Sept 23, 2007 Wonder

I think I just found myself a Grass Skirt I can get in to. ;) (Recipe follows).

Seriously, where does one actually find a real grass skirt? Do you think they'd have them at Ron Jon's? We plan on stopping in before heading to the boat.

INGREDIENTS:
  • ice
  • 1 1/2 measure gin
  • 1 measure of triple sec or cointreau
  • 1 measure pineapple juice
  • 1/2 teasponn grenadine
  • 1 pineapple slice

Seriously, where does one actually find a real grass skirt?

You know those little party shops that sell streamers, balloons, those stupid little birthday party hats that look like a miniature dunce cap? That's where I found mine.

Hellooooo...hellooooooooo..helloooooo

Is there anybody out there?

I guess we're all just an anti-social bunch. I keep counting the days and am just waiting for August to be over so kids can get back to school for a while before the trip to WDW/DCL.

Surely, the chatter should start to pick up now that we're cruising in less than 2 months.

Do we have any idea how many DIS'ers plan on attending the meet-and-greet Sunday? Are we still supposed to wear something lime green? If so, can I just carry a piece of key lime pie with me?

I can't wait til the end of August either, but my DD starts school Monday. We are in south Mississippi so they start very early and get out in May. Next month we cruise!! Yay!
 :cool1: :cool1: :confused3 :yay:

Add me to the list! (Thanks for the link, Mozart.)

My group includes me, DH, DS-7 and DD-5. This is our 3rd cruise (we did a land and sea for our honeymoon in '99 and a double-dip last October).

We weren't planning to cruise again so soon, but we got sucked in by the onboard booking discount. Then Disney came out with the 40% room discount, so we said, "Hey, since we're going to be in Orlando anyway, we might as well go to WDW, right?"

And that's how Disney conned us into an 11-day vacation.

:teeth:

If anyone has kids around my kids' ages, maybe they can e-mail each other before the cruise. PM me.

I'm looking forward to meeting some fellow DISers!

Welcome aboard, Ivy and family! We've got a few things going on, including a grass skirt party, hello meeting in the Promenade Lounge just before the muster drill, and we're closely monitoring the progress of a surprise wedding.

Looks like there's a few people sailing with children between 5-9. Look at the linked post, and it gives a rundown.

Welcome Ivy,

There should be plenty for the kids to do...And lots of others to meet and share good times with. We are all a fun bunch of Disneyfiles that are crazy about cruising. Lots to see and do...But it's all about having fun!!!:cool1:

There are Dis meets, Oceaneers Club and Lab, Vista Spa and of course PALO!!!:thumbsup2

So again, welcome :grouphug: enjoy and ask about anything thats on your mind.

We just watched the DCL DVD the other night followed by POTC. Talk about being in a cruising mood after that. I thought the line Captain Jack says when stranded on the small island w/ Elizabeth Swann of a ship needing a keel and hull, but being freedom was so appropriate. Anyway...

Since all of our arrangements are made, there's not even any additional planning I can do, lol. I just have to wait out the days until we get to WDW and DCL.

I will try to PM some of the families today with children close to our son's age and see if they can make some connections prior to sailing. Having done that on our first cruise, I know it makes the trip that much more fun for the kids.

Cheers everybody! See you in Sept.

Just checking in today because I'm on vacation starting tomorrow. I see that a few people have Palo on Monday night, us too! We have a Rasul booked Sunday night, Palo Monday night @6:30 and Palo brunch on Wednesday. My in-laws are on board with us, but decided not to try Palo's! What? They're just going to enjoy doing nothing.

Also happened to notice that the weather service has downgraded the initial report for hurricane's this season. Let's hope they are right. So far its been fairly quiet.

We fly to Orlando 6 weeks from tomorrow!

My TA sent me an e-mail yesterday. The Fla. Resident Rates came out for the Sept. 23 cruise. We were able to upgrade to a Cat 5 room (had Cat 6) and saved $175.00. She said that the availability was limited.

Nice deal! An upgrade + cash savings. That's a nice bit of pixie dust.:wizard:

I keep looking at the Cat 4 room availability - there seem to be quite a few still open. I'm not sure if I should call to see what it would cost to upgrade now or just wait and get to the terminal early and see what might be available. Our location on deck 7 seems pretty ideal but it would be nice to have a bit more space to spread out.

After reading the e-mail from my TA, I looked at the Disney Website to see what the cost to upgrade to Cat 4. I put the FLR code in the discount spot and it said that Cat 4 was not available with that discount code. Things maybe changed or maybe it is saved for TA's. Good Luck, I hope it works out for you. I would love to upgrade to a Cat 4.

I decided I'll wait to see if I can upgrade at the terminal. I'm very happy with the location of our cabin, so I'm not feeling the need to force the issue.

On a different note, I decided to make some grass skirts with dinner tonight. They're not a bad drink, but I'd definitely put them a notch below Bahama Mama's and nowhere near the caliber of a mojito. So, I guess I'll be wearing but not drinking a grass skirt at the sail away party.

I didn't know that you could upgrade at the terminal. Do you get any special rate? We were happy with our location also (room 6042). We checked what was available on the Disney Site before giving our TA approval to change. We are like you, if the location wasn't right, we would not have upgraded. As it turns out, we were able to get a little better location I think it is room 7536. (My wife spoke with the TA).
I don't think that there is enough grass or rum on the Wonder to cover my large butt with a grass skirt. I will be with you guys in spirit though. If you need assistance dealing with the liquid kind of grass skirt, I will be right there with you.
If anyone is looking, Oriental Traders has loads of that sort of thing. I had a surprise 40th birthday party for my wife prior to our first Wonder cruise last year. It was a Tropical theme and I got decorations, grass skirts, etc. from them.

I was just on another thread and I noticed something.

1 month, 1 week, 1 day to go.

At least college football starts (for me) in 19 days.

Oh, and for all you Florida residents...

IT'S GREAT...TO HATE...FLORIDA STATE!

In anticipation of the cruise, I did some early, early Xmas shopping and picked up three DCL related items off eBay over the weekend. :cool1:

1. A full/queen comforter used on the ships
2. A set of 6 drink cozies with the DCL logo
3. A DCL Castaway Cay Beach Patrol pin for DS. (He'll probably get that for the cruise.)

Just one more month until we head to WDW.
