Another encouraging story. :cool1:

Gary's going to handle talking to Cameron's school. :flower: I took care of Walker's school so it's only fair that Gary talks to Cameron's teacher. ;)

Another TOP!

Just how do these work? Is there a specific # of posts that fit on a page? Or does it depend on the length of the post?

Just curious. :daisy:

Good for you! This task is on my list of "things to do today".

We just started school yesterday and not only did Cameron come home from school with homework, but I had homework also. Good required reading for the parents -- 5th grade policies in writing. This is a first I've seen at this school. I had to sign that I was aware of where the teacher stood as well as what was expected of the kids. I'm not always a black/white issue type of person, but I think knowing the expectations ahead of time is a big plus.

Unfortunately, nothing in there about extended absences.

I'm just trying to decide whether an early morning phone call or an email is better? :worried: Any opinions? I'm kind of thinking the phone call is a bit more personal?

Homework already? I don't think I am ready for that yet.

I sent an email since Morgan is not starting school until Sept. 1. I won't be meeting the teacher before then and I wanted to give her enough time to get Morgan's missed assignments together.

A phone call would probably be good. The email was easy for me since I could gather my thoughts and put them down in writing.

It is such a relief to have it out of the way!

Yep, homework already. A "goals for 5th grade" paper he had to write along with the required 30 minutes a night reading (which Mom has upped to 45 minutes minimum).

My homework took at least 45 minutes to read through. There sure are a lot of rules. :faint:

I'm sure it's a relief and I'm sure it's going to be fine. I'm just suffering from "new teacher syndrome".....don't tell my son that. ;)

Wow! We shouldn't have that much since Morgan is only going into 2nd grade. I was shocked last year how much she actually had. The reading, math and spelling words! I felt like I was in school again! :teacher:

Can you imagine having to cancel this close to sail date? WOW! :(
I know, I was thinking the same thing. How SAD!!!

I hope not too. :goodvibes

Last year, Cameron had his tonsils out and missed 6 days of school. The teacher was really good about it and had a lot of the work ready before his surgery. When Cameron felt up to it, we worked on it a little at a time. Gee, there sure was a lot of catching up to do. I don't think until then I realized just went on during the day in school. I was exhausted trying to help him get through it. It was a learning experience.

Up until 4th grade, homework was more of a "habit forming" routine than a learning tool. At least that's what it seemed like to me. But then again, Cameron had the worst 3rd grade teacher I've ever seen. Still to this day, I cannot understand a teacher who would tell the kids they were having a test the next day on whatever, Cameron would study for it and come home the next day saying they "didn't have time" to take the test. How can that be? When I approached her on it, she told me if she didn't feel the entire class was ready, they would hold off until she felt they were ready? They never will ALL be ready -- that's just the way it goes. To put the other kids through the stress of that, I don't agree with.

Ahhh, so glad that Emily is only in preschool. I'll have to deal with all of that soon enough!!

Actually, in order to keep Emily healthy, Chris is suggesting that we keep her out of preschool the whole week before the cruise too. :goodvibes

My DH said that Morgan should go to school with gloves and a mask. She is good at picking up a "bug" before a trip. We spent a lot of time in our villa during our Easter trip this past March. I blame it on a B-day party Morgan went to the night before leaving for vacation! She was sick for 3 days and Allie was then sick for 1! We took turns going to the pool and going to dinner. Luckily we had a 2-bedroom and my parents were with us to trade off. Plus the washer and dryer were heavily used. It wasn't pretty!

I'm sending Morgan to school with antibacterial hand wipes and everyone is going to be getting a lot of rest! I don't want another trip like our last one.

Ok, an update on the Key West electric cars. I have had the following people confirm that they still want to rent cars in KW.

I totally know what you mean. At the beginning of the summer, both Emily and Madison had the rotovirus, TWICE!!! It was awful!!! At the very end of it all, Madison was still a little sick and I was scheduled to be out of town at a scrapbook convention and Chris was to take the girls to WDW. He took them, but on the 2nd day, my mom ended up with it too. YUCK!!!

And, Emily just started school last week, and had a fever by Friday. If she's even remotely sick at all at the beginning of the week, next week, she's staying home all week to get better.

One of our trips while Cameron was in 3rd grade was the day after a required choral performance. We were in the audience as Cameron's grade got up to sing. Next thing we see is the girl standing right around Cameron getting sick all over the stage. :earseek: As sorry as I felt for the girl, I felt more sorry for us thinking of things to come.

Fortunately, somehow, Cameron missed out on all of that.

Our one and only night at OKW was because Walker came down with a stomach thing and we were afraid to drive home for fear of what might happen.

Here's good vibes for everyone health!! :goodvibes If anyones going to get sick, do it now so there's still time to recooperate! :goodvibes

We have never had that here -- somehow I wonder why we've been lucky to avoid it with all the daycare kids here. (I hope I didn't just jinx myself  ). I hear from other daycare provider friends that it's one nasty sickness and that a lot of younger kids end up having to be hospitalized because of it. :(

Start pumping the vitamin C! Lots of hand washing and lots of rest. I refuse to let anyone get sick. We all need to be healthly to enjoy every minute of this trip.

Waiting to talk to my DH about it. He's out of town until Friday evening. Don't know if he wants to rent a cart or bike. Will let you know in a couple of days.

Both of mine were within hours of being hospitalized with the rotovirus. We were told that if they didn't start keeping food down within "x" number of hours, they would have to go to the hospital for fluids. And, by the grace of God, both of them turned around and they were ok.

No problem, we don't need to know until next week.

I just saw an announcement in the Orlando Business Journal about Disney On Ice presents Pizar's The Incredibles in a Magic Kingdom Adventure that is debuting on September 9. Evening shows also on September 10 and 11 including an 11:30 am show on September 10. Tickets are $14, $31, and $36. I got tickets in row H in Section 101, which is in the center of one side of the oval. Row H is the 8th row, so not bad for $14. A-G is $31. $36 is two rows of seating on the floor. They have a $3 discount for groups of 20 or more. What a wonderful and MAGICAL way to end the cruise!!

Here's the OBJ article:

New Disney on Ice show to feature the Magic Kingdom
The new Disney on Ice show will showcase Walt Disney World Resort's Magic Kingdom theme park.

The story line centers on the animated Parr family from Disney/Pixar feature film "The Incredibles" taking a trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando. It features the family's vacation visit to the Magic Kingdom and uses a variety of the park's themed attractions, such as Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion as backdrops.

The show, produced by Vienna, Va.-headquartered Feld Entertainment Inc., kicks off in Lakeland with a pre-premiere performance Sept. 2. A gala opening event is planned for Sept. 9 at the T.D. Waterhouse Centre in Orlando.

The touring show will stop in more than 65 North American cities in the next 12 months before moving internationally.

A new interactive feature allows children in the audience a chance to use a special light up wristband as part of the show.

The program concludes with a Main Street, USA parade featuring the Disney characters.
