Sept 2007 My Affair w/Mickey -- Complete!

Aww...I love them!!!!!

I would do my whole tree in them..So cute:goodvibes

Well, they were so super easy to do. One could definitely do a whole tree and get the really big 8" or 12" styrofoam ball for a tree topper!

I put the ones that I'm not giving away on the tree -- wonder how long DD will keep them there? :rotfl2:

to make the Mickey Balls:

Choose a styrofoam ball for the head and 2 smaller ones for the ears. I think mine were 3" heads and 1" ears but you can make yours larger or smaller.

Put a toothpick in the ears and attach to the head. I also bought styrofoam glue and then added a dab of glue to the ears to help attach them to the head better -- only b/c I was afraid DD would pull them off.

Put an ornament hook into the top of the head. I curved the end that goes into the styrofoam so it formed a hook going in. I just thought it would stay in better. Once again, I put glue on the tip of the hook before inserting into Mickey's head.

Spray paint the balls and hooks, multiple times. I did about 4-6 times. I laid mine on newspaper and did one side, then when dry, turned over and did the other side.

**** Make sure you purchase spray paint that specifically says for STYROFOAM **** I got one from the brand Krylon that said it was low odor and listed styrofoam. Just saying "craft foam" is not good enough -- it must list styrofoam. I learned this from personal experience, as the spray paint from my first attempt ate away at the styrofoam (think Mickey with acne!!)

For Minnie, I just purchased some ribbon and tied a bow around the hook. I did not glue the bow to the hook.

Voila!

Merry Christmas everyone!!

Hope you have a great Holiday.

You might have already left,if so, hope you had a great Holiday.

Hi marshay, I love the mickey styrofoam balls. They are great, they would look great on my little white Charlie Brown tree.

Merry Christmas Marshay! Hope you had a wonderful time in PA with your family!!!

Love your crafts... also how did you get your shirts to come out so well. Maybe I put too much die on mine, but it just came out regular. Thanks!!!

Hi Marshay!!! Just wanted to give you a bump.

I wanted to see if you got your new photopass pics:goodvibes

Did you do the dry dye method or did you start with liquid dye? We used the dry dye and really sprinkled it on and poked the dye in with our fingertips as much as we could. I know others said to tie the bundle tightly but I think a loose bundle works better (esp since I wasn't using the typical rainbow pattern but using a crystal one instead).

How many colors did you use? We used 3 for the shirt and 1 for the Mickey head. I also had to re-do 2 of the shirts since even with lots of dye and poking, there was more white on them in certain spots than I would've liked.

Cool -- more LGMHs at the World!! Thanks for all the kind words...I have never done so much creative things before but the DIS really inspired me, too!

Would someone explain to me what "LGHM" means? Are they little things in lime green that you carry while at WDW so you can recognize other Dis-boarders? (I've been trying to figure this out!)

Thanks!

Thanks!

You got it!

We got ours from Home Depot (paint chip sample) or you can make your own. Some people decorate them and others do not. I put some on my stroller, on my diaper bag and on the door to our resort room.

Lime Green Mickey Head = LGMH

If you go to HD, the actual color is called "Alien Green".

Here are some pics --
