Sept. 23, 2012 Pacific Coast - Wonder Cruise

Would you believe I've pinched a set of nerves in my back lifting a memorial bench during the kindy clean-up? I spent the rest of the day flat on my back with shooting electrical pains and the doctor thinks it's doubtful I'll be going to Thailand on Saturday. I'm doing everything I know to try and fix the back - today taking the kids to kindy wasn't a barrel of laughs with me bent double. Then the doctor tells me not to drive or carry a handbag... what sort of mum of small people doesn't carry a handbag (mine is full of emergency stuff for kids like mini salami sticks). Argh.:sad::sad:

OH NO....I'm so sorry to hear about your back!!! I'll be sending lots of Get Well and Healing vibes your way. I hope you are able to heal enough to go on your trip!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! You need to get better - and fast, fast, fast. Sending lots of pixie dust your way for a speedy 'unpinching'.

Nippy this morning - -3 degrees but we are headed to the 20's this afternoon.

Well I've just been to the doctor again after a week on my back and Rich looking after the boys. It's disc damage and I have to go to see a specialist physio to get help. Now I've got codeine, diclofenac and diazepam to take to try and get the muscles to release. I've also got a doctors letter so I don't get banged up in the Bangkok Hilton on Satruday when I fly to Phuket. I guess my back and I are going to fly about 18 hours in total together. :sad2: Thankfully I got a deal on Jet Stars 'Business Class' (Premium Econ in anyone's language) and I'm on the front row with more leg space and nobody reclining into my lap.

Be safe - and have a great time. I will keep trying to get a picture of some folks ice fishing for the twins - not been very successful at all but hopefully I can zip over on Saturday and snap someone.

Odd weather here - went up to 50 yesterday, down in the teens tonight and then it will balance out to 40's and 50's for the next week. Not much else to report though.

Enjoy!

I'm so glad that you don't have to miss your trip!!! I hope that the medications work quickly so you can enjoy your time there!! I can't wait to hear about it when you get back. Have a wonderful trip!!!

Happy Saturday! Hope this finds everyone well. Our weather has been very unMichigan like as it has been in the 60's and 70's all week. That snow we got two weeks ago is gone in my places and we are to have at least another week of it. I can't believe it won't snow again before spring officially arrives but it will be what it will be. I most certainly will enjoy it until it gets here.

Given that - no one has been ice fishing as the lake is no longer safe - but even if it is next winter, I will get pictures of ice fishing.

27 weeks from today (or to-now as on oldest DS used to say) we will be on an airplane on our way to CA.:banana::banana:

Have a good weekend!

We will be joining you for this cruise. Originally booked the 6-night repositioning cruise the week before, but then the VGT came so we jumped on it and rebooked to this cruise. Just bought airfare at a great price.
We will also be spending 4 days at the DLR after the cruise, though we will be at one of the good neighbor hotels on Harbor Blvd (wow, what a let down after the ship stateroom) lol. There will be 2 of us and if anyone has transportation to that area booked and has the room we would be glad to pay our share for a ride.

Welcome to the group!!! DH and I are also booked on this cruise with the VGT rates (we originally had an 11B but rebooked when the VGT came out). We are looking forward to this trip because it will be just DH and I (for the first time since having kids, LOL).

Sorry I can't help with the transportation. We live very close to the port (close enough that we go down there on Sundays a lot to watch the Wonder leave) so we have family picking us up.

We will also be on the Wonder in just over 2 weeks for the MR cruise with the kids. We have to take advantage of the Wonder being here (while she is still here) since we don't have to worry about airfare, LOL. If there is anything you would like us to check out while we are on board, just let me know :)

Airfare is another reason we rebooked on this cruise. The other cruise was from Vancover to LA and airfare was double or triple the LA r/t fare. Plus it was a 6 night cruise and we had booked a Navigator Veranda and this cruise gives us 1 more night for the same money, plus the chance to have a better cabin, not to mention the great savings in airfare.

Also the fish extender thing sounds fun, but I only vaguely understand how it works. Can someone give a detailed description of how it works for those of us who don't quite get it?

The exchange is basically a gift exchange. Everyone that signs up for it agrees to deliver gifts to everyone else in the group (leaving them in the Fish Extenders). They can be anything, such as trinkets/toys (pirate items, etc), magnets, calendars, candy, picture frames. Many people bring small items from their home state or country. Depending on the size of the group, you can either deliver one gift to the entire stateroom or one per person.

On our Dream cruise last year, we had about 20 staterooms so I delivered one gift to each person. On my upcoming MR cruise, we only have 4 cabins participating so I have multiple gifts to leave for each person (I want the kids to have something in the FE every day, LOL).

It is a lot of fun to come back to your room and find something new in your fish extender :thumbsup2

I'm back from Thailand! Went from high humidity 36C to Southerly gales dropping the temperature down to 11C. :sad2: Fortunately the temps have gone back up again but it's raining here. I did lots, so it wasn't exactly a restful break but I did sit on the beach for four hours on the last day. :rotfl2: If Gail can explain how to post pics I'll stick some up on the page. Can't saw I was wowed with the shopping, focussed mainly on getting the kids way too much - the stuff I want to buy is in the US malls this September (hill running shoes are not a big seller in Phuket).

Came home to a semi-clean house (spent two hours hoovering to get to a state I was happy with), two kids that missed me, a husband with a sinus infection and a dog that nearly collapsed in relief as she'd been walked once in 10 days.

Now we are offically in Autumn. Roll on September when we get a break in the California Sun.

Welcome VikingInMouseEars - love the name, I'm half Danish! We took an upgrade to VGT too, we were orginally in a SPR. I figure we'll have to get above Navigators as we are travelling with a couple of four year olds, so we are onto a winner.

Oh Jetskigirl - not long to the Easter Mexican cruise. Bet the kids are super excited!

Welcome Home!!!! LOL - I have no doubt that they were all missing you :) I'm glad you got a little time to relax on the beach. How is your back doing? I hope it didn't cause you any problems on the trip.

Yep, we are counting down the days now for sure. School is crazy with tests and projects (DD is winding up the 3rd quarter so lots of tests too). I am so ready to step back on the Wonder and forget about it all for the week.

P.S. to post pictures, you first have to load them to a photo hosting site (like Photobucket) and then Copy and Paste the URL into the message using the icon above where you type the message (that looks like an envelope with a mountain inside) :rotfl2:

:welcome:Eric! Good choice on moving your ressie from the repo - that would be fun but excellent airfare and one more day makes for a pretty easy decision.

Glad you got home OK BigDisneyOE and enjoyed your time. The instructions are all I do - and I use Photobucket as well. Tell the boys I will get them a picture of ice fishing but it may be next winter (um that is my winter) - just never saw anyone out there and now the lake is open. We have been up to 80 several days and our snow is gone. The trees are budding and I am sure we will have more snow and some frosts as well so the plants are going to have a really hard time of it.

Well, I have exciting news. Youngest DS was accepted into grad school! So, wedding, honeymoon and then grad school. Quite the schedule for him. I still can't wipe the smile from my face! But, given all that - that is all I have to report so enjoy your weekend!

26 WEEKS UNTIL OUR TURN

Seems like a long time but it will go quickly. I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the weekend!

Good Morning!
Been AWOL for a bit, crazy days. Spring break for me now, whew!

I share a contract in a 4th grade classroom and was counting on my partner teacher to cover in September. Well, she just told me she's pregnant!!! and due on Oct 8th! That's a bit too close for comfort. AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

BTW, put us down for the FE if you haven't already.

Have a blessed day!

That is way cool for her but I presume you can get a sub if needed?

Has anyone offered to keep track of the FE list?

Well, that four lettered word is back in our weather forecast for tomorrow - my daffodils have finished blooming and you can see green when looking back in the woods these days. My plan is to head to Ohio tomorrow to see my Mom so I am hoping that there is no truth to the forecast (or it has all melted by the time I can get out of here).

Enjoy!

Hello, everyone!

Although I have been a Disney-phile for years, this is my very first post on the DISboards. My boyfriend, Shane, and I decided to book this sailing to celebrate my 30th birthday on September 27th and we can't be more excited!

We just booked our airfare and were elated to find that DTW to LAX was only costing us $325 per person, roundtrip, which means spa treatments and brunches at Palo are in our future.

I'm looking forward to discussing excursions with you guys since I noticed that DCL doesn't have their San Diego excursions up just yet. I have a friend that lives in San Francisco who wants to show me the town since I've never been before. I'm more than a little nervous about Ensenada and Shane is at the point where he doesn't want to get off the ship in Mexico -- I would love to discuss this with more experienced cruisers because I really want to take the cooking class excursion!

We are also going to visit Disneyland for four days after the cruise. We had a special set of circumstances that allowed us to spend one day at the DLR last year and we tried to cram everything we could into that one day, but just can't resist coming back. We're looking forward to taking our time (and I'm especially looking forward to taking the "A Walk in Walt's Footsteps" tour).

Thanks in advance for helping me learn the ropes on the DISboards!

Diana

Welcome aboard.

We too will be celebrating DWs birthday, but a few days late. For health reasons (mine) I won't tell what birthday it is.

Bill

Welcome Diana and Shane! Where in Michigan are you? We live up in Cadillac - the land of freaky snow storms. So glad you are joining us.

I must say - Friday was NASTY. I was going to and see my Mom in Ohio but when they said snow, reduced visibility and then freezing rain - I put it off for two weeks. Six hours in good weather is a tough drive alone and I didn't think I wanted to go there so we said put. I made DH go furniture shopping instead :rotfl2: yesterday. Wore him out - wore myself out actually and I don't have anything yet either. Yet would be the key word in that statement, I may.

Not much else to report so have a great rest of your weekend!

PS - Bill - great to see you again again!
