That brings up the questions....

Would you EVER do a reality TV show?
If so, which one?
How do you think you'd "play" it...i.e. what would your strategy be?

We really enjoy watching the Amazing Race. I would like to be on it but...there is no way we would make it. I can be a big chicken and my DH has a bad sense of direction.

Ok for all you 10/11 day cruisers next year... I am keeping up with the Repo thread and it looks like they were offering a $500 credit for one or both of those sailings for next year if booked onboard. Can you use that if you already booked? (I'm curious as we are not cruising in 06 but may in 07 and I wanted to know how it works if we book and then move the booking).

Okay, now that the GTKYFC has been explained, please tell me what TOP means again? Thanks!

The one reality show I actually downloaded a form for and started to fill out was the Mole, which they cancelled and then redid as Celebrity Mole which was interesting, but not even close to the original! Of current ones, I would love to help find a deserving family on the Extreme Makeover Home Edition and help make their lives better.

I have not kept up with this thread but am interested to know if anyone from the Philadelphia area is going on the cruise. We are from Delaware County and this is our first cruise. It is in celebration of our 35th Wedding Anniversary (8/29) and we are so looking forward to it. Have tried to get reservations to Palo and massages but were not successful when calling. Hope to at least get Palo when we get on the ship. We are staying at OKW the night before and the night after before flying home in time for my mom's 90 th birthday!! Wish we could have brought her too. Hope to hear from some cruisers from Philly.

Oh I really liked the MOLE show!

TOP is when you get the top of a new page on the thread.

and, while I've got you, please could someone tell me what GTKYKFC means? (I think those are the letters...something about getting to know you kentucky fried chicken??)

How about GTKYFC? I got tired of typing it all out -- so I started abbreviated it ---

Get To Know Your Fellow Cruiser

Although I like Mary's

My kids and I watch Fear Factor together. I usually step out of the room during the really gross parts. We've kidded around about doing a mother/son competition but it will never happen. I can guarantee that --- although someday my boys hope to do the brother show.

Gary's cousin was on the first (I think) season of Survivor. Not that he really knows her as she grew up in Nebraska and he grew up here in Illinois. But, it's kind of neat to be related to someone. Although when she went on to pose for Playboy, I'm sure my MIL wasn't too pleased with her neices choices.

In the spirit of getting to know each other and trying to get to 10,000 posts, here is a question for all of you...

If you won $1,000,000.00 what would you do with it? Rules are:

  1. You have to spend the entire amount
  2. You can't put the money into savings or a non-material investment
  3. You must spend at least $250,000.00 on yourself/your household (can't be for kids college etc...)

Maybe... I'd only consider Amazing Race - I'd have to have a way to escape the crazy people! :rotfl2:

I'd play it as straight as possible. I wouldn't be cruel, but I'd be there to win. LOL, think of it as somewhere between the strategy of Chip and Kim and Rob and Amber.

I would NOT whine about how people aren't being "fair". It's a game people! My sil and I were talking about this, and we think that dh and dbil would make a great team on AR. They really balance each other out. DH and I would either do really well or end up on a Prime Time Dr. Phil Special ("What did you do???" "And how'd that work for you???")... :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Okay, this is the one show I most definitely would NOT be on. I don't see the allure in doing half of the things they do for the "possibility" of winning $50,000.00. If you want me to eat pureed maggots, you better bring out the big bucks!

Well, you could always look into the Sept 8th 3 day Wonder cruise...back to back. That at least gives you 7 days! :)

Well.....we were originally staying until Sept. 11, but now Jamie (dd 13) has to be home by Saturday morning the 10th for a cheerleader yard sale, and a final dress rehearsal for a huge convention she is singing/dancing in on Sept. 17.

She needs to be in grade school. School things NEVER got in the way of our vacations then!

She also informed me that this is the last cruise she could probably take during school since "you know mom......cheerleading comes first".

WHATEVER.........................

more money left for me to spend!!!!

Okay, this is after taxes, right? That takes care of a good portion of it.

I'll give it a shot.

Since my kids are pretty set in this area and don't usually want to move, I'd look into a tear down on our existing property and rebuild a bigger house. Something we should have done long ago, moved up, but somehow didn't want to uproot. At this point, it's almost a bit late.

Next would be to secure the futures of both my mom and MIL. My Mom lives in a nice assisted living facility -- but it gets pricey out of pocket. My MIL is another story. Although she could afford to sell her property and move on, she's stuck where she is by her choice. I'd find a way to allow her to live where she's at with much, much better accommodations (see I don't really dislike her all that much, she's just a PITA and a head case a lot of the time).

Gary also has a brother with Down Syndrome that I would secure his living arrangements for his lifetime.

My brother is currently living in a mental health facility. Someday he may learn to live on his own, in which case, part of my money would go towards his future living expenses for his lifetime.

Heart association is a big one for us with all the heart attack deaths in our family -- my Dad at 60, my brother at 48, Gary's brother at 38, Dad's Dad at 70, my mom having a stroke, my sister having caroided artery disease. They would definately get some funds.

Any left? I'd buy some property someplace between here and Florida. As much as I could so that someday, we'd have a place to retire and enough room for the kids to build their own retirement/vacation homes on but still feel as if we are far enough apart from each other to have our own space.

As far as reality shows go, DH and DD would like to audition for the Amazing Race, but DD isn't old enough yet. Contestants must be 21, and she will be 20 in Nov. I think they would make a great team because DH is very good at directions (it's the Eagle Scout in him) and DD is not afraid to try any stunts that involve heights or spinning, like the zip lines.

Also, several pages back someone speculated about who might be on the ship that was at the opening ceremonies for Disneyland. Julie Andrews was mentioned, but the first name that came to my mind was Art Linkletter. DH and I saw him on Larry King Live about a month ago, and even though he's in his 90's, he seemed to be very spry. I loved him as a child on his TV show and even read "Kids Say the Darndest Things." If I still had those books, I'd take them along for an autograph "Just in case."

Amy - thanks for the info on the cars and we are still interested! Do we need to provide our payment information now? Let me know.
No payment info needed. You'd just pay them when we get to KW. They are just going to reserve the number of cars that we need.

ROFLMBO... this was our dd's reaction to WDW trips in hs until we left her home for a trip. :rolleyes1 Funny how their opinions start changing when they realize that you don't really feel inconvenienced, and you have the audacity to have a good time without them. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I would get on the Disney Magic and take all my disboard friends on an EXTENDED cruise for as long as the money lasted.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Linda

P.S. I get the Walt Suite!

Oh....and while I am at it.....one more thing............

I'd make sure that while we were on the ship that we all got to blow the Mickey Whistle and all of us adults from the disboards got to get special permission to go down the Mickey slide (more than once!)
