September 12, 2009 ~ Last Call for Tortola! Thread 3

I don't run, just walk. I used to run, years ago until it screwed up one of my knees. I'll be happy to walk. A 5K would be easy and great for sightseeing. I already walk 3 miles to get to work everyday (4.8K) and about 2 miles or so on my lunch hour.

If you don't walk too fast I can try doing this w/ you :)

I also walk on my lunch hour (usually 2.5 miles) and I usually walk another 1 mile during the day for a 15 min break (we get scheduled 15 min breaks where I work). So a 5k wouldn't be bad, it'd only take 45 min to 1 hr to walk. Might be interested. You're right, it would be a good way to sightsee.

I've never seen much of the island, other than from the tram, and I've always wanted to take a walk around.

A challenge would be how scheduled the day is. We have two planned activities. Also it's packing day isn't it? Yuck.

Well, the report I read on the 5K, is you are off the ship before everyone else, at least when you start. You are lead by a cast memeber, but everyone goes at their own pace.

I'll see if I can find the link later today (might not be till tonight)>

Getting off early would be great (but DH would have to get the kids ready :scared1:). We have parasailing at 10:30am otherwise it's just enjoying the beach. So, for me it would depend on the timetable as well.

Is there a map of the route that is taken? Just wondering if I would be better served doing a bike ride with the family and see the same parts of the island (but no where near the calorie burn).

I just ordered all our stuff and am so excited to get working on them!! My kids picked out the kid's goodies and did a great job!! So looking forward to the cruise!! Ali

Thanks for the link Monica!

Ali, I'm excited about 'building' my FE ...um...containment/delivery system...:lmao:

Hello again, everyone. Just wanted to let everyone know that we are going to be on the cruise. We are so looking foward to this cruise.

Now to look through the whole thread, again.:woohoo:

YEAH! We are going to have a grand time! ::yes::

We have been offered an upgrade from a Cat 6 to a Cat 4 for $300. I don't think it is worth it for us as we are in the same Cat 6 cabin for the following cruise too, so would have to change on changeover day. Otherwise, I would have thought about it.

Marilyn,

How did you come to be offered the upgrade?

Oh, if they are starting the "offer an upgrade for $" game....stateroom assignments can't be far behind. And more likelyhood of upgrades being available at port. ::yes::

.

Folks of the 9/10 Wonder just discovered their GTY cabin had been assigned.

If you booked GTY you might want to start checking your reservation over the next few days and see if your assignment shows up! :thumbsup2

Would like your opinions please (I promise to not hold you to it LOL,only your best guess). If DCL is offering upgrades at this time then the ship is not full. I would then expect that free upgrades would probably be non-existent, correct? So if I want an upgrade how much would I expect to pay at the port to go from a Cat. 11 to a cat 9? I booked a Cat. 11, and I'll be happy with that, but just curious if you know about how much it would cost to upgrade at port.

Linda, you should probably post this question on the main forum, as you'll have more people with experience in buying port upgrades to see your question.

(And to me it would seem more likely that some free upgrades could be given out, if they don't have people paying for them 30 days in advance.)

Thanks Jackie, I will ask on the main board.

Here's hoping we all get a little pixie dust and Disney gives us an upgrade. Actually it would be a smart move on Disney's part if they upgraded people for free on non-full-to-capacity sailings. It would make people happy, which would encourage them to cruise more (I got a Cat 8 for a Cat 11 price, so I'll do DCL again, that was a deal) and spend more $ on the cruise because of the "savings" they got on the room. I would think of a free upgrade as a savings anyway! That would make good marketing sense and would cost them nothing as the ship is sailing one way or another with the same amount of crew so why not establish a little goodwill and possibly loyalty?

I agree!!!

I have never been upgraded on DCL - NCL yes (on my 1st cruise w/ them). I've now been on DCL 4x - this will be nbr 5....it'd go a long way in keeping my business w/ the new higher fares that are coming out.
