September 12, 2009 ~ Last Call for Tortola! Thread 3

The only horse photos I have on a hosting site (and you can use your Facebook photos too), is one of Peg when she first got her Marquis.

Hope she doesn't yell at me for posting it.....just ignore the 80's perm! :lmao:

I'm still in steerage as well.

Oh where, oh where is the upgrade fairy?
Oh where, oh where can she be?????

Here's hoping for a little Pixie Dust. :wizard: If I don't get it, oh well, at least I'm on a Disney Cruise and not in my office!!!!!!:cool1::cheer2:

My first pony:

Finally on my 24th birthday I had something to wish for instead of a horse!:lmao:(BUT I had plenty of tack to wish for!)

Here's Thunder and a very, very, young Peg.

My seond pony (Peg had me 'upgrade' so she could show my horse along with her pony)

The lovely Che Bye

This photo was taken after I had sold her and moved to Phoenix (the little girl holding her, was actually two owners after me. I let Peg tell the story of this photo since she took it.

CheBye the day we got her:

Peg was yelling at me to 'take the picture!' CheBye was anxious to meet all her new stable mates!

Ok, I just finished filling out my online forms. I had done it before but left it unfinished due to our passports not being here yet. So I put in pertinent info and then would finish when the passport came in. I got the passports last week but was too busy/tired to get on the DCL site. Got on tonight and found out that the DCL site dropped the II off of my DH's name.

Thanks

I don't think this will really be an issue. The site probably doesn't let you edit his name, since it's so close to cruising time and there is a charge for changing a passanger (which is what the web site would read your change as). You can straighten it out at the port, if it's even necessary.

Thanks Jackie. I sent off a quick email to DCL explaing the problem. I've encountered it for airlines as well (at least Southwest). They just don't like the suffixes.

You and I are going to get along so well on this trip. I just keep finding out that we have more and more in common.

I too love horses, and ride them whenever I can.

Then again my horses go up and down and around and around.
I love those horses too!
Love those aft staterooms! Sitting inside is GREAT....however, having an outside muster station means you get in the lifeboats FIRST if there's trouble! :lmao:

I wouldn't mind seeing some HORSE PICTURES.:thumbsup2

My greatest day in my 'horse history'...doing a flying lead change...on purpose!

My worst day in my 'horse history'...taking a dive and being unconscious for a few minutes.

Ian's horse:

pin19300

FYI, this is Lillian Disney's favorite horse on the DL carousel.

.
OMG - that crash was the scariest moment in my entire LIFE - she was speaking in tongues (ok not so much tongues but she was speaking in a voice that was NOT hers)...
Lindsay just turned 8. We have been letting her jump crossrails (about 6" high) down in the pasture. She thinks she is special! She has no interest in western riding at all - i am assuming this is because i ride western. Her Aunt Kari (has the arab) rides English and was a show jumper...and Lindsay thinks she is the best. I never took lessons, so I am not sure what she is getting into. She absolutely loves the jumping though. She is taking lessons at our YMCA. When she gets more serious, i guess we will have to find a competitive barn.

What is gymkana?

I am so sorry about your arab. I know that had to be awful. My sisters' arab is 23 and she has had him since he was 3 (she was 15 when she got him). I am just dreading something happening to him...it will kill her. Our appy is 28 or so. People that don't have horses just don't understand what wonderful animals they are.

We mostly trail ride. Recently we set up barrels in the field and had a few days of fun running them (in the spring), until it got hot. i just feel bad running them so hard in our 95 degree heat with 90% humidity...so we don't.

What is your current horse like?

My favorite is Scarlett (I wouldn't tell my best friend though). She is the walker...and a bit spunky. She spooked at a buzzard flapping its wings recently and left me in the dirt. (i shouldn't have been so relaxed!) She is 8 yrs old.

I will see if i can figure out how to post pictures.

looking forward to meeting you....
Gymkana is a serious of events, like boot race, catalog race, pole bending, etc. Fun stuff - mostly 4-H type of classes. Barrel racing is a form of gymkana as well - I'm not sure where they came up with that... my current horse is 24 she is a buckskin mare quarter type who is the biggest cookie monster I know - she'll do ANYTHING for food - we originally got her for my DH to ride with me on the trails and she turned out being the best 1st horse for an adult. She's sweet and has always taken care of him, never bit him, never kicked, never bucked... a dream - and her first time we went camping she literally JUMPED into the trailer as if to say "where ever you guys go - I GO!"

I found my Marquis when he was 3 MONTHS old - he was 23 when he got a horrible case of colic and I had to put him down. It did kill me - a bit... it still hurts - but now each day I get to look back at the good times, and not feel so bad - except every once in a blue I have a moment like I did earlier - I just well up... it happens - but passes because one thing I know - he wouldn't want me to be sad. Sounds ridiculous to people who don't know and love animals - but there were many many times in my life when I'd be sad and he ALWAYS did something to make me laugh - remind me to tell you the story of how he pulled on my sister-in-laws draw string pants (she's afraid of horses).... it was hysterical. He would NOT let go - and the look in his eye .... "yeah, I GOT her!"

I too had to put 1 of my arabs down. a few months ago. They were inside for 4 days with all the rain and mud. It dryed up some so I put them out and she stayed in the barn with a horse on stall rest. so I chased her out and a young gelding ran out with her. Well she slipped in the mud running with him and landed on her shoulder with me watching. At 18 she broke it so :~((
Accidents are difficult -

SUNDERMAN! His name was Thunder - he was the head honco at the barn!

Got on tonight and found out that the DCL site dropped the II off of my DH's name. I really don't want to go on the cruise with my FIL. I like him but I'd rather go with DH ;). The site wouldn't let me change his name only his info. and I know I put the II after his name because I asked him if I put it after his first name or if it should be after his last name (because of the whole input the last name first thingy). Do I call DCL and tell them or do I let it go and we'll get it changed at the port?

BTW I'll have the same problem at the airport and the tickets. For some reason, these sites do not like to recognize anything after the proper name (i.e. II, III, Jr, etc.) If they are going to make you have your name as it is shown on your ID then they need to fix the gliches in their reservation systems.

Thanks

For peace of mind, you might just call DCL and straighten it all out.I'm sure they can change in the reservation system on their end.

Good Morning Tortolians. Great news....we're leaving one day earlier than planned. YEAH! We initially planned on John going into work on Monday Sept 7th and we were going to leave on Tues. We just now realized that Monday is Labor Day and John has the day off. We could have left on Saturday. I checked the car rental company and it would cost $250 more to add two days to our ressie. It's not worth it. We're picking up our car on Monday at 6:00 pm. So we'll leave Monday night instead of Tuesday night. It gives us one extra day. We decided to book two nights in Hilton Head on the drive down.

Sam and Joanie, I know you guys will be there too. Maybe we should meet up and do dinner together. John and I want to do the Greek restaurant that we went to last time when we were there. Do you like Greek food?

I'm happy to be leaving one day sooner. This coming Monday it will be three weeks until we hit the road. I'm so excited and I can't wait. This weekend we will be trying on clothes. We need to see what still fits and what we might need to pick up.

I'm ready to pack now. Let's Go!

Thanks. I went onto the DCL site trying to find their phone # and I came across an email site for them for problems. So I dashed off an e-mail and hopefully they'll fix it. Otherwise I'll call about it tomorrow.

When I noticed the error, I called to DH "Does your dad have a passport?". To which he replied yes. So I told him "Good, 'cause he's going on the cruise with me and the kids. They left the II off your reservation so it's his name on it not yours". Of course he was not amused. It'll get fixed I know, it's just one more thing to straighten out.

Three weeks from today I'll be heading in for my last day of work before the trip! :woohoo:

That night I meet up with Cheri (NotSoLittleMermaid), and we head down to the Ramada Inn by the airport. They have a 'stay and park' deal where you can leave your car there for free. :thumbsup2 So we'll leave her car in my garage and take mine down. I'll pick her up at the airport the week after the cruise (as she has a THREE WEEK vacation...must be nice to be retired).

Time to hit the shower get the day started.

Yes - retirement is wonderful! Not rubbing it in or anything, but my life seems like a perpetual vacation since I retired at Thanksgiving, even though I substitute taught 45 out of 90 days second semester. That will start up again soon, but not until after the cruise/WDW(SSR) trip.

Monica,

I sent you an email too. Will I be getting an updated spreadsheet of names for the lanyard badges? I'm planning on printing them on Saturday morning.
