Welcome! What great ages for the cruise. I regret not taking my DS when he was that age as I think (personal opinion) that would have been the most magical time for my son (though he is, and always will be, scared of characters... but if I pay him, he will take photos with them... he kills me). When he was that age I wasn't even aware of DCL since we are on the west coast. We did more than our fair share of Disneyland trips to make up for it. We are going for our first time this year and he is 10. He will have a blast no matter what. How can you not? It is Disney, no school, hot weather, pools and beaches! So exciting to see little princesses with big princesses though!
I have given a couple of my favorite links before but here is a crazy long one with more disorganized info than you could ever want to catch you up:
Thank you1 I will check them out!![]()
What is the FE exchange? It would be great to meet up on the cruise!![]()
I had been OBSESSED!!! I have been reading non stop about all the insider information I can!
I am from Sacramento, California. We will be driving down to port, I expect NOT to sleep the night before, just like I didnt on our last Disney trip. We went to Disneyland last year and we left at midnight, drove straight there, woke the boys and were the first to get in line for the park!
Went straight to the character breakfast. Our oldest was so surprised, what a way to wake up, with no clue he was going on his first trip to DL. I ran on adrenaline all day until 11pm!

FE Exchange where do I start. For those that I have signed up (only on Disboards) we hang a "Fish Extender" on a hook outside of our stateroom (the hook looks like a fish hence the name fish extender). We then make/purchase gifts for each of the other cabins participating. Whenever you get back to your room always check inside your fish extender to see what goodies have been left. It is up to you what you give. You can either give one gift per cabin or one gift per person broken down by age. That is entirely up to you. You can make your own fish extender or purchase them. There are a number of people who sell them both at Etsy.com and on Ebay. This is a very simplified answer and as I am also a first time cruiser I am learning as I go along. If you get the chance then there is vast quantities of knowledge to be found in the previous 47 pages of this thread (I know too much reading). There are currently 17 cabins participating in the fish extender. We are closing the list at the end of the day on Saturday as this is then 4 weeks until the cruise although some people will have as little as 2 weeks before they head off.
If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask. If I can't answer them, trust me, someone will.

Anyone know if children usually get sick on cruise ships? I get super sick, unless I wear the patch ... and I will be wearing one the WHOLE time!! I was wondering about my kids. I don't think that they have patches for kids, do they? Any advice?![]()
I just bought a fish extender on Monday night! I planned to hang it outside our cabin, but wasn't sure what for. So, count us in! Do I need to notify anyone specifically that we would like to participate? This will be a neat and fun activity for the girls.

Any gift ideas for the FE exchange? Seems a bit overwhelming thinking about what to get. Any examples would be appreciated!

Ok I am keeping the FE list. All I need is all your names and cabin numbers as you have already provided ages of your daughters. A full complete list will be provided Sunday or Monday. With regards to gifts as I said you can choose whether to do one per room or one per person based on ages. You can choose whether to make your gifts or purchase. You have $1 stores with large selection of ideas; then there are a couple of threads showing ideas such as "survival" kits; treats; photo frames; magnets and so on. I will try and track down a couple of links for you.

My kids have not gotten seasick but I did. It happened the night we ate at Palo and I wonder if maybe I just overdid it--the food was so good and so rich.
I picked up bonine for me yesterday as I've always gotten seasick whenever I've been on a boat since I was a child. My DD is only 4 so she can't even take the kids stuff so I'm going to go out and try some of those seabands.

I don't get motion sickness from roller coasters (even the crazy ones) but I do if I am in a car (not driving) on a curvy road. I don't get sea sick on cruise ships but do on small boats in the ocean (not lake). I get land sick after I get off the cruise ship if it has been a particularly rocky day at sea.
Why am I telling you this? To be prepared. You may think you don't get sea sick because you are fine in other situations but I would pack a couple pills just in case. They are super cheap (get generic) and take up minimal space in your suitcase. If you don't need them, I'm sure you can re-gift them to a friend on board.
As for FE gifts, I know there are threads out there that have ideas but here are a few:
- A recipe book of secret family recipes, regional cuisine (from your region), Disney recipes, etc.
- A survival kit: highlighter, clothespins, alcohol-based hand wipes etc. etc. (there are tons of ideas in other threads)
- Mini bottles of alcohol (like those from hotels/airplanes or small bottles of wine)
- Candy for the kids (and big kids) to bring to the movies/shows
- Glow sticks for pirate night
- First aid kits
hi! thank u for the welcome Yes sure ill join the FE thing. need to go buy an FE. dang they are pricey!! I dont know what to get for people tho lolWelcome. I'm afraid I can't give you any info on the nursery as I am a first timer. I know that we have at least one other little one that Mum has booked into the nursery and I've no doubt that there will be numerous replies to you in the next day or so with hints and tips.
Are you interested in joining the FE exchange. You are more than welcome to. So far there are 17 cabins participating. We are closing the list at the end of Saturday so you have a couple of days to make a decision. We are also looking at having a meet up on the first day around 3.05pm details will be confirmed as we progress closer to the cruise. I have a DD and she is 4 so I have no doubt she will love to meet yours.
