The weather in London last week was superb -- warm and sunny.

A highlight was the British Library, where we saw the "Treasures" collection. It has the oldest complete Bible in existence, the Magna Carta, Leonardo da Vinci's notebook, the only existing medieval manuscript of Beowulf, The Canterbury Tales, Shakespeare's manuscripts, manuscripts by Mozart, Beethoven, and Handel's Messiah. Plus, handwritten lyrics by the Beatles ("I Wanna Hold Your Hand," "A Hard Day's Night," "A Ticket To Ride," "Here, There, and Everywhere," and "Yesterday.") It was fab!

Glad you enjoyed the British Library Woody. It's one of my most favourite places in London (but then I'm maybe biased as I'm a librarian! )

Ok, I'm adding the British Library onto my list of want to see's while we're in London before the Baltic in '10. I think I need to write this list down and start looking for some sort of tour group. I know there's no way we can see everything on our own.

...and don't forget Covent Garden, the museums (Natural History, Science, British, and the V & A), St James' Park, Buckingham Palace, Tower of London, the London Eye, the Tate Modern, Nelson's Column, the National Gallery, and of course tea at Harrods.....oh and a West End show, or opera or ballet at the Royal Opera House........is that enough to be going on with Emily??

London is a very easy city to get around on your own - the tube & the buses are wonderful and take you everywhere. There are passes you can buy (Oyster Pass if I remember correctly) that cover both the tube & the buses. Taxis are easy to find too.

I hope to catch a play while I'm there.

Sounds like I should start making my list - if the economy ever pulls itself out of this hole, and the dollar gets a bit stronger - we'll be planning our very BELATED trip to UK!

Ooh I noticed there were a large party of American visitors at my University this morning! I guess that's because the campus is in the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College at Greenwich and is a World Heritage Site on the banks of the Thames with three beautiful baroque buildings designed by Sir Christopher Wren at the end of the 17th century... Plus it's very near the 17th-century Royal Observatory, home to the Greenwich Meridian line - this divides the hemispheres and marks longitude zero as well as being the spot from which Greenwich Mean Time is calculated...

That's kind of what I would like to find. I found a lot of the hop on, hop off bus tours, but I want someone to keep me on a schedule and so I can customize it and hopefully be able to see everything I want to see.

I take it that F/E is "Fish Extender?" I tortally want to get/make one for this cruise! However, they are an egnigma to me. How are they made? Can I find one on the DIS that will make one for me? What else are my must haves for this cruise other than a F/E? I'm kind of a cruising virgin. Well, almost.
