Oh when I went to Wisconsin last summer, we went to the Jelly Belly factory. We brought home 4 big bags of Jelly Belly Flops. I think they are each 5 pounds in weight....that created some cause for creative luggage packing allocations! My co-workers LOVED me for months!

I'm definitely in on the candy exchange - YUM! I immediately thought of See's and Jelly Belly's too for CA . Pre 9/11, I took the kids on a tour of the Hershey plant in Northern CA - the smells were heavenly . They don't do the tours anymore though .

I need to take a look at my FE from the 2007 TA. Pretty sure I can reuse it, but I better check.

The whole weight thing will definitely be a challenge for this trip. Need to put the thinking cap on Does anyone know if the port in Barcelona accepted box shipments last time? We were on the EB so it wasn't an issue for us. I do remember that UPS wanted some outrageous amount to ship things home though from Barcelona.

Well this is just a drive by - End of Qtr exams/projects, homecoming weekend, halloween activities, three kids in three schools, and the start of swim competition season are keeping us uber busy right now! Hopefully, it will calm down (HA!) in a week or so - or maybe a few months - or Sept 2010!!

I don't think that Toronto/Ontario/Canada, has a candy or chocolate that is distinctly us either. I would love to join the swap, but all our stuff came from the US or Britain at some point. Anything Maple sugar-ish is more Quebec then from around here, hmmmm

Hey Stephanie - the pictures of the girls are beautiful. They have really grown since the TA. Looks like you had the whole park to yourselves. That is always nice.

Kathy - thank you sooo much for helping me. I think you can see a picture of my Hoagie Pie now.

I love the candy exchange, but I don't know what on earth I would bring from Florida. I know they have those orange slice candies, but I don't have anything really good like all of you. I am still partial to M&M's, but after all the other candy excitement, M&M's seem very boring. Anybody have ideas, I am up for it, but like Hadley, I need to check my luggage. I am determined to bring less clothes - although I think we will need sweatshirts and some heavy things. I am not one for formal night. My idea of a good time is a big pizza on Deck 9 looking out over the water with a bunch of friends so I can eliminate that for the candy - no problem!! I will take ideas or if anybody has been to Florida and likes something, let me know.

I know you cant have candy but we have some great diabetic sweets over here. Do they do a nice range with you guys or does it tend to be a little bland? My Grandfather was diabetic and he loved the diabetic chocolates we got in a shop called Thorntons over here

Greg could eat the sugar free candies and he loves them, but I cant eat any candy. We do look in foreign places to try different candies for him.

Actually, I looked it up ones in one of my weird facinations. Kinder is a German brand. The name Kinder is also used in the UK, Netherlands, Belgium etc. but it actually is a Ferrero product! Ferrero decided to use the name Kinder for the German market and it began to travel. So in the end, Kindereggs are an Italian product. Who would've known, italians and chocolate of all things!?


Doing a chocolate swap? Well, take your pick folks! We've got something called Sinterklaas in the Netherlands, which we celebrate on december 5th (start off small about 3 weeks prior and have the big finishing on the 5th). One could compair it to Santa Claus. Actually; Santa Claus IS Sinterklaas. Anyhow, just like with christmas, Sinterklaas comes with his whole own set of candy, sweets, chocolate, biscuits, well...... anything one can eat! So, ofcourse I'll be bringing along Sinterklaas candy!

Chocolate mice, chocolate money, chocolate tools, chocolate Sinterklaas, chocolate Zwarte Piet (Sinterklaas' helpers) chocolate kruidnoten (a traditional dutch/sinterklaas biscuit), chocolate letters, you name it and we've got it! I wouldn't be too surprised if Belgium (who also celebrate Sinterklaas somewhat) would also have chocolate Sinterklaas and Zwarte Piet, so chocolate kruidnoten it is!

Just some of the stuff we eat around Sinterklaas. (it's been in the shop for about a month now )

Well I cant remember but I think Gibralter has a Thorntons there so Greg would be able to try the diabetic candy we have. Is it just candy you can't eat? We do some really nice potato chips over here and maize chips (Quavers are like cheesey maize chips kind of like cheetos but more cheddar taste)

That's so cool. When I worked at Disney I worked with a girl from Norway and I know they had some cool Cristmas traditions but this sounds fantastic!!! I definately am going to celebrate this this year lol

Gismo, don't think they are actually the same (the Kinder and Ferrero ones). In our part of the world, Kinder caters more to the kids (more milky taste, ofcourse the surprises in the eggs, childrens favorite figures on their chocolate) and Ferrero more to the adults (more cacao-taste, flavored tastes, darker colours of wrapping etc.)

Any excuse to celebrate with chocolate is a good tradition if you ask me! When december 5th hits this year I'll be at the World. So, as a good little girl should do, I'm already having my celebration a little early.

I personally love all of the different traditions. There's a lot of overlapping and differences all in one. Combine that with some good native food and it makes for one nice big party!

Yes, someone told me about the alligators and the chocolate covered coconut. I will look into both. Since we are all trying to go light on the luggage, and if we get tons of people to do FE, maybe we can split the decks or something like that - that way we can bring just as much, but more variety - ha ha I don't know if that would be more confusing.

I know Captain Jack won't recruit me to make any lists because of my internet skills, but if I can help the person out with e-mailing them lists of people or keeping something up to date, I would love to do that.

HoagiePie was basically on life support when we got her. She was starving and dehydrated and the vet recommended putting her down, but there was no way we were going to do that. Believe it or not, my Rotti still has trouble eatinng and if you drop ANYTHING on the floor, this is the only do I know that won't run to it. She likes people to sit down when she eats so if you are not at the dinner table by her bowl, she will not eat. We still have some eating issues, but we love her. It is so nice when you can rescue a dog and just love them all up.

it was so nice you took her in when she had so many obstacles to over come.

Our Minnie was in the same situation, plus she had been beaten and never had any kind of love. She was so wild when we got her. It took a long time and lots of work to get her to trust us and to conquer her fears.
She now is about 6 pounds overweight becuase she loves to eat.

Pixie wasnt starving but she was in a small cage with filth her entire life ,s o we had medical issues to overcome but now both are wonderful, healthy loving girls.

One man who lives here has 4 large beautiful dogs. all 4 he found dumped at rest areas or along side the road while he traveled around the country. He took proper measures to find the owners, but he figured they were dumped.
They are wonderful animals.
