Sept 20,2011 Wonder Repositioning Cruise

Thanks for all the warm wishes and congratulations...

Congrats Rosie! You can now make this your CELEBRATION cruise!!! :cheer2:

Anyone been to Capilano? I just can't stop thinking about that suspension bridge. It looks so cool! Does it take very long to walk through the treetop adventure and everything? Like, could we do it in the morning before the cruise? Thanks!

What about the shopping tour in Ensenada? I kind of feel like we should at least go to Mexico...

OK, one more thing... how big do the pockets need to be on my FE? I was just going to stitch some felt mickeys to a strip of denim. Do I need to have pleats in them so they can hold more? Thanks! Hope you are all enjoying your weekend!

You too?!? DH and I both have colds right now too (stuffy nose, sore eyes, cough etc), and the kids just have the snuffles. We are all on the mend though and its getting better, so I'm forecasting health for everyone by the time we board :)
I hope you feel better before then as well! :thumbsup2
i too have a crummy cold - but glad to have it now & OVER before sailing :) Not sure if next weekend's Giants game which got moved to an evening start will be all that good for me - oh well....not missing that!!!

:yay::yay: We got an email from our TA yesterday saying Disney gave us an upgrade so we're now in room 8036 :woohoo: Talk about pixie dust! I read some room reports that say it can be a bit noisy but I figure it can't be any noisier than our house on an average day :lmao: .

So part of me is a bit cheesed off...I've spent all summer memorizing one cabine number, studying deck plans, etc. etc....Now In have to 'realign' my brain :rotfl:
WOW - so glad some of you have gotten upgrades...this is my 5th sailing & never an upgrade :( but nice to know that they DO happen & i'm sure our time will come

While I hope this trip is smooth sailing all the way some of my best vacations were full of mishaps....funny in hind sight with great tales to tell....

I have a similar dream about being back in high school...I HATE THAT DREAM! :lmao:

Great news!!! What a nice suprise!!

I've had some good news too: Yesterday I got a phone call from a woman who owns a business that was right next door to my old job. She said she's known my boss/owner for over 20 years and was so sorry to hear of the business's demise. Then she went on to say that my boss and the company's owner had told her what an excellent worker I was and she had an opening she thought I'd be perfect for!!!!! We meet next week and she said I could start after the cruise!!....I'm on cloud 9!
OMG Rosie - that IS FABULOUS news!!!! Congratulations!!!!

I cannot believe it is almost a year since I started this thread and all of the things that have happened.

I retired.

My son moved out of the house.

My wife retired.

re-did the dining room.

Congress took a large chunk out of my retirement savings with their fight over the debt limit. (Glad this trip is already paid for)

Daughter started senior year of college.

Hurricane Irene and some basement flooding. Cleaned out the basement :(

In a couple of weeks we drop the dogs off at doggie camp and we are off to Vancouver and the Great Disney Adventure!

Hope everyone else is hanging in there. I will spend some time catching up on the 100 or so messages in the thread since I last had enough brains to actually read this.

Really, really, really ready to start this vacation.
You have had quite a year!!!! Thanks for updating page 1

Oh waaaahhh...;)

On a "cruise" I went on in 2007, I had the upper bunk in this room:

Know what was right over my head? The number 2 catapult on the USS Ronald Reagan... And flight ops didn't end until 2 AM. :headache: After that, they had to re-spot the deck so they were dragging chains and chocks across the deck until dawn. It sounded like Jacob Marley's ghost...
oh John - that is one "cruise" i have no desire to take but THANK YOU THANK YOU for doing it and defending our wonderful country!!!!!

Think we're headed up to see the the boy today & take him two important things he forgot when we moved him last weekend....1) his skateboard....his dorm appt is really far from his classes & 2) his blender - he cannot drink his "Muscle Milk" without his blender
these next two wks will be busy - need to clean house (& hope that hubby keeps it clean while i'm gone) and pack!!!!
14 days friends till we board the ttrain and get this party started!!!!

OK, one more thing... how big do the pockets need to be on my FE? I was just going to stitch some felt mickeys to a strip of denim. Do I need to have pleats in them so they can hold more? Thanks! Hope you are all enjoying your weekend!

Received our FE that I ordered on Etsy - so cute - pockets are smaller than expected . DD and I will need to put our gift into a bag and hang on the door handle so to not flip out onto the floor. She bought the coolest ribbon to tie it up - fun fun fun - we are getting so close.:banana:

:hippie:

ours are about 6-7 inches wide by 5-6 deep (guessing - didn't measure them)

Yeah... I almost wish we hadn't gotten one (notice I said "almost" :rotfl:). I'm now "spoiled" because we DID get one on our first cruise :cool1: and so now, I'm afraid I'll be EXPECTING one each time!!! :lmao:

Nate and I were going to do that, but decided to do Grouse Mountain instead. If you do it, you'll have to let us know how it was! Being that we'll live just a few hours from Vancouver, I'm sure we'll do that in the future. Sorry, I'm no help as to how long it will take, but let us know what you think about it if you do it! :)

I've never cruised, so I don't know if this is good or not, but my pockets are 5.5" long and the FE is 9" wide, but I completely forgot to take the dowel heads into consideration when measuring the FE, so with the dowel heads, it's about 11 inches wide. Oh, I so hope it doesn't stick out into the hallway!!!

Congrats on the new job Rosie. That will make your trip less stressful.

Wow, you have had a year Rchello.

John is in charge of making the FE. I have to finish our gift. Almost done with making the parts, then I have to assemble them.

Off to spend the day with my Mom who is visiting.

I didn't do that cruise as part of my own service, but as a writer-photographer for an aviation newspaper. It was a media trip arranged through the Public Affairs Office of Naval Air Forces.

I actually retired from the Navy 13 years before construction started on the Reagan. I served during the Vietnam era...

This is how I got out to the ship and back...

We just got ours yesterday too, though we bought it on eBay and it's lovely. Very excited - gifts will definitely fit in it so I'm thinking its standard size-ish: about 5" deep and 7 or so inches across? The FE gifts we're giving are mostly 3x2x1" or so, so they should fit in even small pockets!
Anyone traveling with children going to have a meet up to exchange kids.....:rotfl: I mean introduce kids to one another?
Mine are Calvin (5) and Cordelia (2).
My son is coming up on five and we would LOVE to trade! :rotfl: Although DH will probably be jealous of your toddler, he wanted another baby but our DS was just too high energy for me to consider another pregnancy for a loooooong time ... currently I'm thinking mabye 2016 for the second child.
I was wondering this as well. I think I'm just going to call for the shuttle as we disembark...just in case the ship is late getting into port.
I'm heading to SNA...anyone else?
That's a good idea. I'm trying to ballpark a time to have my in-laws pick us up at the port, but they will be staying with cousins who live about 25 min east of Disneyland, probably about 35-40 minutes drive from port so thinking about just calling them right before we disembark and taking pictures from outside the ship as we cry to leave it. DH's and my flights aren't til about 5p, so we'll have plenty of time to have lunch with the in-laws and get the DS settled in before heading to our destinations.

Wow you certainly did have some time on your hands! Unfortunately it points out that I'm lagging on posts here and need to catch up! Man I miss being unemployed ... really wish I felt comfortable DISsing at work ... even though everybody there is super nice I'm not quite ready to have the DIS be on my cookie history yet. Maybe when its trip report time!
TA has talked with DCL - the tweet & the examiner print has been retracted....the alcohol policy is still in place as it was & has always been,
:cheer2::banana::cheer2::banana:
Thank you for discovering this. Read that post and was a bit worried ... I don't think we'll have more than a few bottles of liquor ... atm thinking one small bottle of tequila or amaretto, another of vodka, and perhaps a bottle of rose wine for Palo, but I _did_ have my heart set on bringing our own alcohol (I know roses aren't great by wine lover standards but they're sweet and for me they go with everything).
I'm not a lush, however, I will consume more alcohol during this trip that I have consumed this entire year to date. I'm relaxing... I'm not driving... I don't have a corporate "image" to uphold... I love trying different drinks o' day. The result....I am barely seen on deck without a drink in my hand.... and one after the spa... and one after the show in Cove Cafe... and one while I'm reading on deck.. on my way to dinner... on my way to lunch... during dinner... I think you get the idea......:drinking1:drinking1:drinking1:drinking1:drinking1
Nobody will think you're a lush for drinking on vacation! One of my favorite things about vacation is that one can let their hair down, and I'm particularly looking forward to being able to drink in the middle of the day with my DH, knowing that the DS is safely ensconced at the Oceaneer's Club and we don't have to go back to work! :yay: Now if I could only find non-calorically laden alcohol that tasted good ... little worried about coming back from this cruise with an extra 10-20 pounds between having dessert available all the time plus drinking!
Bear in mind too buying liquor in Canada is different than in the US. Here it is very regulated and isn't sold in every grocery and corner store. It is licensed and only sold from "Beer and Wine Stores" or the Government run "BC Liquor Stores". The BC Liquor Stores will be the cheaper place to go, since the Beer and Wine stores have to buy from the Government BC Liquor Stores. (Can you say Monopoly?) On top of that, or more accurately because of that and all the taxes they pile on it, alcohol is more expensive in Canada than in the US.
Guess what I'm saying is, if you want cheaper and are allowed to bring it across the border, do that. Duty Free at the border might be an option too. Otherwise, the BC Liquor Store will be cheaper than a Beer and Wine Store as well. Just be prepared for some pricing "sticker shock" between Canada and the US.
Thank you for filling us in on this. I was debating whether to buy our liquor in Seattle or Vancouver since we have a day in each, and now I know which one to go to! I'd been leaning towards Vancouver since slightly less hauling + I have memories of liquor runs to Canada back when I was 19 in college in Michigan we'd run over the border to legally stock up and it was _way_ cheaper over the border, but I guess that was mostly that the American dollar was so much stronger in the late 90's.

Yep, its cold season. As soon as DS4 went to kindergarten he came home with a cough and sniffles (which we don't seem to have gotten yet). Kids and germs just go together and I'm glad he didn't get it at a later time, closer to the cruise. Unfortunately what he did get from my dad was a home-made haircut. :scared1: For some reason, even though I had a haircut scheduled for him for next week my dad was watching the DS the other day and decided that since my son's hair was in his eyes he should just lop off the front with whatever scissors he had on hand! It looked absolutely awful, so we took him to his barber right away and she did the best she could to fix it, but it still looks a little off to me. I love my dad but sometimes he does weird stuff and thinks nothing of it. Hopefully it'll grow out enough in the next weeks so that we can get another trim right before we fly out and he'll look pretty in the vacation pictures ...
:yay::yay: We got an email from our TA yesterday saying Disney gave us an upgrade so we're now in room 8036 :woohoo: Talk about pixie dust! I read some room reports that say it can be a bit noisy but I figure it can't be any noisier than our house on an average day .

Wow that's awesome! Congrats! Now I'm going to be obsessively checking the website just in case they sprinkle more pixie dust around! I haven't even looked at a diagram of the ship to see where our room is in regard to everything else yet ... haven't quite gotten to that Extreme Planning mode; its been enough of a job to figure out where the three of us are going when for the non-cruise portions of this trip so for the cruise I'll be playing everything other than Victoria by ear.

Uh-oh...It's starting!

A few nights ago I dreamt I was on board but my daughter was not, she was getting on at the next port. I got off to meet her only to realize I hadn't taken any ID with me and had no way to get back on the ship! :sad2:

Glad to know I'm not the only one! Dreamed we were cruising with my mom and had left the kids behind  Then I wake up so disoriented as I try to figure out what's real and what was the dream :confused3.

I've had some good news too: Yesterday I got a phone call from a woman who owns a business that was right next door to my old job. She said she's known my boss/owner for over 20 years and was so sorry to hear of the business's demise. Oh that is awesome news! What a wonderful relief, and just in time to celebrate on board!

Yay for pixie dust :)
If you don't want to worry about remembering a new number, I'd be happy to take the room for you, lol.

Aww...that is so sweet of you but we'll struggle through as best we can :rotfl2:

Hmmm...still have to finish my FE...had a nasty fabric glue accident a few days ago and haven't been brave enough to get back at it. I think I just have one last pocket to put on and then try and cover up all the nasty bits with ribbon. Sigh..crafty I'm not :sad2:

We got two of our Disneyland PH through Airmiles so still have two to buy. Picked up a new camera for travelling today and the last of dh's pirate costume.

Still to do:
  • Find the FE gifts that I hid somewhere safe but now can't remember where that is!
  • Pack
  • Oh yeah, and tell the kids

ahhhh - well pretty cool you got to do that piece for the newspaper & the Vietnam era.....there's much to be thankful for ~ to all those who served there

Well, I'm all packed up and ready for the cruise! :cool1: Is it September 20th yet?! :confused3

So DH and I still have our colds :(
DD is getting a bit of a cough and DS just has some sniffles....
I was hoping that it would go away a little quicker!

Still have our FE's to sew up, but should be fairly quick to do.
FE gifts are half done, just a bit of sewing and then organizing it all :)

Girl - i think you have a wedding to attend "first"!!!!:lmao:

Yeah... I've had it with the wedding! TOO MUCH WORK! LOL! I'm more excited about the CRUISE now, especially since I'm all packed up and ready to go!!! :lmao:

I'm currently packing up my entire house so I can move, and since I had to pack up all my clothes and stuff anyways, I figured I may as well pack my bags for the cruise! :lovestruc So, I'm packed and ready! Is it September 20th yet?! :thumbsup2
