Sept. 26,2009 Magic part 2

Glad to hear that Disney is hearing and working on your issues! That is the Disney I know! Your input is extremely valuable in shaping the way for future cruisers with disabilities, albeit unfortunate what you experienced personally. I hope it all works out in the end and you are happy with the resolution process! :thumbsup2 Keep us in the loop!

We will! :thumbsup2 Was soooo afraid they would throw us the "yeah, but the door is functioning" and the "but we could've opened it for you" cr*p some folks and CM's seem to think makes it all more then swell. But no such thing, luckily.

Now for the harder decisions to make. For fun, I looked into the Alaskan prices and was surprised to find out they more or less shocked me how 'cheap' they are when doing them solo. Basically same price as the WBTA 2011, for same cat. stateroom. Was expecting WAY more. Now I'm like shall I switch the WBTA to the Alaskan or not. Both have so many pros and cons. Not to mention the expensive airfare for both. :headache::rolleyes1

Wow, decisions, decisions!!! :lmao: I'd love to do WBTA, but too many days to leave kiddos at home! (and certainly not affordable for us x 6 to bring them along--especially with the airfare!) :rotfl2: We booked the Alaska June 21 cruise onboard, and now I'm hitting myself for not booking a shorter 3 night for 2010. Bigferrell and I have done a 3 night the past two Mays w/o rugrats. Oh well, I guess I lose the discounts and Disney gets the money; no surprises there!

Boy yeah airfare times 6. Yeiks! Can sympathize with being bummed out about not booking both while aboard. I'm already having a hard time about the above and that is with the knowledge of having the Panama also booked (probably will end up having to decide between the two, but still..). Does Jackie spell spoiled, you reckon? ;)

The Alaskan will be with the kids, I reckon? Loved meeting some of them. :)

Well I didn't get to meet most of you (my wife did, however), but this has been fun planning and couting down together. For all of that anticipation, it seemed to go by so fast. But as the saying goes, time flies when you're having fun, right?

I say let's all drop in to this thread from time to time and post any future bookings (or planned bookings) and who knows - we may end up on a future sailing some day!

Take care...

Did some DIS research on the Disney Dream today and it looks like everyone is speculating 3/4 day itineraries. :( I was really hoping to do a 7 day. Guess we'll find out for sure on October 29th. Fingers crossed.

Well, I guess there is always a back-to-back on the Dream to make a 7-night cruise - LOL. :thumbsup2

Made it home Saturday evening. Went to take the memory card out of my camera and realized the camera is GONE! :confused3

Oh, no!! I'm so sorry. I'm starting my trip report (link below) which will be filled with pictures and you are more than welcome to nab pictures that you see.

They also offered compensation in the form of our choice (shipboard credit for future cruise and/or refund right now). Don't know what to think of the amount offered yet. Can not decide for Lieske anyway, nor would I want to. ;)

Well, that's great that they are offering something!! Still, I'm sure that you would have rather had the verandah that you paid for!! :sad2:

Nope, the Alaskan is adult only. We need to figure out when we will spoil the kids with Disney again. This was our last trip to pull them out of school, and I am definately NOT a go in the summer heat kind of gal!!! We've done the holidays but are so spoiled by Sept-Nov when the parks are dead and the weather is nice.

We'll see.:confused3

Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry to read your post. I can imagine how heartbreaking. Let me tell you...we went through the video on Sunday. The video was so precious to me. I felt so bad that I had complained about each time Ernie was taking video, but was so happy to have that video of the trip. What type of media does your video record on (tape, memory card?). With our last camera we used tape to record video, Ernie would digitally upload it to our computer and we were able to extract photos from the video. It's much easier to do it now because the video is now on a memory card. Just an idea.

Our video camera uses a SD card. Not sure how to do any fancy stuff with that. It is all new to me.

Welcome home everyone! Hope everyone had a great time! So sad we didn't get to meet all of you, but those we did meet we really enjoyed spending time together! Jodi, Juli, Chlynn: wasn't parasailing the best :woohoo:

And special greetings to Melody, Nathan, Bryce, Seth and anyone else Cameron and Jenna spent time with in the clubs. They are still talking about their new friends so I hope we can keep the email connections up to some degree at least :cutie:

Made it home Saturday evening. Went to take the memory card out of my camera and realized the camera is GONE! :confused3 It was left in a seat by the baggage claim in Chicago. I spent all of Sunday calling to see if anyone turned it in. :mad:Of course it will never be seen again. I had over 400 pictures on there. If anyone has pictures from Castaway Cay and pictures from around the ship that they can post I would really appreciate it. We have about 125 pictures from our video camera and all of the stuff I recorded. My daughter cried for hours because she was holding it and she left it there. Oh well, at least we have all of great memories. Thanks for all of the great FE gifts!

OMG! :scared1: You are handling this so well! I would be a basket case at the thought of losing so many pix. I haven't sorted through all ours yet but when I do you are certainly welcome to any you like. :lovestruc

We are scared to take the kids out of school again, too :rolleyes1 And I'm with you: I refuse to do Disney during busy times like school breaks and rediculously hot times like summer. We rebooked Alaska on 8/16/2011 which should be the week before the kids go back to school. We are planning to visit New Zealand in 2010 so not sure if we will get any other vacation time that year. But really attracted to the idea of the Dream :cloud9: so maybe 3/4 days will work for us - will see.

Good stuff: food was better than I anticipated, enjoyed spending time in Rockin Bar D at night without the kids ;) the comedians and musicians were very entertaining, dressing up for formal night (dont get to do that often)

Great stuff: the shows (as usual) were excellent, dinner at palo - nuf said, parasailing on CC, Trunk bay on St John, kids had an excellent time in the clubs w/ their new friends

Not So Great: that thunderstorm on CC could have been shorter and slightly less wet :lmao: the bar bill, trying to comfort my DD5 as she walked off the ship crying that she didn't want to leave (when I really just wanted to cry along with her)

Just got back yesterday after seeing the Blue Man Group on Saturday and 2 days at Universal Studios. THe Blue Man show was great, but Universal was a little underwhelming for us. I guess we're just diehard Disney freaks.

I'm very dissapointed that we didn't rebook while onboard, but the Mediteranean prices were a little ridiculous I thought and we don't have any interest in going to Alaska. I guess Disney is just out for us next year as I have no iterest in the 3 and 4 night cruises

Unfortunately I've been searching Royal Carribean and Norwegian and can't find anything that really works for our dates on them either. I did find 2 cruises on Carnival, one on the Dream and one on the Freedom that sound interesting. Has anyone ever done a cruise on either of those ships. The kids weren't really interested in the Characters this year anyway, and when they saw pictures of the waterpark and minigolf they went crazy.

Most of cruise pics are up on my facebook acct. If your not a Fb friend of mine feel free to request to be.

hey everyone, we got back late Monday night. Then spent 4 hours on Tuesday morning at Kaiser with 3 sick kids and myself. All of us started getting sick right after St. Marteen. Nothing to bad...just ear infections and upper respiratory virus. We also re-booked on board for Nov 6th of next year on the Magic doing the Eastern again. We loved St. Marteen and REALLY loved the ATV adventure. DID NOT like St. Thomas not only was the heat and humidity AWFUL for me, but we got TAKEN. I had booked with Papa Bear...Air force 1 tours. We, we waited under the tent thingy like the "guard?" told us to do, then he said "Ok Papa Bear is here....go get on that bus". We got on and the driver asked us if we were going on the tour? We said "Yes" and asked him if he was a driver for Papa Bear...he said "yes and pointed to another man in a green shirt and said "thats him over there". Papa bears bus was full so we would have to ride with this man. DH asked him several times, "but we will still be able to go on the tour that we BOOKED ONLINE right?" The man SWORE we would. So we take off with just the 7 of us. He takes us on this LAME tour with no narration. We made like 4 LAME "go buy something" stops, then within an hour he drops us off back at the ship. :scared1: We are still sitting on the bus thinking "oh he must need to pick up some other folks" Well, he gets out of the driver seat and says "you can get off now"...We were like "UUUMMM this isn't the tour that we booked" He was like "What tour? I don't have a website..I am an independant taxi driver" WHAT? WHAT? DH was like "We asked you if you worked with air force 1 and you said yes." He said "Yes I know Papa Bear and he told me to take you cause he was full, but I don't do his tours". So after DISCUSSING the issue and finding out he was NOT taking us to Coki beach or on any other "real" tour he charged us $175 and said "Have a nice day".:headache::sad1: The kids were sooo upset and it was sooooo hot that we just all went back on board and ate at Topsiders and swam for a while. We will NEVER EVER EVER book with Air Force 1 again.

Anyway on to more positive thoughts... All of the FE gifts were GREAT, but I gotta say that on our last full day we "ran" into BigFerral and his wife in the elevator, and they were like "did you not get your secret Mickey gift" I was like "No, but I gave out mine to MaryAnn" Who just also happened to be in the same elevator with us. She LOL and said how much she loved the gifts. Well, Big tells me that the person they had ended up not coming...and that person was supossed to have my name for the exchange. So they asked if they could give me the gift they got for that person. I said they didnt' have to, but came back to my cabin and they had already droped it off..... Well, fate must have stepped in cause I LOVED IT...IT TOTALLY ROCKED AND WAS TOTALLY ALL ME. They gave me one of the large DCL wooden photo frame, and this REALLY cool completed scrapbook album..where you just add your photo and write in the journal area. I started to cry cause it was all so nice.:love:

Well I really am not feeling to well, and need to go...but will be back on later to finish up all my thoughts. Will miss you all. Big :grouphug:

hSt. Thomas not only was the heat and humidity AWFUL for me, but we got TAKEN.

I LOVED IT...IT TOTALLY ROCKED AND WAS TOTALLY ALL ME.

Hey Rebecca, Glad you finally made it home. I am still having cold/cough symptoms myself, but figure it is viral as it was for the kids before we went on vacation.

So sorry to hear about your St. Thomas experience. The same thing ALMOST happened to us with the ATV thing in ST. Maarten. A guy told Jim that he was with the ATV guy and kept trying to persuade us to get in his car. We refused to do it, and the guard called the ATV guy and then pointed him out when he got there. That is the only plus to doing excursions through the cruiseline. There are a lot of guys out there looking for a quick buck, and they'll take you in an instant!

So glad you liked the Secret Mickey gifts. I'm sorry we couldn't get you the other gifts, but they would have not been age appropriate anyhow, as the family we had (that was your Secret Mickey) had a 5 year old boy and 10 month old girl. So I'm sure the people in the cabin were puzzled as to why they kept getting bags of goodies hung on their fish! :lmao: I'm glad that they refused the last package so we were able to figure out that something was not right! :thumbsup2

Take care and feel better!

Great summary FatCat. You reminded me several things, so I have a few comments as it pertains to us...I capitalized my comments within FatCats. Sorry if it seems like I'm yelling. I'm not.

FatCat Summary

-Enjoyed the Fish extender gifts. DITTO
-Liked St Marteen a lot. HATED ST. MAARTEN. WHERE DO I GO NEXT TIME TO HAVE A BETTER EXPERIENCE? BEACH NEAR THE SHIP WAS HORRIBLE!
-St Thomas was way too hot that day and kids were already a bit sleep deprived from St Marteen so would like to re-explore it. TRY MORNINGSTAR BEACH. AMAZING, NICE BREEZE THAT DAY, NOT AT ALL CROWDED. WE LOVED IT!! BEST DAY ON THE CRUISE. BUT BRING YOUR OWN FOOD OR PLAN TO EAT AT SHIP. VERY $$$ TO EAT.
-Met a lot of Disers but never remembered anyones name. DITTO
-Bill was about $1300 inclduding excursions and gratuity so within budget $1200 FOR US
-Drank more this cruise than any other. WISH I COULD SAY THE SAME. DRANK A LOT LESS BUT NO HANGOVERS. THAT'S A FIRST.
-Liked the barecuda at castaway cay that came to visit. SAW YOU RIGHT AFTER YOU SAW IT.
-Did anyone smoke the cigars I handed out??? DIDN'T GET ONE. THANKS A LOT.
-Our servers were in top 2 that we have ever had. DITTO
-Good Head Server as well. AFTER I QUESTIONED THIS POSITION BEFORE THE CRUISE, WE ENDED UP HAVING AN AMAZING HEAD SERVER, MACLEAN. HE DESERVED EVERY PENNY OF HIS TIP.
-Seafood buffet has to go. WHY????
-Only one issue with Bill. Laundry machines overcharged our cards. HOW MUCH WERE THEY SUPPOSED TO CHARGE. I THOUGHT $2.00 FOR JUST THE WASHER SEEMED PRICEY.
-Enjoyed Eastern itinerary over Western. I'M 50:50 RIGHT NOW. CAN DO WITHOUT GRAND CAYMEN AND ST. MAARTEN. SO JUST HAVE TO DECIDE IF I LIKE ST. THOMAS BETTER THAN COZUMEL. THAT'S TOUGH.
-Kids are addicted to Vinylmations. EXPLAIN THESE TO ME. I AM NOT GETTING IT!
-Became a fan of Big Block Jenga. DH AND I ROCKED THIS GAME DURING THE THUNDER/RAINSTORM IN CC. WE WERE ALONE IN DIVERSIONS AND DIDN'T GET TO SHOW OFF TO ANYONE.
-I nicely volunteered my seat at Twice Charmed for a late coming family who wanted to see it and was forced to sit in Diversions during show. I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND HOW THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH SEATS FOR AN ENTIRE SEATING. I MEAN DISNEY IS KNOWN FOR THEIR SHOWS. DOESN'T EVERYONE GO? WE NEVER GO SEE SHOWS, BUT OF COURSE WE WOULD ON DISNEY. IT WAS FRUSTRATING TO STUGGLE TO FIND A SEAT.

:goodvibes Ok saw all of your good list and thought I would throw mine out there.

GOOD: Having a verandah for the first time. Attending the pirate party for the first time. Taking the time to do more first time things...such as going to see a few of the movies.. Up, Nature earth, Surrogates. The Golden MIckeys, Disney Dreams. Watching the huge thunder storm from our verandah at Castaway Cay. Enjoying that kids are older and allowing them to have check in/out by them selves..and not being attached to that dang pager LOL. The "new" Cruise Director..we missed Brent..but got to see him a few times around the ship.

GREAT: Palo Brunch. Our severs which we requested for the second time..and will for the third next Nov..Leo and Cindy Our cabin host who never seemed fazed by the MASSIVE mess that 3 adults and 4 kids can make. ATV's in St. Marteen, the GEORGOUS Orient Beach on the ATV tour. Brunch at Palo. Secret Mickey gifts. Watching the fireworks in DH's arms on deck 9. Having an aft cabin which forced us to walk a lot more. Jeff Civillo would pay to see him in Vegas. Re-booking for next Nov. The endless fresh fruit at goofys galley.

NOT SO GOOD: The quality of food overall...from breakfast at topsiders, to most of the dinners in the dinning rooms..in fact I actually lost 1 1/2 pounds..which is a drop in the bucket LOL but a loss nevertheless. The so called island tour in St. Thomas. The TON of preschool kids. The tons and tons of strollers EVERYWHERE and if one more not watching parent runs into my heels again I'm gonna loose it. Not having a great/fun group of disers on the Nov 6th thread...I gonna miss all of you. :sad1::sad1:

You're going again in Nov. Rebecca? Good for you! So glad to hear the Secret Mickey thing more or less worked out in the end. When Karen started to have suspicions something was not going as it should be, it gave me the feeling of a rock in my stomach. Thumbs up for saving what was left of the mess, Karen! :)

Good:
The upgrade of rental from Budget
Fun group of Disers Making me feel welcome
FE goodies
The Secret Mickey gifts once they came
The drinks from bars
the shows
our new fav cabin
Our servers
Traveling with Danny and Jodi
Port Orleans RS precruise ( I wanna go back)

Not so good:
The mess with FE gifts getting to correct rooms
The heat
The walk into town on St. Thomas
The under 2 flags tour on St. Marteen
The way our cabin look first 2 days (suitcases everywhere)
Feeling like I didn't do a lot of things I really wanted to do related to scrapbook
Danny getting into trouble twice on islands
missing cabin tours because I forgot about them
Missing last Castaway club party because of time conflict, Jodi has never been to one
BAD:
The charging of gas even though I filled tank before return NO more AVIS for me
Getting lost leaving All stars on return to airport even though I've drivin it before

[DH writing] Sorry to hear about the troubles with mobility on the ship and the CM reactions. We have gone in the past with DMIL (on a scooter and wheelchair) and had little problem, but we are interested in hearing about the challenges and remedies.

And the real-life horror stories about being taken are useful to hear, so we can learn from your "paid" experience. Thx!

We enjoyed every minute and found a full week (a first for us) was truly plenty of time at sea and shore to relax, have fun, eat, and sleep. Is it obvious, we finally had our first cruise alone for just the TWO of us! No kids nor parents - this could be addictive...

DM2008, et al: Have our cruise pics online now and my TR is embedded in the photo comments - many are generic, so take what you like of islands, sunsets, Palo, food, and the ship (also have many from past trips, but 'twas the Wonder not Magic).

GOOD: Food & service - good enough to gain a few pounds and enjoy a few chats with the staff. Shows are better than the other ships, but our all time fave is Hercules - the Wonder production was superlative! Good beaches, knowledgeable & friendly driver on land, and fine co-cruisers to travel along side (including the San Diegans and their strummer). Leaving ship is not the greatest joy, but it is the smoothest debarkin' in the cruise industry - beats ALL the others by miles and ablates some of the crankiness that can set in when vacations end...

GREAT: Palo - always a high point (both dinner and brunch)! That ship is the loveliest afloat! Veranda - so, that is WHY folks actually LIKE to be in their staterooms (we rarely stopped on Deck 4 and never stopped on old secret fave on 7). Cabin tour - BIG thx for all who planned and offered their rooms - twas good to see the selection live and realize that I am happy w/o needing a suite. For us, these were the calmest seas ever! Barely knew we were asea. Oh yeah, and we always enjoy the final Pub Night skit from the staff - well done by this crew and is always good to "Sea" Disney do Adult Entertainment that need not be excessively crude (we miss the Adventurers Club already, sigh...)

NOT SO GOOD: Didna realize that extra days did not equal extra shows and that filled in nights were average Vegas performers - yup, not bad, but I wasn't as impressed although I did see most of the acts (and duplicated tricks and jokes). Have seen better comedy on a 3-day DCL...

BTW, our sincere apologies for the bad weather on CC - likely to have been our fault since CC and us just don't think well of each other. On four DCL adventures: (1) our first time, we skipped it entirely after Hurricane Stan wiped out the place, (2) sailed up to the dock and the captain just couldn't get the ship parked (due to ocean currents), so we smiled and had a sea day instead, (3) landed and actually got some sand in our shoes!, and (4) were held captive by the CMs in stores and restrooms until the lightening abated so we could be evacuated back to the ship.

Happy sailing to everyone and sweet dreams of all those rebooked future cruises! We are on Wonder in September 2010 with our DGD too!
