Folks,

Emily is now a MAJOR category 4 Hurricane and it headed straight at Cozumel and will pass closely by Grand Cayman. If this storm does as much damage as it could with 150 mph winds, do you think it would impact us even going to these ports? I would be interested in your thoughts.

BTW, we are south of Houston and live 20 miles from the Gulf. We have been pounded by rain all week and really don't need Emily to come visit us.

Larry

Hi Larry,

I can't tell what the impact would be but I've got my fingers crossed. Besides my purely selfish reasons I know those poor people down there rely VERY heavily on the cruise industry for their livelyhood.

Let's all blow really heavily to the south and hopefully she'll cross Mexico straight into the Pacific.

Gotta go find some new trip reports to read. I just read 3 reports of the 5/7 Western Magic and I WANT TO GO NOW!! We'll maybe in a week after Emily gets out of the way.

David

Good Morning,

Very quiet weekend.
I saw a news report that this is going to be one heck of a hurricane season........doing the No Hurricane dance

Have a great day,
See ya monday
kim

I'm baacccckkkk----still have the mystery shops to do today, but everything else is done :)

Smiling Mouse- I'm surprised you took a breather from your Harry Potter book to read this board. Maybe you are already finished! :teeth:

Wow! I just read about hurricane Emily too. This doesn't look good for Cozumel. I am also curious how this will effect us also. Good luck, Larry, it looks like you are near the projected path. Maybe you can hide out in the jail cells like ErinC.

You obsessive planners would be so proud of me. I just purchased a 13 pocket organizer for the cruise. You will be proud to know one of my files' titles is "DIS". That will be my cheat sheet area for David's DIS party game. Ha. :rotfl:

My son passed scuba tests this weekend. So they will be doing plenty of scuba diving on the cruise.

See ya. Deanna :wave2:

I just watched the Disney Wonder set sail on this web cam:

So COOL!!!

David

Well, we have arrived back from Guadalupe Mountains and Carlsbad Caverns National Parks :cool1: Very Cool - Anybody ever seen the Bat Flight? WOW!!! 375,000 Bats coming out of a single cave at once ~ Impressive. Caverns were great too. Hiked down into the caverns 800 ft below the surface!!! Took the elevator back up!!! Then Chrystina  Rented Kid & Me went looking for wildlife ~ Just the usual stuff - Jack Rabbits, coyotes, lizards & such. No snakes or tarantulas. SO now we are on "downtime" from the 100+ Wx ... Talk more later.

Hello everyone! I'm back from my fun-packed weekend! Saturday was Dora the Explorer and today was my Dad's 60th birthday party. I can't believe he is 60! He is in better shape and does more hard work than guys my age! He's my hero. :lovestruc

smilingmouse - What is mystery shopping? I love shopping off all shapes and kinds so I am interested in this!! :teeth: By the way, I LOVE peanut butter cookies, yummy!

I have been wondering about all the people in the hurricane's path. This year is so bad already, it looks like Disney will be very good at this by the time we are going in September. I just hope everyone stays safe wherever they are. I rarely use the dancing banana, but here is another no hurricane dance

David - I love reading those trip reports too. Let me know if you find a really good one. You're right, the more you read, the more you want to get out there too!

Deanna - Congratulations to your son! :cheer2: I bet he is excited, it seems like he really worked hard. He's going to enjoy the cruise even more now. And good for you for purchasing your 13 pocket organizer! I'm so proud. I will have to save a spot in mine for DIS stuff.

Dennis - Sounds like you all had a fun weekend. My family went to Carlsbad when I was very young, but I still remember it. It's a beautiful place.

Kim - My husband left a small bottle of dye that he uses in his pool business in his shorts. I washed and dried them in there and ruined EVERY piece of clothes in the load. I could not believe it. Oh well, I guess I have to go shopping for more clothes. ;)

To all who asked: Yes, I finished HP before I checked the boards...I do have my priorities, ya know LOL...

Julie, mystery shopping differs based on assignment. Basically, you go in to a store/restaurant and audit/critic/comment on the service/experience you have. There is a great thread about mystery shopping on the Budget board....you might want to check that out too...

Well, everything is done for me this weekend. I'll be in bed soon.....

Night all!!!

To all who may be affected by Emily: Good luck and take care!!!

smilingmouse: My sister has been mystery shopping for a couple years and she loves it. She said that when she first started it, it was hard. There were so many things to remember! Names, times, etc. But now she really is in the swing of things. She has quite a few "trick of the trade now", like a microrecorder so she can talk to her lapel. If she is at a restaurant, and has to remember a lot of things, she will bring a crossword puzzle and write down what she needs to know in the "boxes". She is turning into an authentic "spy"!
She does'nt make a lot of money doing it, but it's also good for an occassional free meal or free tank of gas.

Hurricanes..I'm going to be totally selfish here, and wish that they all blow through before September! :umbrella: (who's with me here??)

Oh, I like this mystery shopping idea! I have heard of this, but I didn't know much about it. Sounds like it could be fun. :flower:

Giles - My daughter was looking at her Capt. Mickey book and she decided she wanted to send a little note to her Disney cruise friends. Keep an eye out for it! :goodvibes

I don't do the microphone thing, but I have used the crossword idea. The money isn't spectacular, but the free food/other stuff sure is nice...
BTW, I'm with ya re: hurricanes

Julie,
I mentioned to DD before bed tonight that one day she will be getting some mail from her cruise friends! She can't wait!

What an exhausting weekend it was. I'm going to be so glad to be back at work tomorrow. My co-workers think I'm nuts. While they are sitting there with their third cup of coffee trying to recover from the Monday blahs, I skip into the office singing "Happy Monday everyone! I'm so glad to be back at work!" I usually get something thrown at me.

 Good Morning

Pretty quiet in this neck of the woods. Temps are down a bit but the wind has caused some sandstorms. :guilty: Some good news from Hurricane Emily is that it may drop some rain on El Paso later this week as it breaks up.

Mystery Shopping? Like Chrystina  would need another reason for shopping. :teeth:

Julie ~ Happy Birthday to your Dad! My next milestone! :sad2:

David - Thanks for the webcam picture! Great site...

DIDI - You practicing?

Well, need to do some work ~ Can you imagine that? :rolleyes1 Leaving for Bangor, ME in a couple of days. Need to get some things in order before I get there. I work much too hard. :rotfl2:

Be Good everyone ... LOOK we went under 100k minutes!!!

Well, It doesn't look like Emily was too bad. At least from the news stories I can read on the web. Maybe it's too soon to tell.

Dennis: Can you tell me how you get the countdown info? I used to have a little application for my Palm Pilot that would do that but I can't find it.

Gotta get back to lunch.

Take care all,

David

I hope that Emily wasn't as bad as expected. I know that everyone is better prepared in those areas because of last year's hurricanes, but it's still so scary to be right in the line of fire I'm sure.

Over the weekend I got eyepatches and big gold pirate earrings for all the DIS friends for the pirate party. That will be my contribution to the group! :teeth: pirate: I can't get my hands on moose nuggets so this will have to be good enough. Don't anyone feel like you have to wear them if you don't want, it can just be a little souvenir.

Julie,
How kind of you. I don't know about wearing the eye patch. I am not even coordinated with two eyes open. If I have to wear an eye patch I may trip over a table and land in someone's souffle.

Is anyone getting to a point where it's almost irritating to wait any longer? I know I still have two months plus to go, but I'm like a kid with a big shiny present in front of me and I'm not allowed to open it...yet.

Even planning my eldest's wedding isn't keeping me distracted enough. Maybe I need to take up yoga..or mystery shopping..or something to keep my mind off warm beaches, and clear blue water, delicious food, and 7 days of R & R...and....ok, this isn't working.

Hi everyone. Glad to see the chatter going again.

Dennis- Can I borrow some of your frequent flyer miles? :rotfl: I absolutely can't believe how much you do and travel. Is most of this travel with your job? You must be a commercial pilot. :Pinkbounc

Julie- New pictures of your kids are awesome. They have grown a lot since your last posted pictures. They are beautiful. Is your son sitting in a dog bowl? I think the eye patches and earrings sound awesome. I am wanting to dress up myself, so that will be neat. How in the world did you find pirate earrings? Anyone who can find pirate earrings should definately consider a career in mystery shopping. :flower:

Trying to arrange private excursion in Key West for the boys to scuba dive there. Anyone had any experience with that? Has anyone done glassbottom boat tour there. All reviews are horrible. But we are still considering it.

Giles family- is the daughter that is getting married in your pic under your signature? Or do you have one even older?

smilingmouse: Congrats :cheer2: on finishing Harry Potter. You must have read all weekend. That book is thick!

All for now. See ya. deanna
