Thank you everybody for your well wishes. I'm at work today, a little loopy from the pain meds but feeling ok. I'm eating my soft Kraft Mac and Cheese with my Jello Jigglers and yogurt for lunch! Gotta love the soft diet!!!! But at least it's out and hopefully the pain will soon be over and done with!

So glad you are doing better. You have been in our prayers! I cannot believe you are back to work. What a trooper you are! Thank you to all our veterans!!!

I was also wondering if Disney will be doing tours for the people that arrive early. Hadley - you are always in our thoughts and we want to hear all about Dave's interview and good luck to all the others that have been hunting for jobs. I LOVE TARGET! I don't remember who said they are working there, forgive me, but I love it and what a great place to start after having the #1 job there is - MOM! Good luck!

That was me! Thanks :) So, T Rex was good?

Thank you to all for the congrats.

Thank you to all the Veterans for your service.

I was reading on the DCL web site that Disney will have a hospitality desk at the hotels for the DCL people. I would guess that they would offer tours.

Hi everyone!
I'm Jen, and I'll be joining you on this cruise. There are five of us (so far), as Bear's Mates said already. We did the Westbound TA in August 07 and LOVED it so much we had to do it again. I think it was our favorite cruise so far. We're also booked for the final Med. September 2010 can't come soon enough!

Jen

Hi Jen
Looks like there'll be a lot of WB TA's and EB TA's on this one

Thats what I am looking at...London, Paris and then Barcelona. I am so caught up in planning my daughters wedding for Sept. '09 that I cant seem to get all my thoughts on Sept. '10 yet....no matter how hard I try!!

We thought about doing London, Paris, and then take train to Barcelona. Flights are actually cheaper and with train would be about the same.

But, we have never been to any of these places....I spoke with the mother of one of my DD classmates who lived in Barcelona for awhile.....she absolutely LOVED it! If she had not come to the States she said she would live there in a heartbeat. She convinced me that there is plenty to do and see there to keep busy for 3 days...if we had more time I would definitely expand and see more sights, but with only 3 days I would like to concentrate on one place...maybe next time we will have more time to do a land based European trip....when my DD is a bit older and can appreciate the history of it all.

Besides, the idea of lugging all that luggage all over the place :scared:

Forgot to post this before I started catching up on the thread. Me and Dan (welshwizurd) are back from our trip to Florida. We had a good time but were really jinxed lol. So far our list of things that went wrong/were bad luck are:
  1. 5 hour delay on way out
  2. Food poisoning at Islands of Adventure
  3. Bad incident at Buffalo Wild Wings at Crossroads where I ordered a beer, saw it sat on the bar for 10 minutes then my waitress proceeded to take a straw from a random glass on the bar and stir my beer in order to give it another head. I explained what I had seen and asked that I get a new beer and was told that it "still tastes the same" although she did pour me another beer!
  4. I had a serveer allergic reaction to my steroid inhaler bringing me up in a gross rash all over my body for 3 days
  5. Me spraining my ankle (I know how clumsy am I?)
  6. And finally a 2 hour delay on the plane coming home

Still we had some absolutley fantastic things go right too and so far our list is:
  1. Brilliant meal for Dan's birthday at the Yachtsman Steakhouse
  2. Great food at Margaritaville in City Walk (not where we got food poisoning)
  3. Went on Toy Story Mania twice and it was fantastic although Dan beat me both times
  4. Great meal in Marrakesh EPCOT
  5. Had Mickey Mouse buy me Churros in Animal Kingdom as the cast member couldn't log in to the system and didn't want me to wait too long to be able to pay for them
  6. Some lovely food in EPCOT at F&W such as Spanakopita in Greece & Chicken Bastilla (I think) in Marrakesh
  7. Great day at Seaworld including fantastic beer tasting and a beef stew in a bread bowl
  8. Great food at ESPN, Ragland Road, House of Blues & Tune-In Lounge (Common theme of bars here Im afraid)
  9. Good night at Jellyrolls
  10. Nice night at Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween (but it was freezing cold that night so couldn't stay past the fireworks and parade)
  11. Great night watching Joe Calzagy fight on our last night
  12. Saw an anteater at Animal Kingdom which I have never seen and all 3 cheetahs were out and about on the safari

Just wanted to share what we found in our pool today! :scared1:

Our backyard is like Dr. Doolittle! We are always finding the craziest things back there!!!

DSCF1275.jpg

Oh dear God I feel ill just looking at that!

Wow, that's one gutsy gal! (I always think of the movie "Fierce Creatures" when I see tarantulas. Funny movie:rotfl: ) I think it must be their hairy bodies because they're not really that dangerous to people. We had a doe and fawn in the back yesterday; that's my kind of wildlife...so beautiful.

I hope you folks who have done this westbound Atlantic trip before will share some tips and advice as we get closer to our cruise. DH and I are absolute novices when it comes to traveling abroad (I've had my passport for 4 years and don't have a single stamp in it :sad2: .) I can't believe we're really signed up (there should be a smilie for "miracle" somewhere ;) ).

I am in the process of trying to come up with some useful tips from the last WB at the mo as I can't remember most of it now as my brain is so bad. If you have any specific questions let me know though ok?

Hi all
Love to be in on the candy swap, I'll bring the Cadbury's Curlywurlies.

Oh brilliant choice! I love Curlywurlies!!!!

The one thing I did think about while I was away was peanut allergies. Does anyone have any? Just thinking that candy exchange wise I would assume we need to keep an eye on this.

 We should make our own DIS Euro-tour group.

:thumbsup2 Now that is a great idea.....get back with me in a year...hopefully after the wedding I can start planning better!!

I am with you on that!! we are also planning our daughter's wedding but she isn't until Dec. '09 I am sure after the weddings than we will really be into getting ready for Sept. '10

I sure hope so....planning a wedding is hard enough, but adding this cruise on top of it is no fun!!! :rotfl:

Gismo1554 - glad you are back, but the beer story at the Wings place is as gross as the Spider - I think I would take the spider in the pool over that. You poor thing - glad you liked Toy Story Mania - one of my faves!

jewelmickey - sounds like you had a great conversation about Barcelona - find out any good restaurants or wine bars?

T Rex was excellent and worth it! We had a blast, but our waitress was the best - she tested Abby's knowledge on dinos, played around with us and gave us tons of knowledge on the restaurant. Her name was Karen - so request if you go!

Clever ship the magic.

Distance from Barcelona to Gibraltar 1,143 miles.

Maximum speed 24 MPH or thereabouts.

Cruising time between leaving Barcelona and arriving Gibraltar 36 hours. Now I know they have done this before but I reckon even at maximum speed thats 300 miles unaccounted for

Interesting. Now my question is are nautical miles the same as actual miles? Just thinking this might account for the difference?

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 My opinion is that your friend has not steered you wrong! While I am not a big city girl, so could never live there, Barcelona is a FANTASTIC place to visit. We satyed three nights after our last TA (plus the nigth we had in BArcelona on the ship) and would have liked a couple more to enjoy everything. There are plenty of really fun and interesting things to do there with kids too:)

Sarah, welcome back:goodvibes I am glad to see you had more good than bad expereinces and are the types to enjoy the good and take the bad in stride and come home smiling:upsidedow You are my kind of travelers.

Good Afternoon everybody - I did a dumb thing last night and did not close our windows before going to bed. Woke up this morning and our bedroom was 54 degrees!!!!!! I didn't want to move. It is REALLY cold in Florida so for all those coming to visit - bundle up!!!! It is suppose to be Florida "normal" by the weekend.

lol don't I know it! We did Mickey's Halloween this night and it was so cold my feet were blue (only took flip flops away with me).

We flew Aer Lingus for the WBTA 2007. We also flew out of NY. I thought they were great. Awesome price. We are flying with them again for the WBTA 2010. Each seat has it's own TV. You could watch tons of movies, TV programs. They also have video games for the kids, with their own controllers.
They also served dinner to everyone--at no cost. We had a full chicken dinner--rolls & everything.
I highly recommend them!

Jenn

Most European Airlines on Transatlantics include one cooked meal and one cold meal.

Good to hear. We were looking at flights out of Newark, but the one-way on Continental (whom I hate) was close to $1700 (while the r/t was around $600, go figure) and SAS was reasonable as well. But we were thinking of flying out of JFK instead on Aer Lingus, hoping for a Thursday, 9/16 red eye. We can have a DIS meet on the plane!

By the way Continetal code share with Virgin Atlantic out of Newark so there's a chance its actually a Virgin flight you are looking at

We are considering this cruise. I am very confused on how the airfare works. Can someone give me some hints? If round trip is cheaper can you just book round trip and not use the return portion? We have never traveled to Europe before so this is all new to us...

Plus will there be enough activities to keep you busy for 6 days at sea? We have never taken a Disney cruise before..

OK I should say that I am the most fidgety person I know! I can very rarely sit still and sunbathe but on the cruise I found there was far too much to do during the days at sea! It was fantastic! There was loads to do.

You can in theory book round trip for the Europe one as itll be your outward journey you use.

Thanks for the warm welcome. We haven't booked yet. We are struggling between the East and West repos. DH and I want the west because it will be our 10 year anniversary and we have never been to Europe or any of the Caribbean ports. We are struggling that the East would be better for our boys because it will be over spring break and late in the school year vs just beginning the school year. I think we will opt'd for West though. I like the idea of warmer weather, gaining hours and long flight over with first.

Welcome aboard. Just to say I'm not sure if the weather will be any warmer on the WB to EB but the gaining the hours is good.

So I think I have DH convinced on going on this cruise. It will be DH, me, our 2 boys and my mother. We are more than likely getting 1 category 6 room and 1 category 12..or something like that. We are trying to find a way to get airfare for under 700-600pp. Any suggestions?

This will be our first cruise as a family (DH and I went on a short 4 day RCCL a long time ago) and first time in Europe. I am beginning to wonder if we are crazy for doing this. I am super excited about doing a Disney cruise. Our boys will be 9 and almost 7 at the time of the cruise.

I do have a few weird questions. How good is the internet connection out at sea? We are hoping to email homework every couple days. How many children will be on board? Will my children have other children to play with?

This is an odd question but I need to ask. I am diet coke addict. Will there be problems getting diet coke on the cruise? I am concerned because I read some reviews where they ran out of some items (Mickey bars) on the last transatlantic. Diet coke is my coffee and I don't know what I would do 14 days without it. Plus I am concerned it would be replaced with a European version of it.. (Nothing against European coke just not sure if it taste's like ours)

Any information would be helpful. I am very excited about going yet a little nervous.

Well its my boyfriends first cruise too so I know your anxiety!

The internet connection on the WB was alright but not brilliant according to my sister who used it daily.

No problem getting diet coke. The Mickey Bars ran out because of the fact that they couldn't import them. Diet coke is available throughout Europe and does taste the same I assure you
