Checkin' In... from Hot and Humid Disney World!!

Andy and I and our son's 2 best girl friends, decided to drive from NJ to FL.. Well, in Virgina, we were in a car accident and my car was TOTALED!! :headache: Thank Goodness no one was hurt.. but now my car is in VA and we had to get a rental car and I now have to deal with this mess..

A 17 year old girl, sped up, switched lanes, didn't pay attention that traffic was at a complete stop and never even braked.. Slammed into the rear end of us sending us in the rear end of the car in front of us..

Again, No one was hurt other then some bruises.. thank goodness..

I called Her insurance today and the girl nor her parents called to report the accident. She was even given a ticket..

:sad2: when it rains it pours around here :sad2:

Oh my goodness Stacey. I'm so glad nobody was hurt, but how horrible. Any whiplash? Take care.

I've been thinking about you every day and hope you can get to enjoy the rest of your trip.

Got Palo dinner for 6 pm on Wed. night (no other time available). It was either that or on Sat. night. Didn't think the kids would want their first dinner on board without the parents. They should be fine by Wed. evening. The only excursion we booked was for parasailing on Castaway Cay. We thought we'd explore St. Thomas and Tortola on our own, maybe hit the beach and do a little shopping. Make it kinda easy on the kids. I hope to snag a Palo brunch while on board and maybe change Palo dinner to Thurs. night. We'll just have to wait and see. Is Wed. night ok for Palo? We'd be back on board by that time anyway.

Once you board, you should be able to change your reservation. On all of my previous cruises, I booked what I could get that was the best fit, and then lined up at the Rockin' D to change it and have been successful each time.

Stacy, I'm so glad to hear you guys are ok. Some people just shouldn't be driving.

And I know what you mean about it being hot and humid there. We were there over the weekend and we were miserable. First time we've ever gone during the summer. We went down for the pin event. I think if we ever do it again we'll just go for the event and not even bother trying to ride anything. The crowds and heat were unbearable.

Wed, St Thomas, we'll be back on the ship by 4:30PM. It's also rotational dining that night (not a 'special' menu), but you'll miss whatever restaurant you'd be in that night. ALTHOUGH, with your early Palo, you could pop into your regular restaurant if you so chose. Some folks do 'double dip' you know! :thumbsup2 That way you could experience it with the kids.

.

.

That is of course if you have room to double dip.:lmao:

So sorry to hear this. Very glad no one was seriously hurt. :grouphug: On a better note, can you please send some of the hot and humid weather to MA? We've had such a horrible summer so far. June is going to be the 2nd cloudiest June on record, EVER!

You even got switched to the same hotel as us after the cruise. You can't stalk any better than that. :lmao:

And yes, we were meant to be friends!! Someone thought that Boston and St. Louis went together.:scared1: ;) How's those Sox!!??

Not only the same hotel on Disney property, but we were in the same building! Sox are doing well this season. If we can just get Smoltz back on his A-game we would be on a roll! :flower3:

OMG pfishgirl, I am so sorry about your accident. Enjoy your vacation. Deal with the other stuff later. Hugs.

Slightly OT, but still Disney related...

Last weekend the kids and I went to Oakland and caught up with the Disney's A Christmas Carol Train Tour. We had the chance to see a sneak peak of the movie as well as how they made it (using motion capture techniques and then converted to a cartoon style movie). It stars, Jim Carey, Colin Firth, Bob Hoskins and more.

All I can say is "Wow!" It looks phenomenal! Certainly on my list to go see when it is finished. It will be out November 6th in 3D and IMAX.

Best of all, the experience was FREE (OK it was a marketing tool, but it was a fun time out). Got to see the San Francisco skyline from the other side of the bay as the train was stationed at a park that used to be an old Naval base with stunning views across the bay.

-Kay

p.s. If you get a chance to see the train tour, I would go. It is traveling across the country and ending up in NY on November 1st.

Hi Woody, how was Yosemite! My kids keep asking to go back... (We were there earlier this year.

Did you join the "Half Dome Club"?
Yosemite was absolutely breathtaking. We hiked the Wapama Falls trail at Hetch Hetchy, and enjoyed a picnic lunch at the base of the falls.

No, I did not join the Half Dome Club. That trail is 14 to 16 miles, has a 4,800-foot gain, takes 10-12 hours, and is rated "extremely strenuous." I applaud anyone who has hiked it.

:scared1:Stacy - I am so sorry to hear this. That is VERY scary and I pray that once you get a chance please get looked over, because if anything comes up from the accident you'll have record later... I made Jackie do this ...just in case. Sometimes your body re-acts later!:wizard:

Sounds wonderful - loved the photo of the falls! We've yet to hit Yosemite but I might be moving it up on the list for an August trip if I can get away...

Never got up to Hetch Hetchy. Yet!

DH and I have hiked Half Dome but not in one day. We were going to hike in the back country for 3 days, but on our first night (camping in the shadow of half dome) a little mouse got into the bear box and ate through our meal supply, TP supply and one of DH's favorite t-shirts. We had to change our plans as we no longer had supplies for the full trip so ended up just completing half dome in the AM and then hiking back down to the valley floor. The view from the top of Half Dome is phenomenal. The climb up the dome itself is not that bad and again, here is a but - we were up and down the dome before the hoards arriving from the valley floor who were doing in in a day (I can imagine a traffic jam up the ropes at that time). BTW DH and I were younger and a lot fitter then!

Do go if you get the chance. It is beautiful year round (even in the low mists and rain). Each season changes its character.

I still remember visiting for the first time (during our first year in the USA). The scenery is stunning. DH and I stood at the base of El Capitan in awe of the rock race before us (having rock climbed in the UK, seeing this climbing mecca and its immense scale was just, well, awe inspiring!). There are wonderful sights to behold, without having to hike into the back country.

Outstanding! I applaud you.

Perhaps one day I'll make the trek.

:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug: Thank goodness no one was hurt.

John and me do the drive between PA and FL all the time. Once we were rear ended by a young teenage girl talking on the cell phone. She never got off the phone to talk to us. We called the police and she didn't want to get off the phone for the policeman either. We were in a rental at the time. Her insurance did pay for it.

At least you'll be in the house of Mouse soon so everything will be perfect and magical. Enjoy!

This reminded me of something that happened this past Sunday. I almost hit a woman on a bicycle with my car.

It was a narrow one-way street and of all things, she was riding on her bicycle and talking on her cell phone. She had it crooked, between her left shoulder and ear. She really got into her conversation and very suddenly, steered the bicycle in the same direction of the cell phone and out in front of my car. I slammed on the breaks. Luckily no one was behind me. She was impervious to any of this and kept talking on the phone, now in the middle of the street, shooting through a red light and into a 3 street intersection.

Same thing repeated, cars slamming on their brakes. I think everyone nearly had a heart attack. It was a miracle she wasn't hit.

She just kept peddling merrily along. Still talking on her cell phone.
