Any suggestions for a 3 year old? I was thinking he and I might start moving one of the clocks in the house the last week up for an hour each day until we leave. I don't think any of us could handle a 3 year old who likes to follow a plan.....more or less :scared1: God help us all if hes CRABBY.

I should take a moment to point out that MY child is an ANGEL. :rotfl:
Cynthia

I'll have a 3 yr old along as well! Should be fun! Our flight leaves Philly at 6:30pm, lands in BCN at 8:30ish, then we're picking up a tour once we're cleared through customs. I'm optimistically thinking about feeding them around 5 in the Philly airport, so when we get on the plane we can skip dinner and try to get to sleep. We usually start heading them toward bed at 7, so it's not that far off by the time we're able to start moving around on the plane. Any good choices for a kid sized travel mask and ear plugs?

Very interesting! I didn't think discounts applied to gift cards (though I see now from a later post that you did buy something else.) I don't imagine these purchases count as zero financing items.
.....When you say a card that gives you points, are you referring to any cash back or point earning card? I have cards that give you 1-5% back in cash, and others that give you points or dollars that can be reimbursed for cash.....

Sorry that I haven't been clear!

For starters, you're not really getting a "discount" in the true definition of the word. With Ebates or MrRebates, you're getting a "rebate" for your purchase that is paid to you by those websites. So you pay for the full amount upfront, then get it back in a return.

As far as the gift cards being an exclusion to the rebates sites, MrRebates clearly states that GCs are excluded for a rebate consideration. When I made my purchase that included the gift card, I paid $330-ish dollars with one "swipe of the card". It was even one line item on my credit card statement. Of that total, $300 of it was the GC. Despite the fact I had one charge, on my MrRebates account, I see that the apparel is a line item for a rebate, and the GC is a line item for the rebate. That is odd to me, but it is broken out as a line items. So I either got lucky, or their policy changed since I made the purchase in June. Now.....EBATES.com does not state GCs are excluded in their rebate policy with DisneyStore.com, so there appears to be no risk in not getting the rebate from EBATES. Furthermore, as of today, EBATES has a higher return than MrRebates in the first place. I'm holding out just a bit longer in hopes that EBATES will go back above 5% as it was earlier this month. I've been checking every day!

Let's talk cards. Personally, I paid for my GC at DisneyStore.com with use of a card (not Disney Visa) that gives me a percentage back in cash for any purchase I make anywhere for anything with 0% interest. The first of every month they give me cash for my purchases. I referenced points because some people may use a card that gives them points, but in my case, I used a card that gives me cash back on the original purchase price. That has no relevance to the rebate sites though. So for me, I got more cash back from my credit card company in addition to the rebate site. I can't answer if Disney GCs purchased with a Disney Visa can be 6 months interest-free or not. :confused3

Finally, once I got the gift card, I called DCL and had them apply the GC value to my OBC. I could have held onto the GC until I got on-board, but I feared loosing it, so I mitigated that risk by applying the GC now instead of later. The only thing the DCL CM told me was to keep the GC because if I didn't use all of the funds, the OBC I didn't use from the GC would be reapplied to the GC after the cruise. Yea right! Does he really think I won't be using all of it on Shutters alone???? :lmao:

Still clear as mud???

BTW, Cynthia, I am planning on moving my clocks the week leading up to departure to have less of a challenge getting over jet-lag. That's for ME! :rotfl: I have to meet the mark of your 3 year old angel's happy attitude after all! It's going to be tough because I'm a night owl (look...it's 1:45 am now)! My goal is to wake up fully refreshed no later than 3:30 am the day of departure so I'll be tired and ready to sleep on the plane after eating dinner. We'll have to see how those plans work out! :rotfl2:

you have me down twice (tweety0227)

sorry about that - I will fix that!

Don't count on it! I love Rosa Regale but you can't really get it anywhere in the UK at least. Occassionally it appears in Costco but then you need a card to purchase from there!

I can find it pretty easy here in TN -- I can get it at the liquor store beside Costco - our costco's can only sell beer and wine coolers so they have a liquor store next to them but anyone can come in - no costco card needed.

;)

Do you mind me asking what time you get in?

We get in at 9:05 am - so far the latest of anyone in the group.

Got one more thing out of the way.

I called the credit card companies to place travel notifications on the accounts.

Woody

I need to do that too - I never did it on the EBTA and they never flagged us - we got lucky - but now when I tried to book a plane ticket for DH from KWI to Memphis - they flagged it!

I really would love to try Rosa Regale. A friend of mine is absolute crazy about this. Is this relatively easy to get in USA? I really do not want to pay Disney prices. By the way is Banfi Bracheto D'Acqui not the same as Rosa Regale? If it is, then it is on the premium wine list.

Thanks for pointing that out!!! I did not notice that- I never call it by that so it did not click. But still $65 a bottle is too much for me - will either take some from here or look in europe - it is an european wine - somebody has to have it over there!

Hi Tom. We are on the same flight out of NY as you (there are 4 of us). I read somewhere earlier on that on the last WBTA in 2007, those that arrived early in the morning, were treated to an hour tour of Barcelona by DCL since they didn't want people to arrive at the port too early. I've tried to find out if this will happen for our flight but I have not been able to get an answer. We're hoping that will be the case.

We are still trying to determine whether we will just go to the port or if we will book tickets on one of the Hop on/Hop off buses. My understanding is once we are at the port, we can take a bus from the port to/near the Christopher Columbus statue where the HOHO buses are located. In my limited research, it appears we have to book the tickets on line only. Have not been able to verify whether or not HOHO tickets can be purchased in person. Even though we aren't going to get a "good nights sleep" we want to see some of the City.....and we think (but we aren't sure) if we "keep going" by doing the tour we might be better off than just sitting at the port. Then again, we'll be anxious to get on the ship. Decisions Decisions !!! and we're at the point where they have to be made--very exciting!:yay:

Linda

When we were goiong to do the HOHO bus they will take cash at any stop - if you prepay on the internet you have to first go to a specific place and exchange your reservation for tickets. Cash seemed easier to me for this.

I am thinking dramamine :) At least that is what I give my cranky kid on these flights (mind you he is 13 = but he will stay up the whole time if I do not and he sometimes gets queazy so it is a win win for me :)

Amazon had some cute kid masks - ear plugs I would check at target

Hello fellow cruisers....we are flying in the day of the cruise....we will be arriving at 8:00 a.m. and taking Disney transportation....is it similar to Orlando where you go in a large bus or is it a van or do they put you in a taxi....we would love to see a little of Barcelona if we could.....
Thanks all....
Tom:cool1:

Yes its on a large bus. According to this years people they don't seem to be doing the tours that they did in 2007 but you do see a bit of the city on the way!

Is it the same as far as boarding like in Orlando....do they keep you out of the stateroom until 1:30? We kind of figure that if we get on the ship early maybe we can get a quick nap.....we are flying out of JFK at 5:40 p.m. on Friday.....flying through the night and arriving at 8 in the morning as I stated...so even if we sleep on the plane it really will not be good sleep....
Tom

YEp they still keep them till about 2 I think it was. They have to clean them between the one lot getting on and the other lot getting off.

On one cruise.....I think it was the first TA I was on, I have FE's to everyone on the list.....and I am sure it was over 125. I just sorted them by deck and room number and delivered a few a time....

Yes, it was a GREAT way to get to know the ship AND I enjoyed seeing all the creative magnets people had decorated their doors with.

I think you're right! The TA definately had over 100!

Do we have to take our luggage off the bus? Or does it get taken off and magically appear in our stateroom?

So, you think with an 8:00 arrival at the airport, we'll arrive at port at 11ish? I've been trying to figure that out !

We had to grab them and move them from the bus drop off to the port security officials but then it disappeared and arrived magically.

Took about 2 hours to get to the port when we did the WBTA last time but we had a tour of the city

If you can, get them in to a different sleep pattern early! Also try and make them sleep on the flight by wearing them out before you get onboard. It helps if they can at least get used to sleeping at a different time as this will stop them getting too tired and grouchy

Yeah our Costco's are odd. They are mainly for trade people to bulk buy but they do some strange things like wine occassionally and DVD's. Its very odd if you ask me!

OK people I need some dates for the Navigator as we are getting close to August.

Champagne Girls -> Has a date been decided for a meeting?? Or is this being combined with the ladies afternoon tea??

Yoga -> Is this going to be daily?? When/at what time are we thinking??

Jewellery Making Class -> Corinna, any ideas on times/dates etc?

In August I want to release a fairly complete Navigator with only minor room changes then occuring between the two so if people can let me know that would be great

Only managing to skim through the pages, :surfweb: you lot are moving along quickly. Tricia and I are off to the Lake District for the weekend tomorrow for Tricias birthday, looking forward to the break from the usual routine. :woohoo: hoping for some good weather after the last week of wet, cool days but we will take whatever.
We are staying at the http://www.derwentlodgehotel.co.uk, we stayed here last year and really enjoyed it. Forgot it is the start of the main holiday period so expect it will be busy.
Will try posting some pics as we will take the netbook to try and keep up with you all. This cruise is really coming up quickly now and we will have to start doing some planning or we will be the ones wandering around looking lost :scared1:.

Oh, enjoy the weekend. I love the Lakes, but it is ages since we have been, and we only live a few hours away!! Friends are coming back today after a week there and had great weather.

I would print ours out too if the printer was working :rolleyes1 I like the second idea mush more...have been looking at Becky's favourite shops so I can check what to bring her back! :surfweb: (how's that for a dedicated mother!)

I would like shopping for my daughter too!!!

I did the online shopping last week. Got the delivery today!!! :dance3: One last dressy dress, 2 pair of knee length shorts and 2 tops. I am set! I think I need to buy a new white dress shirt for Dennis.

Well done. I pick up all my online sale things tomorrow from the store!!!:cool1:

Riiight!

Btw. I ordered THE dress. So excited.

Acutally I am a little superstitious. So, this is pretty early for me getting into the preparation mode. But you guys are so fun to read with planning and stuff.
So I ordered my dress. *woohoo* But delivery takes 4 (!!) weeks.

:yay::yay:

I got my fascinator for Villains night today was well as another hair slide for this night. I am really pleased with my finds.

You guys have started something. When I still worked in a boarding school, I would teach jewellery making and loved it. So now that I have found travel sized tools, if there is interest, I would be willing to do a jewellery making work shop. I was thinking in terms of three different projects that will teach all the basic techniques that one needs for making jewellery. We could do an illusion-style necklace, which will show you how to put loops into Beadalon (nylon-coated wire), attach a clasp or another type of closure and use crimps to keep beads in place. This could be either done in the colours of the ship (red, yellow, white and black) or in "Villains" colours (black and purple). This would be done with Swarovski crystals in various sizes and shapes. The second project would be a cellphone charm, which requires making a loop out of wire. The last project would be either a key chain or a bag charm, which requires working with a jump ring. Once all those basic techniques have been managed, you can pretty much make any jewellery you want. I think I could take up to 10 people and we would be looking at a cost of USD15 to 20 per person for the materials. When I tought this at school, my youngest students were 7 years old, but I thing this would be OK for anybody aged 6 years or older. The younger children might need a bit of help.

I got the missing components for the earrings today. This worked out really well. I made up the earrings tonight. Here are some photos of the whole set.

I also got my first tiara today. This is the blue one and it is absolutely stunning. It actually came from Hong Kong even though it said that the seller was in Australia, but I am very pleased with it. It came in a tiny box, but it was very easy to reshape it. This is definitely nice enough to be worn for my vow renewal next year. I will wait until the Champagne Girl tiara arrives and then I will get a tiara box from one of my jewellery suppliers to keep them safe in transit.

Corinna

Really looking forward to seeing you in all your finery!!!:thumbsup2

Corinna if you do teach a jewellry class I'd love to attend please! :cool1:

Me too!!!

Hi

Can someone let me know what time you are able to get on the ship from on the 18 Sept

Thanks

David

Hi and welcome.

Tom, to reduce the effects of jet lag, you might want to skip the nap.

Woody

It is always best if you can get into the time zone you are in as quickly as possible. Travelling East, you will be awake in the night for a few nights, so get as tired as possible. Keep busy and don't give in to that sleepiness.

I've never traveled overseas. For the longest time I kept thinking "oh, we'll be fine, we arrive at 7:55 a.m. so we'll sleep "all night" on the plane. Then it was like a smack in the head...."oh, 'sleep all night' means "getting up" around 2:00 a.m. ! YIKES. I've done a little research on jet lag (i like answers!) and I have read the best thing to do is STAY UP and try to stay outside in natural light to help adjust so that's what we are going to try to do. Have a feeling it might be an early night!

Linda

When we fly to Florida, we have not sleeped in the plaine. But we always go to do something and that going just fine. Don't do a nap. If you're busy you don't feel you have skiped the night.

We get the jetlag when we go back, but then you're at home and you don't have to go and do things. And then the lazy me is coming out.

Connie

Thats me exercise for the day ...plus no elevators except on Formal and Pirate night ...plus Sea Days 4 to 5 miles on deck 4 before breakfast :banana:

pirate:

We usually manage 1 and 1/2 laps of Deck 4!!! It gets so boring!!:rolleyes1 However we do walk up and down the stairs almost all the time.:littleangel:

Sounds like a plan ... we always use the stairs and plan to do a few laps on Deck 4 pre-breakfast on Sea Days.

Gosh .. this would give me nightmares :scared1::scared1:

This is for those of you who can use Picaboo (I'm not sure which if any countries are excluded).

In 2008, as a Christmas gift for my mom and grandmother, I created a photo book of our three-generation DCL cruise. I have been planning to make one for this cruise, too, because it's a terrific way to summarize your memories to share with others or to look at from time-to-time!

LOve your cruise photo book. These things are a really good memento :thumbsup2

Bloody Mary's all around.....may just have to order one tonight in honor of Captain Jack Sparrow

ewwwwwww bloody marys ... as a tomato-phobic this is one of my worst nightmares :sick:

The necklace and earring set I purchased on ebay arrived today! It's stunning and better quality than I was expecting! Can you believe it was just $14 + $5 S&H?!!

Now which dress to wear it with. :confused3 Hmmmm....

This is gorgeous jewellery. And what a bargain! Don't you just love Ebay :thumbsup2

Off for a bit to get beautiful for tonight's DIS meet. I hope I won't come back to 10 pages....

Hope you all had a wonderful time .... don't forget it's traditional to post meet photos !!!!

Love the fascinator ... was that from Ebay? Your jewellery is beautiful. I love the colours. Please add me to the jewellery class list ( I have sent a PM ). I will really look forward to it.

I don't know if any of you know Brandie Tucker-Raleigh (scarlett873) or not, but thought I would pass along this news. She's a pretty active participant on the Podcast threads and even went on the DIS Unplugged Cruise last December.

Brandie and I are friends on Facebook, and I noticed this morning that she posted "He's gone." Her husband of almost 8 years, Matthew, passed away unexpectedly during the night. I would say he was in his mid 30's. I don't know what happened, but it's just so tragic. She's been posting on FB a lot today, and they all just break your heart. Just minutes ago she posted "It looks as if he's still online...and it breaks my heart all over again to see it there, but I don't want it to go away...". :sad1:

Love and live like there's no tomorrow my friends! :grouphug:

So sorry to hear about your friend Kimberly. There is such sadness going on all around us and it is such a shame. Sending :hug::hug:

well as you know it is Saturday, which means ....

WE HAVE ONLY 8 WEEKS UNTIL WE BOARD THE DISNEY MAGIC !!!!

:dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3:

:yay::yay::yay::yay::yay:

Those of us on the Disbus should be almost at the port now - if nobody has slept in that is!!!!

Disbus people, please don't sleep in!!!!;)
