September 12, 2009 ~ Last Call for Tortola! Thread 3

Hi Guys,

We are jumping on the Thread late, but here we go.

Griffin 9
Teaghan 15 Months
Jim (Dad)
Maureen (Mom)

are so excited to be on this cruise.

This will be #5 for us...Going to be a challenge with the baby, but we should be ok.

Just wanted to throw our names in the hat. Our last cruise (when we found out about Teaghan) was in September 07. I think it was the 15 - 22. Not sure. Anyone on that cruise?

Anyway...Our good friends from Miami (Cecelia, Pedro, Andre and Eric) will be on this cruise with us. Can you believe we met these guys in line waiting for our 2nd Disney Cruise. Yup, that is right. We were waiting for the Magic to be ready from the 2005 refurb and we sat next to each other in line and started talking. We have been friends ever since. That is the Disney Magic.

My Brother and Sister-in-law will also be on this cruise as well as my wife's parents and their children.

Going to be a great trip.

Sorry we are jumping on so late, but here we go...

I love Teaghan's name too! Our granddaughter will be on the cruise--9 months old. Babies seem to thrive on DCL as do kids of all ages (like me).

I think we might have been on that same cruise too if Donna and Harry were there, then we were. :)

Jackie,
Where did you find this? My DH would love this!!! I don't know how you find everything out?:worship: Are you secretly employed by Disney?:thumbsup2 Vicki

Some time ago I said that Jackie needed a title and it should be
ExplorEAR ExtraordinEARy

Nah....I've just been over on the WDW trip planning forums since I'm doing a week there before the cruise

IF YOU NEED IT THE NUMBER FOR SOMEONE TO CALL THE SHIP IS:

888-322-8732 it's $7 per minute

I actually make a 1/2 page sign to put INSIDE my suitcase with my name and address and where I can be reached during my trip. If my luggage is lost and the outside tag is missing/destroyed, there is contact information inside.

.

I will add the phone number to page 1 post 1

Cruise docs came this morning!!!!!:cool1:

You must be very pleased with yourself.

It will be great to be seeing you and John again. I wonder if we'll also bump into you in WDW?

Depending on how things go and timing, might you consider taking the boat over from MK to VWL and visiting a spell?

Well that is a very nice option.

From our plans it looks like we are in different parks on different days. Wednesday we are at MK, though I guess we will be leaving before 2pm for a bit of a nap. We are going to be so tired this time with all we have to do with the work going on here.

Sitting in a room in the Comfort Inn, in Bolivar, MO, here for business and not to take the waters.

I just looked at my desktop DVC countdown and it says there are 14 days until I and the intrepid little band I'm travelling with arrive in WDW, for a full frontal beach head attack Dole Whips.

For some reason, today's countdown increased my sense of urgency.

This coming weekend is going to be the festival of electronics at Eastwood Manor. I need to start collecting and staging all the gadgets.

I keep thinking of this weekend as my last full weekend, because next weekend, the one before we actually depart, I have to get my friend who is dog sitting, ready and prepped. He's moving in on Wednesday the 2nd, so he can go through one full morning with the dogs before we leave.

He's a bit nervous about the whole thing, and wants to be throughly prepared, so I need to take quite a bit of time doing that.

Anyone else have pets, and what are you doing with them?

In the past we have boarded them, but at $95 a night when we're away for 15 nights, is a bit costly. And that's WITH a multiple dog discount! Somehow $1,425 is just a bit much to part with for boarding.

I just saw that WDW is having an annual pass holder special. I can book the Pop Century for $69 a night. Maybe I should have gotten the dogs a room at the Pop Century since that would only cost $1,035 for the length of stay.

I'm very grateful that this friend is going to stay with them. Partly because he's a very gentle soul and was very attached to his little dog who he had for 17 years. We had not had a good experience with dog sitters. One friend (no longer a friend) who we paid to stay with them while we were on the Panama Canal cruise was not very good to them.

We heard from our upstairs neighbors/tenant who have two dogs of their own, that he had mistreated them.

Our best ever dog sister can't do this time. She's proving to just be greedy and selfish by going on this cruise with us, rather than allowing my to fly her to Chicago to take care of Tallulah and Truman. When we came back from vacation they enjoyed being with her so much, they really couldn't have cared less that we were home.

I sometimes wonder where people's priorities are.

So, what are you folks doing with your pets during the cruise?

The time change will be very taxing I imagine. It's very nice for you to have some days before the cruise to at least make a bit of an adjustment.

Our boxer, Ozzy will be staying with his grandparents (Jason's parents). That's what we normally do when we go out of town. I guess the last time we had him boarded was in '06 and that was also when we had him fixed.

With his medicine schedule now I also feel better having him with them. I know the vet would make sure he got his med's, but someone would have to come in after hours to give it to him. I know he's in excellent hands.

Finished putting together my FE last night! One craft project for the cruise down, 3 to go. I need to finish my daughters flipflops (Mickey ones and Tink ones), finish the tags for the cabin gifts (computer giving me problems last night), and finish making "Mickey head" sarongs for swimsuit coverups for DD and myself. I saw them at WDW before but didn't want to pay the $ for them, then last trip I said I was going to get them and now they don't sell them anymore. So, I thought I'll just make them myself. Tried it out last night on an old skirt that I was going to throw out and it looked good. Hopefully it works as well on the large scarves that I bought for this purpose. I'll take a photo and share it here if someone will give me instructions on how to do it. Thanks! 22 days 'til FishLips, 23 days 'til we all meet on the Magic!!!!

DD will come by every one or two days to tend to the two cats and bird. Much easier to care for than dogs.:thumbsup2 The cats will hate staying inside for 12 days, especially since the weather will still be warm but they'll get over it. When we return they will either glare at us or totally ignore us and then go to the door to be let out.

Very fortunately, John's son John...aka...the kid....lives on property in an apartment above the detached garage. While we're gone he just moves into our house. So the kitty and puppy and turtles will be well cared for and not lonely. We have a doggy door with a pen for Angel so there's no dog walking involved. The kid has been on 3 vacations since we took our last vacation. While he is gone we take care of his cat (really mom's cat....he inherited her when mom passed away 2 years ago) and now it's his turn to take care of our pets.

The only problem we ever run into is when the kid is on the same vacation that we are. That only happened twice. Our neighbor took our dog to take care of and the turtles got feeder golds.....little fish that they can eat all week long and the cats got food set down for a week. They mostly only eat dry food....we left many bowls of it. They still had some left when we got home so we know we gave them enough. We try not to take vacations together so there will always be someone at home.

Linda, aren't you the crafty and creative one! Bravo! I envy your talent.

My mom always did crafts, cooked and sewed. I don't know how I was ever related to her because I don't do any of the above. I'm horrible at crafts and sewing. I'm an OK cook, but John surpasses me tenfold and he enjoys it while I do not. So fortunately there's no competition in the kitchen.

Donna, isn't it funny how they react. Angel, the dog, will come right to us and be happy to see us when we get home. Ella, the cat, will be fickle and let me know that she's pissed that I left her. It will take her a few hours before she'll come to me when we get back. John, she probably won't go to for a day or so. She thinks that I belong to her exclusively and she's not sure who that tall guy is in the house.....hahaha.....they are very funny indeed!

For those of you who have your docs...

Did you book directly or thru a TA?

Did they come in the mail or UPS?

I saw the FEDEX truck come on our street today...not for us though!:lmao:

We booked through a TA (Vacations to Go) and recieved ours Monday (we live in KS)
I think that they came UPS since they were not in the regular mail pile (DH was home.. I was at work when they arrived)

here's a little "horn battle" that will get everybody all worked up! (made me teary eyed - )

We are boarding the dog (10 nights.. $400) and I have a friend coming over to take care of the cats and bring in the mail etc while we are gone.

As for Pets: my mom will come over every 2 days and check on my cat and feed him, change water and clean the litter box.. :cat:

We also still have our son's fish.. I'll get a 10 day feeding tablet for them.. I just can't seem to give the fish to a pet store yet :guilty: It's weird, I never thought I'd want to hold on to his fish of all things :sad2:

Well today is laundry day. I procrastinated all day yesterday and never got it done. So today we're doing cruise laundry and packing it away into two suitcases, land and sea. Then I'm packing FE gifts, tiaras and boas. Then we only have the last minute things to pack and I'm soooooo ready to go.

I've been saying three weeks to go all week long. This week is almost over. Now it's two weeks to go and a weekend before we leave. YEAH!!!!

I better get cracking. Don't want to miss the boat!

Does anyone else have DirecTV? Since we'll be gone for two and a half weeks at the beginning of the Fall season with all the new shows starting.....I'm thinking about using a feature that DirecTV offers.....you can go online and schedule your DVR to record shows. I have never used this before. I'm thinking about trying it out. Has anyone ever done this?

Hi Stacy, congratulations on getting your cruise docs....you're onboard now!

It's good to have mom close by to care for the pets.

Don't get rid of the fish. Keep them for Damien's sake. He would have preferred that. We still have my mom's cat and it's been two years. It's a comfort.
