September 10, 2005 - Western Cruise!

Ok, so here's a question for everyone....

How "piratey" are you planning on being on Pirate Night? At first I was thinking eye patches and hoop earrings, but then I saw people's pictures on-line and it looks like a good majority of the guests are full-blow pirates! So now I'm leaning more toward red and white striped knee socks, a ripped black skirt and some kind of striped or lace up shirt. How about you?

Arrrgggh...
My first mate and I are arriving with homemade pirate costumes. Nothing fancy from a costume store just stuff we've concocted ourselves. She's a sewer so she's making herself into a "pirate chick" I guess what a rough and tumble girl pirate would look like on the high seas! I'm going a bit more traditional, kind of a cute nice pirate, you know like Smee from Peter Pan. Striped shirt, black short pants, hat, etc. But I'm doing all that with regular clothes. The only thing I ordered was the pirate hat and that was cheap, like $3.95. Just enough to get in the spirit I think. I mean, we should definitely take this opportunity to play dress up! And who knows, if the REAL pirates come on board and see us disguised as pirates they might not make us walk the plank. ;)

I have my fingers crossed that if any pirates come aboard, they happen to be Johnny Depp! :o) My fiance hates taht I have such a HUGE crush on Captain Jack Sparrow!

Fltink,

Not sure if you listen to country music or not, but you have to somehow find a way to see the video for the song "Girls Lie Too" by Teri Clarke. In the dream, the woman is fantasizing about Captain Jack while the song talks about putting up with her "actual" mate. It's really cute. :)

Hmmm.....not a country fan but anything with Johnny Depp is worth looking at!

Those pictures are SO precious! Your son's tux is too cute. Do I take it that he will be wearing one this cruise, also???

or 5 weeks from today we will all be getting up and getting ready to go to the port and board the Magic.
Anybody else getting excited?

I can't tell you how ready I am, especially because I have final exams in a couple days! I'll be SO ready to sail away! pirate:

Hopefully, I can keep my sanity until then! :rotfl2:

I think we should try to plan a time for those of us with young Oceaneer kids to meet the first day, maybe at the Promenade Lounge, so the kids can meet each other and will know who they'll be playing with in the club. Might make it easier for those who are reluctant to be dropped off there. :grouphug:

I can't believe it, 5 weeks!!! Wow!!!

Who was to do a dismeet on board? I was thinking of sometime on the first day. That way everyone could meet each other and those of you who have kids could meet too. I've never been on dcl so anyone know what a good time would be too meet up. And also a good place for all ages to meet. FLtink I know you've been on several cruises any advice on where and when to do this. It would be nice to put faces with names on here and also to get a group pic.

Well, the first day can be a tough one. The lifeboat drill and the sailaway paty are one right after another. What about right after the Sail Away Party? Say around 5:15 in the Promenade Lounge? (That's a huge area right off of the main lobby where kids and adults are welcome.) This way, everyone can meet up before getting ready for dinner or the show, depending on the rotation that you have. I would say this is your best bet. Any time prior to Sail Away, people are still getting onboard, getting their luggage and getting reservations for Palo. Obviously no one wants to miss Sail Away and then starting at 6, people are heading to dinner and shows.

FLtink - is the boat drill at 400pm and then sailaway at 430pm? Just wondering. If so 515pm sounds good to me.

Yup. That's what the schedule usually is I believe. The ship actually sets sail right around 5, and that's when they sound the horn for the first time and you don't want to miss that. That's why I think 5:15. We'll be on the way already.

And then maybe we want to plan on doing another one on Sunday morning before we arrive in Key West. That way, anyone that didn't make it to the first one still has a chance to meet. If that sounds good....a great place to use on Sunday would be Preludes, which is the lounge outside of the Walt Disney Theater. Because there are no shows then, the lounge will be completely empty.

I think my son would really like to meet some of his club-mates in advance!

I haven't checked these boards in several weeks and boy have I missed you guys!!!!! I forgot how fun it is to have other people as excited as I am about this trip!!! (My DH is excited, but a bit distracted right now with a big release they're putting together at work).

Shore excursions: we've booked the Xcaret Eco tour for Grand Cayman - sounds like a great mix of snorekeling, mayan culture, mayan ruins and lots of fun. Trying to decide on a Cozumel tour - there are three different stingray city snorkel options. One's just snorkeling, one is combined with a city tour, and the other is combined with a beach day. Anyone have suggestions which way I should jump (or should I say swim)?

Dinners & Dress: we are in the early seating. A little odd since we are a couple with no children, but its what my DH prefers. We'll be renting a tux for DH, and I'll bring a couple of dresses. I love dressing up, so here's my chance! And I'm hoping to get us dressed up for pirate night. I need to find the costumes I made a few years back and see if they still, um, fit. :)

I woke up this morning doing a happy dance realizing how close the vacaction is coming. My only fear is that a hurricane will close the Orlando airport on Friday, the day we're coming in. I figure as long as we can GET to Florida, we'll be on that cruise! :)

This sounds great! I know I've seen other groups making name tags with the alien green mickey mouse paint chips. Do we want to do this? And if we do, I could snag some from my local Home Depot if someone can't find them locally.

I am still up and I noticed that it is another day closer to our cruise, 34 days.
I am excited about the cruise and meeting all of you, would love to do a cruise meet, so are we planning 5:15 Sat. Also, I have seen on other post that people have boarded wearing green shirts, I am planning on wearing green that day, and the kids are to. What about you all?

5:15 works for us! My dd is 9 and going into the lab anyone else with a child near her age or going into the lab? I know she would love to meet some new friends! We are so excited I keep checking the DCL site every day to see if we've gotten a room assignment yet. Everybody have a great week and each day brings us closer to the CRUISE!!

Well, I don't think I have any green so we probably won't be doing that. But I'm going to try to drag the fiance and the rest of his family to the meet at 5:15 in th Promenade Lounge.

5 weeks from today, we'll be cruisin toward Key West! Oh, AND my wedding!!!!!!

Will you be getting married on the ship, or in Key West proper?
