Im in the planning process while free dining is on. Going with a 3 (almost 4) year old. Is it better in Sept (thinking might be hot/rainy?) or Nov.? As far as the weather and lowest crowds?

Also does anyone know if there are activities for Halloween/Christmas in the parks without attending the parties? Like are the decorations still up and characters dressed up/parades or only if you go to the extra party?

Thanks so much!!

Hi & Welcome to the Dis! I'm not sure about September, as this will be my first visit to the parks this coming fall. But i can share what is done for the holidays. Here's a great link: lots to do without having to pay for the party. in case you don't know- the party ticket general allows you to enter MK starting at 4pm. (the party starts at 7pm) this info might help you. (this applies to both the halloween & christmas party) http://allears.net/tp/holiday.htm

September will be much hotter, but crowds are quite low. November, avoiding Thanksgiving, is a great time weather wise, and crowds are not bad either. When the Christmas decorations go up (not sure when in November, I think very early), the whole place is engulfed in the Christmas magic. Touring the resorts to see the gingerbread houses is fun, Osborn lights is cool, seeing all the different Santas in Epcot is delightful, and my favorite is the Candle Light Procession. We have done the MVMCP and while it is fun, and we will repeat it at some time, it would certainly not be a deciding factor for us when deciding when to travel.
