Happy day everyone.
Has it been decided if we are doing Character Brfst or not? I know there was talk of not doing it d/t character meal conflict.
Are the lanyards still a go?

As far as I am aware the lanyards are a go... In fact I am sorta in charge of them..if I remember right :rolleyes1 :rotfl: Guess I should get on the ball. I remember when we og booked it was 16 months till the cruise..now it is 9 and it is rushing by. I need to make a new to do list. I say yes for the breakfast :thumbsup2 I was wondering how many of us are making the door magnet signs? Our door will be filled :yay: :yay: off to research lanyards. :lovestruc

Howdy Howdy.

Hope everyone is well.

I have decided when I win the lottery I will make it a tradition to cruise this week over new years.

Why the week over New Years?

I know this question might be somewhat personal...but if you wouldn't mind answering I would love to know how the rest of you feel.

Are any of you feeling guilty about spending so much money on a cruise in this economy? I mean do you secretly think "I really should be saving these $$$$'s" Or "Gosh I could do xyz with all this money" Are any of you not telling certain friends or family that your going, because of their reaction? How often do most of us cruise? We typically go on a cruise every 18-24 months. This will be our 7th cruise..3rd with Disney. Lastly are you all faithful to Disney? Have you, or are you thinking of cruising on another line? For kicks we checked out RCCL last night after seeing an advertisement and we could get a 618 square foot suite with an additioanl 189 square foot balcony for the same price for that we are paying for our up coming cruise, and 4K less then we did for this past Junes mexico cruise. Sorry for so many questions just wondering how you all are thinking.

Do I feel guilty for spending the money? NO! :) We work hard and we deserve it. I have not been on a cruise before, but have had so many people tell me that once I go on a Disney cruise none of the others compare. So, I feel it is worth the extra $$$ to go on Disney rather than a booze soaked gambling boat.

Also, I feel that a trip is a great investment in your family. You are away from the house, together, enjoying each other and making memories. So I don't feel that money spent on a cruise (or any other family vacation) isn't as well spent if you'd spent it on material things.

Also...I don't think the economy as a whole is all that bad. We still have hiring signs etc all around town. Being from MI, I know what bad REALLY is, and most of the nation is NO WHERE near that. And being in the banking industry, we know a lot of inside information about the failures, etc. A lot of it is due to years of hiding losses etc and was bound to come down sometime (actually, I'm surprised it wasn't sooner).

Rebecca, the answer to all of that is; no. No, I do not feel guilty. No, I do not not tell people about having the cruise coming up. I might hide the disney-part a bit, but that's more because of 'been there, done that, fed up with it' from hearing people judging it. Faithfull? Yes. Why? Because of their reputation. Sure, other lines can offer great itineraries at lower prices but they also come with a (lot) higher number of bad incident reports when it comes to them dealing with special needs. While I haven't done DCL personally yet, I have done WDW. And both trips, sure enough, problems arose and Disney took care above and beyond. Am actually still talking to a manager at the moment about a change in beds they had at one of the resorts that don't work well with my wheelchair. I am very willing to pay for proper service.

Why am I not feeling guilty? Because I have deserved it, period. Travel is one of my big passions and one thing I have learned in life is to act now and not tomorrow. Nobody knows what tomorrow brings and if they'll even still be around. Safe money? Maybe, but than again, if banks are going to collaps anyway, I'ld rather be cruising. ;)

Cruising is way too expensive for my income, it's as simple as that. However, if I look at what it gives me in non-material stuff I consider it well worth it. Not only does it give the memories and acting out dreams, but for me they actually give me enough hope, strength and happiness to last another year on. This sounds sooooo sobbing, but travel has a higher meaning for me. Not just what it stands for on it's own and what it will let me go home with, but it's something to focus on. I am travel obsessed and as such always working on a next goal. It's a passion that simply sticks out. Never mind whatever not so nice stuff my health may give me, I'll deal with it. Never mind, my focus is on the cruise.

Nop. Life is too short, too unpredictable. Don't dream, do. Not tomorrow, but today. Well, that's my motto anyway.

I can't judge for your family of course. Only you can. Act upon what feels good for your family. Don't think about outsiders, as they'll always have some kind of judgment, never mind what you do or don't.

And after that sobstuff :scared: ;

great 2009 to everyone! Finally we'll be within the same year as the cruise. :cool1: Only a little more than 24 hours for me. :woohoo:

No!! I don't feel the least bit guilty going on this cruise. This is my 6th cruise, all with Disney. I tell people this is all I do during the and it takes me a year to pay for it.
So far I have no desire to go on any other cruise line. I am not a party animal and like the laid back atmosphere the Disney ship has. If I want to gamble I'll go to Vegas or Niagra Falls. BUT!!!!! The difference in price makes me wonder. I do know Disney Cruise Line gets high ratings.

No, I don't feel guilty. We are using this trip as celebration of a big milestone (30th b-day for me). We scheduled it this far in advanced to not have to worry about the cost and save a little at a time. My husband would like to try another but I'm totally into Disney so this is our 3rd Disney cruise.

All I can say is "Ditto" to all the above. No, we do not feel guilty for above stated reasons. Sometimes I don't talk about it with certain friends/family members because a cruise is something they would/could never do and not that I come across this way, but, I don't want to seem like I'm bragging about the trip. Even though I'm so excited about it, I can't stand it!

Yes, we could probably go cheaper on another cruise line, but, why? THIS IS DISNEY!!! They SO take care of you! Cleanliness abounds and very kid friendly. Even with alcohol available on the ships, we have never had to worry about what our kids heard or saw. We have only cruised Disney, but, we aren't even interested in trying another line.

It's like I've seen so many times on these boards: some people just don't understand til they experience it for themselves.

Alright, I just did some counting and so far it seems we have 17 cabins equaling 53 ppl participating in the fish extenders! This breaks down to 16 males, 20 females, 13 girls, and 4 boys. I am starting to think about the gifts (early I know, but the early shopper gets the best deals!) and thought the gender and age ratio may make a difference in some of the items exchanged (after all, most little boys don't like princess: tattoos, etc).

Anyone not currently listed on page 9 joining the swap??? :cool1:

For those who haven't noticed yet; I'm not awake yet. Posted something based on 1 adult instead of 3, not too smart. ;)

Happy New Year Everybody!!!

I guess I need to do some housekeeping here and catch on posts from last year.:lmao: Man, I crack myself up.

No, I don't feel guilty about cruising. We consider ourselves a "travel family", it's what we do and how we like to spend time as a family. On this cruise we are lucky to be traveling with two families that we are very close to, so there is always someone to talk Disney Cruise.

I am still up in the air about Fish extenders, leaning toward a yes though.

Lastly, I am putting up the "Bat Signal", someone PM'd Kimmy Sue and she doesn't have enough posts to send PMs yet, so if you wouldn't mind PM me and I will get you her email address.

We are very faithful to Disney...we have cruised 2 other lines and they just CAN NOT compare..they are usually filled with smoke, drunks, and a huge casino. We also do not tell certain family for the same reason. As many of you know DH was out of work for over 5 months and we came close to loosing our home, but by the grace of God hubby finally got a contract and we saved our home in the nick of time. It wasn't until he was offered a side contract literally for the same amount that the cruise cost..and with over $900 in obc we don't have to save up much at all.

I am so thankful that all of us are able to be on the ship together and enjoy the fruits of our labor. :lovestruc

What do I have to do to particapte in fish extenders? Breakfast with characters? and what ever else is planned. This is our 1st cruise and 10th anniversary. Already planning on buying a GOOD camera for trip. What about dinner reservations, how do I go about that? Would like to do early as kids are in tow.
thanks fourgonefishn

The Fish Extenders [FE] exchange is very simple. Just notify the person in charge that you wan to participate and she will add you to the list. Then make/buy a FE which you can find REALLY cute ones on ebay. As for the small gifts you can hit the dollar store, ebay, walmart, Target dollar section is REALLY cool or even some cataglogs have some great stuff in them. I don't remember if we decided to do just for the kids, or the families or?? Someone please remind me. :lovestruc

As for dinner reservations I assume you are talking about Palo? You will be able to sign up for Palo once your cruise is paid off in full and you have 60 days left till the cu rise? Again someone help me:rotfl: , since she hasn't cruised DCL before she has a shorter time right? And you will simply go to the DCL web site and go to your reservation and you will be able to sign up for Palo and any excursions you want. You can research the excursions before hand on their web site as well. :thumbsup2

As for early dinning when your cruise docs arrive it will say what dinning slot you have been given. If you don't want that time, once you are on board you can go to the Head Server and request a change. We also normally do the early, since we have 4 kids, but since this time we are leaving out of Florida and we live in California we asked for late or else it will feel like we are eating dinner at 3pm with the time difference.

If you have any other questions PLEASE feel free to ask. At least one of us will, well should :lmao: have the answer. One way to "feel" like your ready and prepared [at least for me] is to start/have my Cruise to do list...which includes what to pack, what docs to bring, all of our reservations for hotel, flight, rental car, etc...and then all of our paper work for the cruise, flight, hotel etc... Things I need to do before the cruise,,,i.e... shop for kids, buy sea sick med's, get new underwear :upsidedow don't want to be in a strange place with old/holey underwear  get room service bills from the bank, etc...etc...etc.... Hope all of this helps you. Have a great Monday. :woohoo:

I have added you to the fish extender (FE) list. If you know your cabin numbers, please get that to me also so I can update your info.

Happy day everyone.

Are the lanyards still a go?

Are you talking about the PJ Breakfast? If so, I need to take a poll and see what the majority want to do. One suggestion was to have it early on the morning of Castaway Cay. I will have to get in touch with DCL and go thru the process to see if we can even do it.

Please check page 9 .... see the link in my signature line below...to see if I have all your correct information such as names, cabin numbers, FE participation, ages of children. This information helps us to know who we are traveling with and also for the FE gifts.

Cant believe we are cruising THIS YEAR!!! Like the earlier post said, when we boooked the cruise, it was well over a year away, now it is 8 months away and still have so much to do!!! :scared1:
It will be here before we know it.:cool1:
