September 12, 2009 ~ Last Call for Tortola! Thread 3

We were diverted a few years ago and ended up in Puerto Rico and Nassau. I agree that Nassau would be a disappointment. Now, a double dip in CC would be GREAT!

as long as we make it to st. thomas i will be happy...happily married that is!
our wedding is on magen's bay...keep your fingers crossed!

do we have to sign up to come to the DIS meet on the first day?
I am a little worried about getting everything done when I board, but I want to try and make it to meet everyone!

Nope....just SHOW UP AT 3PM AT THE PROMENADE LOUNGE

....especially those of you who haven't gotten you lanyards by then!

There will be: air conditioning, chairs, space, bartender and waiters! :thumbsup2

It's my understanding that Butlin's has opened a resort in Nassau. We could get up a group and go as daytrippers, but only if you promise not to embarass me, Marilyn.

Just make sure you have a knotted hanky!! Oh no, that would mean you would embarass me!

But Ian...

I thought you were going to do a Butlins wear retrospective on formal night???

I wonder what that would be?

Nassau is fine for one visit. We did a guided walk with David Marx(Passporter) and that was very interesting. Friends went to the Atlantis hotel for the day and enjoyed that. The worse thing was getting in and out of the port. Quite a scrum. Lots of touristy tee shirt shops etc.

I'm sure ours will be arriving this week, but I'm heading out of town on business today. I told Sukie to be careful with the mail and not go throwing anything out as junk mail, especially not anything from DCL!

DH and I were on this cruise as well.

Our first cruise (western) was in Sept 2005 which turned out to be the most active hurricane season in recorded history. I remember watching the weather channel for days before we were to fly down. Hurricane Ophelia was just forming off the coast of Port Canaveral and it stalled there for days. There was speculation that we'd have to change our flight in case the ship had to move down to Ft. Lauderdale and sail out of there instead. Thankfully, she started to head north the day before we flew down.

We ended up having spectacular weather the whole week and I remembed thinking after the fact how fortunate we were. The passengers that were ready to board the following Saturday for their eastern itinerary, however, were not so lucky. They had to divert to a western to avoid Hurricane Rita which began to form at the end of our week. Rita eventually became a Cat 5 storm and made landfall in Texas.

And Hurricane Wilma (another Cat 5) made landfall over Cozumel five weeks after we were there destroying the piers.

So even though I'm a little nervous about the weather next month, I'm feeling pretty good about our chances of having perfect weather. :goodvibes

While sitting in the taxi this morning on my way to the airport, it dawned on me that I have only 2 more weekends before we leave foe WDW. This coming Saturday is my last full Saturday to myself as the following week I'll be busy with my friend who will be dog sitting for us.

Isn't it odd how the time leading up to a trip seems to drag, and then suddenly seems to accelerate?

Yep. It's because all those early weeks (months!) are spent planning, but when it get's close in, you've got to start doing. :lmao:

Quite the philosopher Jackie!!!:lmao:

As a devout procrastinator, I learned this quite young!

To my FE team....I've printed out the item finally and will be starting the cutting portion of the project next. I have a co-worker who will be helping me with the final assembly of the FE distribution mechanism. ;)

Ok, as one who has never been to Nassau, please enlighten me. Why do people not like it as a port?:confused3

I am wondering also - never been to Nassau. Is it too touristy?

So exciting!!!!!!!!! Here's to good weather pixiedust: Any details on your plans? What are you going to wear? Is it the two of you or are others going along on the cruise for your wedding? Please excuse me if you have already said the scoop - this thread moves pretty fast and I don't know that I am up on everything.

You said it! I am the queen of planning, then procrastination on the DOING. :rotfl: I am starting to get a bit panicky about getting/having everything we need and packing in time. :scared:

I agree neighbor, NO NASSAU!!!!!!! Or no Key West. Absolutely NO Costa Maya either. I would take Grand Cayman or Cozumel though.

I wouldn't mind being diverted to Key West.. At least then I'd get to spend the day with my Brother and Sister In Law :thumbsup2

I'd take Costa Maya too

In MY opinion... It's dirty, Boring, and the people are rude to visitors.. Not much to do there at all

I wouldn't mind Key West. We were there for only one day on a Celebrity cruise and we loved it. I thought we would like it the least as it was still so domestic and we were looking forward to other places, but it was one of the highlights of the cruise.
