUISE INSTEAD! :lmao:

That reminds me of another quote I saw a while ago about cruising...

"That night, back on the ship, we go to a piano bar, where the piano player gets everybody in a festive mood by playing -- I am not making this up -- "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," a song about a ship that sank, killing all aboard. Party time! " -Dave Barry -

At least it probably won't get played at Sail Away... :rockband: :sail:

You are more than welcome to bring the grandpuppies over for a visit if you just can't stand it anymore. DD, her royal highness Christina princess: just    puppies, dogs and all characters inbetween. We also have free shelter and a new roof should the rain be too much. Also have a brand new 500 bottle wine cooler that's almost full - it'll take the edge off of any roof drama! :teeth:

Where do you keep a wine cooler like that? We have a cellar that fits about 500 bottles. Granted there's more space in our room if we wanted to put more in there, but wow!! :lovestruc

In my brand new kitchen - paid for by Hurricane Wilma (thank you very much). It takes up more room than my refrigerator - but not much. The bottles are stacked up one in front of the other, so you can only see about 250 of the bottles. It's great for keeping everything at 55 - not great at display. But in my dinky 2-bed house, space matters a whole lot more than atmosphere.
